Revisions to Appointments at Burford Surgery
We are aware that nationally there are long waits for a routine appointment at the surgeries. This has been in the press recently.
We have prioritised urgent matters and will always see patients who need medical care on the same day but that has had a knock on effect on routine appointments.
... We are fortunate to have appointed 2 new partners last year who are working 4 additional sessions per week to try to improve the situation with routine appointments.
From July we will be trying a new system with an increased number of shorter appointments. This will hopefully reduce the waiting time for a routine appointment.
Please be aware that the doctors will not have the time to deal with long lists of medical problems adequately and we ask that you help us by keeping multiple requests to a minimum or are not offended if we ask you to re-book if it isn’t possible to deal safely with your requests during the appointment.
We will keep you updated with progress – we are keeping the Patient Participation Group informed. They are looking for more members – particularly younger patients or people with families/working age people. If you are interested please contact our practice manager burfordsurgeryreferrals@nhs.net for more information

Our current Registrar Dr Tom Hutchinson, is due to leave the Surgery at the end of July, we wish him all the best in his new job, he will be missed by both staff and patients. As many of you are aware, Burford Surgery is a training practice, so with enthusiasm we welcome our new Speciality Trainee Registrar, Dr Nicky Warren, who will be joining us in August.

We are currently experiencing an issue with our messaging service. All patients with telephone calls are receiving a text message to advise of an appointment. If you receive one and you do not have a surgery appointment booked, please call Reception on 01993 822176 to check, do not turn up at the Surgery. Please share this post so we can reach as many patients as possible. Thank you!

STAFF CHANGES AT BURFORD SURGERY
We are delighted to inform our patients that we have appointed two new doctors, Dr Vivienne Austin and Dr John Doris to join the Burford medical team - both will work at the surgery four days a week, starting in the autumn.
Dr Hancock and Dr Kothari will be leaving Burford Surgery in the autumn. Dr Hancock is going to concentrate on his teaching work in Oxford. Dr Kothari’s husband took up a post in London earlier this year and so she has been... commuting from London, but she has found that with a young family this is not sustainable.
We are also delighted to welcome Alison Evans who joined Burford Surgery in February as our Pharmacist, you may find her answering your medication queries.
Our two new doctors will be providing more clinics because we want to considerably improve our patients’ access for appointments at the surgery.
I am sure you will all wish Dr Hancock and Dr Kothari all the best for their future, we will certainly miss them. We look forward to welcoming Dr Austin and Dr Doris to the Burford team.

Lots of men in their 50s are asking whether they should have a PSA test. Patients are very welcome to have a PSA test.
What you have to decide is whether you want to have the test as there are some advantages but also some disadvantages to having a test. It isn't a simple black and white issue but a very grey one.
The main thing for us is to ensure that you are fully informed of the pros and cons of having a psa test before you book it.
