About Bunkers Hill Garden Shop

We are a small family run plant nursery situated 8 miles north of Oxford and just 2 miles from Blenheim Palace near Woodstock. We have a large selection of plants, shrubs and trees to choose from as well as offering sound, friendly advice.

Bunkers Hill Garden Shop Description

All our staff have a wide range of horticultural knowledge and are always pleased to offer any help or advice our customers may require. As an old-fashioned nursery we strive to preserve the traditional values, i. e. sound and friendly advice along with a huge selection of top quality plants. Our prices are generally 30% less expensive than national garden centres and we don't believe in silly '99p' to create the impression of a bargain, so where you may pay ┬Ż2. 99 elsewhere you will probably find ours is ┬Ż2. We have been established for 20 years and specialise in growing a diverse range of garden plants including many old and rare varieties.

Jacks Beans are free to anyone to help raise awareness of mental health in memory of our son Jack . Having lost Jack in March last year we discovered his box of beans. Just one single bean grew last from our son Jacks final allotment harvest of over 300 beans. We gave this treasured bean all our love and care all summer, feeding it regularly and protecting it from slugs and pests. From that solitary black bean we again collected and dried them and sowed the offspring recent...ly into little pots . We would love you to grow one and enjoy eating and sharing them with your family and friends . If you would like to find out more about the story of this ancient and amazing bean and why it is called ŌĆ£Cherokee Trail of TearsŌĆØ then please visit http://bunkershillgardenshop.co.uk/jacks- beans/ Jack was a kind and gentle young man of just 23 and we wish that others will get the help they need . We are fundraising at the moment with a sponsored Thames Path Challenge walk in Autumn and hope that you may support the event for Mind . The plant Nursery will close on the 8th of September and we are inviting our customers to join us or perhaps sponsor . Our family are walking 50k and friends and well wishers 28 k. Please click http://bunkershillgardenshop.co.uk/events -fundraising/ To help or join in . Thankyou so much for reading this and please share it with your friends and then call in for your free bean to grow . Love and best wishes Andrew , liz , lucy and Simon . Finding local artwork ¤ÆĢ inspired by nature, this talented artist does her pen & ink pictures immersed in the natural world ¤ŹāEach piece has its own story...this piece entitled 'Tending the Garden' has a quote by John Erskine, "I have never had so many good ideas day after day as when I worked in the garden". I'm sure a lot if your gardeners can agree with the quote. Eimear Brennan Artist

ŌĆ£Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ŌĆ£ Thankyou to everyone who liked our recent post and pictures of our snakehead fritillaries growing in our front lawn . Thankyou to the anonymous donation of ŌĆ£modern art ŌĆ£using recycled materials next to them .The inventive use of a redundant hot water cylinder insulation is truly thought provoking . The artist may have been inspired by the resilience and beauty of the natural word contrasted against mans desire to destroy it. Alternati...vely they may have just needed some space in their car boot and were too busy to put it in their own bin ! Still it takes assorts to make a world and we are still smiling. ItŌĆÖs a lovely sunny day and our little plant nursery is thronging with nice happy customers buying beautiful plants for their gardens .Free teas , lovely handmade cake , dinosaur hunt and thousands of plants await your next visit . Snakeshead fritillaries flourishing in our lawns our Bunkers Hill Nursery. These native wild flowers were once a common site growing in the flood meadows of oxfordshire . Sadly most were lost during ww2 as these ancient sites were plowed up for food production . This would be the perfect weekend to take your family to one of fritillary sites that remain such as Iffley and Ducklington meadows . If that sounds a bit energetic for you then you are welcome to see our modest show...stoppers. We do have some for sale in pots for just ┬Ż2 a pot plus lots of spring bulbs and perennials such as Aubretia , Erysiums and the unusual Erythronium (dogs tooth violets - see picture in the wheel barrow ) Hope to see you soon Kind regards Andrew Ps please share this post if you like it ¤īł ¤żŚ

What a wonderful place- came with my three young children and the staff couldnŌĆÖt have been kinder or more considerate! The two and a half year-old and five year-old loved the dinosaur hunt and the plant they won, meanwhile the kind staff even brought me a free coffee while I was feeding the baby! Beautiful flowers and great value as well, looking forward to planting the bleeding hearts and lily of the valley, and to visiting soon again!

User

What a lovely place! We visited yesterday to do the pumpkin hunt and were blown away with the quality, price of the products and the kindness of all the staff! I will definitely be visiting again very soon!

We are so lucky to have this lovely, almost hidden, gem so local to us! We came yesterday to buy plants for our nearby marina and itŌĆÖll take a few more visits to fill all of our boxes and pots.. but we are getting there.

Not only is it a lovely place to spend time, the plants and trees are all very well looked after, so you always come away with healthy and strong additions for the garden.

My favourite part, itŌĆÖs a small, local family run business that is keen to give something back to the community. Thank you Bunkers Hill ’┐Į

Walking from my office in Kidlington to the post office this morning, the guys on the market stall were setting up. Having seen a wrapped tree on sale I wasn't sure about buying without seeing it before being wrapped.

Well, bit the bullet and dragged a 6 footer to the car.

So pleased I did.

Thank you for saving me time & money but most of all, thank you for a fabulous tree.

Highly recommend ’┐Į’┐Į

Stumbled across this gem today when taking a different route to avoid traffic. Such a charming place full of the most wonderful plants at great prices and pleasant helpful staff. This is how a garden centre should be, not these enormous places that take a day to get round and rob you blind! Also has a lovely area to relax and enjoy a coffee and gorgeous cake. We'll be back for sure.

User

Stopped by for a laurel tree and found a friendly and attractive nursery. It's got a bit of fairy tale charm about it, with pockets of plants here and there. There's even a casual tea and coffee station underneath a large tree. Everything is nicely labeled and the plants are a great value and of a high standard. You can tell they are passionate about plants and are happy to help. Everyone I spoke to was kind and genuine (including the owner Andrew). My husband has already recommended it to a friend who also loved it. We'll definitely be back. Thank you!

User

So glad we bypassed the supermarket and chain garden centres to visit you yesterday. Ok itŌĆÖs a bit more expensive than SainsburyŌĆÖs but great to support a local business and such an attractive place to be on a sunny day. Plants all planted out now and look great. Thank you.

User

Proper old fashioned nursery - with an excellent range of healthy plants. Great prices, too.

User

Love it here. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, loads of choice, some unusual, and reasonably priced plants. Great seasonal events too. And I wouldn't buy my logs and bird food anywhere else!

User

Just a lovely garden centre with all kind of plants,

User

ItŌĆÖs taken us three years in the area to discover this wonderful treasure trove! Thank you so much Andrew, Liz and Lucy, and all of your helpers for being so welcoming and so knowledgable. We came away with some real gems and felt revived by finding such a green haven. Looking forward to returning soon! Liz and Chris. P.s. the tree fern is looking very happy in its new whisky barrel!

User

I just want to say a massive thank you to Andrew and Lucy for helping us here at Toyota for our Macmillan cancer fundraiser. A very successful evening.

I discovered this lovely nursery last year and have become rather addicted! Rarely a month goes by without me finding an excuse to pop in for something. A real plant nursery, not an "emporium" as so many other garden centres seem to be these days. The staff are so friendly and the cakes so good! I'm so sorry the family who runs this place suffered such a tragic mental-health-related loss last year. While I hope you raise lots of money and awareness for mental health through your events, I feel that, in even making a lovely place like Bunker's Hill available , you are helping the cause. A beautiful peaceful spot, wonderful plants, a friendly gardening community...these can all help to alleviate anxiety and depression. I know that a visit to Bunkers always helps to lift my spirits.

User

Full of amazing well loved beautiful plants in good condition - plants you don't see in other places - it is a nursery - not a shop or a garden centre! And served with such good grace and helpfulness by people who are just as bonkers about plants as oneself! Definitely a place for plant lovers only!

User

Excellent nursery, plenty of unusual plants amongst the usual varieties, knowledgeable, friendly staff and gorgeous cut flowers also available. Really well laid out too and I'm just off to buy bird food there as well!
