While we were out collecting materials for a wand and staff carving day we ran for #LeeValley at the weekend I came across a beautiful piece of twisted hazel that I knew would make a great wand. Here is the finished result after a few hours of hand carving, detailing, scorching and staining. Not a lathe in sight! Another busy weekend for Team Black Wolf. Sean and I ran a busy party for Zack and his friends on Saturday morning before doing a few odd jobs around Basecamp including making some new Ash mallets and then travelling up to the Almost Wild at Lee Valley where we ran a fully booked wand and staff carving day. Good times had by all and we didn’t let the rain spoil anything 🙂 Busy week again and then it’s our £10 24 hour Survival challenge next weekend. Still time to participate if anyone fancies a challenge.....

Two separate Bushcraft skills days with the option of doing either or both days and even camping over on the Saturday night. Teaching fire skills ranging from modern to primitive and a day of tool skills, making useful tools and carving. A little improvised Bushcraft from the Black Wolf team during our recent Sweden trip. This little candle, believe it or not, is made from a piece of Jute twine soaked in a little cooking oil contained within a ball of wax made from the shell of a Baby Bell mini cheese. When the whole mix was out into a bark container it burned for a couple of hours.

No rest for the Black Wolf..... After returning from Sweden late Thursday night I just about had time to wash and sort my kit and then get all prepped and ready to run a really good fun “lads and Dads” weekend for some great customers who’ve been to us previously for birthday parties but wanted to do an overnight camp and expand on some of the skills they learned at parties. So, with the assistance of Wurz we’ve had a weekend of shelter building, fire lighting and building challenges, knife & tool skills, archery, axe throwing, knife throwing and crossbows. Great fun and great company 🙂

Just a few photos from what’s been a brilliant week out in Sweden running the first of our two Canoe, Wild camping and Bushcraft trips here this year. A wonderful group of clients who’ve faced weather ranging from beautiful sun and millpond lake through to heavy rain, 30 metres a second wind and 3 foot waves on the lake to paddle a long way and enjoy some amazing wild camping spots. It’s been an absolute pleasure to lead them for a week and I know we’ll see them again closer to home as well 😉 we have seen some amazing wildlife including Ospreys fishing, red squirrels, Buzzards and seen evidence of moose, deer, beaver and even heard wolves in the far far distance. We head home this afternoon and then are back out here in about 3 weeks with another group 🙂

We are just back from an amazing week-long adventure in Sweden with Sean and Craig. Myself and my partner, along with her 9-year old daughter, had the pleasure of learning from the guys on a one-to-one basis.



We learned how to canoe, camp, cook and forage in the wild, along with learning many bushcraft skills such as primitive fire making techniques, spoon carving, trapping and tree and plant identification.



During the day we travelled by canoe, set up our campsites, swam in the lake and prepared food. In the evenings we relaxed by the fire and swapped stories.



I would highly recommend these guys to anyone (families included) who want to experience the beauty of wild Sweden, while learning from highly experienced people, and I personally cannot wait to get back out with two people whom I would now consider our friends.

Watched Craig do a bushcraft lesson with kids at Badgell Woods. Was amazed at finally being able to see what a 9v battery and wire wool does. Since being told by a teacher years ago. Brilliant lesson, Brilliant Bloke.

The long weekend in the Norwegian forest was a great weekend. Craig with his bow drill skills was put to the test in the snowy minus climates with a very limited selection of wood. It was great to have guys with their enthusiasm level for sleeping out in minus temperatures. Craigs chorizo bread has also got to be expierenced! Wouldn't think twice about going out in the deep forests in the middle of winter with these guys, their experience level is fantastic. The only downfall was after seeing their gear, it's cost me a fortune in gear envy upgrades.

Craig and Sean ran a team away day for us (School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Kent). We asked for something to help develop our communication and team working skills and they more than delivered. I've been on plenty of away days, but this is by far the best and will give us memories for years to come. Everyone left smiling and exhausted. Thanks guys!

Black Wolf Survival were booked for my daughter's 7th Birthday. It was such a wonderful event. Very professional, great value, amazing activities, brilliant facts and humour... I could go on! Wonderful, lovely guys. Poppy and her friends loved it. Thank you so much!

Black Wolf Survival is excellent! I had a fantastic time today with my partner and Mum on the friction firelighting course. It was great value for money. Craig was extremely helpful and informative and made the course great fun. The setting was beautiful and peaceful and we had all the equipment and facilities we needed. There were 4 of us on the course which was a good number as we all got the help we needed. It was also very friendly. We learnt to use a bow drill set and we all managed to make fire which I had never done before. We then went for a walk in the woods to find more wood and create our own bow drill sets from scratch. This was a fun aspect and I didn't expect to do that but it was great fun. We used an axe and fro which I hadn't done before either. I learnt lots of new skills. Thank you Craig for a great day :)

Absolutely fantastic. From the original booking with Craig to the actual party everything was brilliant.

We booked a party of our 10 year old boy and he thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, as did all his friends.

Nothing was too much trouble, they built dens, made fires and enjoyed the sausages that had been cooked on the fire. I would recommend Black Wolf Survival to anybody.
