About Brooklands Museum

Brooklands Museum. The birthplace of British motorsport and aviation and home of concorde. Brooklands Museum is a real family adventure.

Brooklands Museum Description

Brooklands Museum is the birthplace of British Motorsport and aviation.

The Museum is home to the Members’ Banking, the steepest part of the Brooklands race track, and has a wide collection of cars, motorcycles and bicycles, particularly from the heyday of the track until it closed in 1939.

Its Grand Prix Exhibition has a Formula 1 simulator that lets you drive Brooklands in the record-breaking Napier Railton and more modern Grand Prix cars.

Brooklands was also one of the most prolific aircraft production sites in Europe. The Museum’s collection of Brooklands aircraft spanning the last hundred years ranges from a replica of the aeroplane in which A. V. Roe carried out pioneering flight trials here in 1908 to Concorde G-BBDG. There’s a half hour Concorde Experience for a small extra charge, and the original simulator that was used to train UK Concorde pilots.

The original Clubhouse is available for conferences, functions and weddings - you can even get married on board Concorde. Motoring and aviation events are held through the year – full details are on the Museum website at www. brooklandsmuseum.com.

The Museum is open every day except at Christmas. As a registered, independent charity with no government funding, it charges for admission.

Early this week we helped Woking Borough Council to remove the final Hawker Hunter T.7 to be built from its post in Woking Town Centre.
The joint recovery operation by contractors and Brooklands Museum volunteers started last Sunday. The aircraft has been gifted to The Hawker Association for preservation and has now been transported to Dunsfold for storage. As well as helping to rescue the aircraft the Museum will be working with The Hawker Association on the conservation of it, bringing components up to the Museum for restoration in our new purpose-built aviation heritage skills training centre.

We (hubby, retired parents & myself)went to the museum yesterday as a belated Christmas pressie for my dad. The museum, Concorde experience, 3D cinema, planes , buses, motorcycles were all brilliant. The layout of the grounds means that you find a new treasure round every corner. It’s easily accessible for disabled visitors (obviously steps to Concorde but all hangars etc are accessible) We went while they were allowing Velocette motorbikes and Morgan cars to use Test Hill which was very exciting.

Only downside was because it was so cold, nobody wanted to sit outside and the cafe was rammed full. There were very few tables for two so a lot of the tables were under occupied by 2on a table for 4or 6.

This probably isn’t an issue in Warmer weather as there are plenty of outside seating.

I would definitely recommend the museum for all ages, a thoroughly good value, fun filled, interesting and educational day out for the whole family. We’re even considering buying the very reasonably priced membership as plan to go again to a few of the many events they hold during the year 😊

Took a group of year 11 student to experience this facility. One of the key moments was to see The Silver Arrows display. Unfortunately, the display is only at weekends and bank holidays. All in all, a good couple of hours out of work. Would highly recommend for a day out and it's FREE, but you just might need a Platinum Card for the cost of some of the activities & merchandise

This is a great place for young and old, cars, busses, aeroplanes and of course the Stratosphere chamber, credit to Barnes Wallace plus many interactive things to do.

User

The staff and volunteers at Brooklands make this place what it is. I hope their sheer enthusiasm, knowledge and passion is passed on to the next generation of volunteers so visitors here can enjoy the unique experience the Museum has to offer for many, many years to come.

User

The history surrounding this place will amaze you. For one thing Vickers used to build its aircraft here including the Wellington Bomber and VC10. Brooklands was the worlds first purpose built racing circuit and it is the site of the first British Grand Prix. There is a vast number of exhibits to see ranging from F1 racing cars to vintage cars and motorcycles; the bus museum is really interesting and covers from horse drawn buses to Routemasters; there is a vast range of civil and military aircraft to see including Concorde 003, Harrier G-VTOL and far far more. Brooklands Museum represents a great day out for all the family. This was my 2nd time and I could happily go again in due course.

User

Our first visit to Brooklands yesterday and although a cold day we all had a great time.

There was fourteen of us and we were made so welcome by your staff and volunteers who wanted to share their knowledge with visitors to their museum.

We stopped for lunch and as we were a large group a room was made available for us to eat. There wasn’t anything that was too much trouble for the Sunbeam Cafe. Food was very good and very reasonable priced for families.

After lunch we visited the Concorde experience our guide presented a very informative talk on Concorde and the role that Brooklands was involved.

A great visit and will not be our last thank you for a great Day Brooklands Johannah Tumber

Never been to Brooklands Musuem before. Had a great day lots to see and do . My daughter has a mini so great to see so many minis at once . We all had a great time .

User

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the staff at Brooklands Museum that made today a fantastic day out for my two children. From the 3 women in the cafe that helped me get a very hungry two year old fed as quickly as possible, the man in the bus shop who found a screw driver to remove the stand for the toy bus, the man in the planes exhibition who patiently explained to my daughter what she had to do with her card and the man on reception who gave us all the relevant bus information to get back to Weybridge train station (children were far too tired to walk any further). Thank you, a great first experience at Brooklands.

User

Just an amazing place - never been anywhere like it. The volunteers enthusiasm is infectious and engaging - clear that everyone loves what they do! The Aircraft Factory is genius - fascinating for young children and adults alike. We were there for my father to do a Concorde Experience and that was brilliant too! We will be back.

User

I've been here a few times and have always had a most enjoyable time. The new building housing the aircraft is excellent.

There is a lot of history here and it's very well presented showing all aspects of aviation and the motor racing which took place in the early 20th century.

I came along yesterday as there was a motoring event on which made it even more interesting.

I've always found the staff & volunteers helpful & friendly and if you have an interest in motor racing/aviation plus there is also a large bus museum on-site which is included in the entrance fee I would highly recommend a visit.

Had a fantastic day out yesterday for our sons 6th birthday, he had been here on a school trip in March and had said he wanted to come back. We booked the Concorde experience too which was great, even our three year old enjoyed it. Cannot speak highly enough of all the volunteers, they are all so friendly and willing to answer many questions!!! Highlights were being able to sit in the cockpit of some of the planes, enjoyed by the grown ups too. So much to see and do, we will be back!

User

Had a fabulous day out at Brooklands Museum recently. The facilities, displays exhibitions were all brilliant. The staff & volunteers couldn't be more helpful, they were informative, friendly and even made us feel as though we were home from home after meeting one volunteer in particular (John) who regularly visits the IOM to marshall at the TT & MGP races. Didn't quite have enough time to see everything so looking forward to visiting again next time we're in the area.

User

Excellent day - great value for money, and the effort made with the children is fantastic. I think the volunteers here are just great - they are there in their own time and the knowledge and effort they make was really lovely. Good facilities, well kept and the cars etc looked really good. will come back again 5*

So much to see and really hands on for the kids and adults! Paid a little extra to go on Concorde and was really worth it, was great to see the history etc behind it all. Really really great day out!

Attended the New Years Day Classic Gathering which is a great way to start off the New Year. Went into the new buildings which were very interesting and lots of interaction items for the kids. Excellent day. Never been before. Was looking for somewhere to take the husband for his 60th birthday. A friend suggested Brooklands and I'm glad they Did, he was in his element with all these old cars, planes, and bikes. We even went on Concorde, we were A bit put out as we paid 5 pounds each and some people join the chat half way through and went on plane without paying. I think the guide should ask to see your boarding pass when you go on board. Apart from this we had a brilliant but exhausting day.

User

Emergency services day was great fun for my son, the weather certainly helped but The museum is a great place to visit any way

User

Brilliant Day wish we had got there earlier as didn't get a chance to look around everywhere,

Only down side was the extras for the Concorde the 4D theatre that we didn't realise you had to book and pay for and also the routemaster bus ride was a £1 a ride till the conductor came asking for fares most of the other passengers thought it was free, fortunately had change to pay, but a sign saying would have been helpful or told at admissions when paying,

Will definitely go again in the near future

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the staff at Brooklands Museum that made today a fantastic day out for my two children. From the 3 women in the cafe that helped me get a very hungry two year old fed as quickly as possible, the man in the bus shop who found a screw driver to remove the stand for the toy bus, the man in the planes exhibition who patiently explained to my daughter what she had to do with her card and the man on reception who gave us all the relevant bus information to get back to Weybridge train station (children were far too tired to walk any further). Thank you, a great first experience at Brooklands.

Rounded of the trip with a visit into the Bus Museum which I also enjoy. So much to see and need a full day there with everything that is going on.

User

An enjoyable day at there. Great collection with good presentation. Staff are nice with enthusiasm. There is any things to see: buses, aircraft, classic cars ...... One day may not enough to see them all! And must join the "Concorde Experience".

User

Absolutely amazing place to visit. Worth every penny. Not enough time in the day to take it all in so gonna visit again.
