‘We collaborated with a whole bunch of Australian artists while making I Like Frank. We used postcards where players on the street would go to a pub, ask at the bar and be given a postcard. You would then post it and those postcards would come to us. We would then address them out to other people who had played the game so there was this mail art element to the piece.’
I Like Frank came out of our Thinkers in Residence post in Australia, 2004.
Read on as we reflect on the fo...urth project developed with The Mixed Reality Lab.

Robert Walton, our pvi collective resident from earlier this year has been shortlisted for a Creative State Commission and awarded $20,000 by @Creative_Vic for his augmented reality piece. ‘Child of Now’ imagines Victoria’s future in an ‘invested, emotional and human way.’
Congratulations Robert!

Uncle Roy All Around You (2003) was the first time we put members of the audience out on the street and online. At the end you’re asked ‘would you be willing to make a contract with a stranger, that you’ll be there for them if they need support over the next 12 months?’
Artist Matt explains, “It was a social experiment, we wondered if people would do it and we wondered what would happen.”
Read on as we look back at the third project with The Mixed Reality Lab, celebrating 20 years collaborating together. #BlastTheoryMRL20 #mixedrealitylab

Remember when we kidnapped two people, took them to a secret location and streamed them live online for 48 hours?
As a rare treat, the three artists Matt, Ju and Nick, will be joined by the two kidnappees: Russel Ward and Debora Burgess (from Melbourne via video link) as well as writers, thinkers and artists at Kidnap@20, a one-day symposium where we revisit 1998’s Kidnap.
Join us at this very special event.

Watch a video of Robert Walton, recipient of pvi collective and Blast Theory’s international residency programme 2018, talking about the participatory artwork ‘The Child of Now’ he’s developing with Arts Centre Melbourne for City of Melbourne.
To conclude his residency Robert hosted a moving talk and workshop. Now back on Australian soil, we wish Robert all the best with the piece.
