FAQs

Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes, a non-refundable and non-transferrable deposit is required before orders are placed into the diary - to clarify: YOU HAVE NOT PLACED THE ORDER UNTIL THE DEPOSIT IS PAID (Sorry to shout - just wanted to be absolutely clear). The deposit amount is £100 for wedding cakes and £50 for all other cakes. This can be paid via bank transfer, or Paypal. All remaining payments are due on collection /delivery, except for wedding cakes which must be paid for in full two weeks before the Big Day.

Do you deliver?
Yes, delivery can usually be arranged (subject to availability - I can't go gadding about if we've got cakes to decorate! ) within a 60 mile radius of GU11 and this is charged at 90p a mile + £10 for my time. We can also arrange to meet at a mutually convenient half-way point – please ask. All prices quoted are based on collection.

Do you except payment by instalment?
Yes, I can take payment in anything up to three instalments.

What does your wedding cake package include?
Full design consultation, including a face to face meeting (on request) and design sketches, liaison with your reception venue, organisation of cake stand hire (if required, and at additional cost), delivery and set up. Basically, I will do everything we can to make sure you have one less thing to worry about.

Can you make 'free-from' cakes?
Yes I can, but I don't have separate equipment or kitchens for doing so, so there may be traces present. I have excellent recipes for egg and diary free cakes, and gluten free cakes, but if you have an allergy rather than an intolerance, my advice would be to seek a cake maker who has equipment use specifically for 'free-from' baking.

Is there anything you don't do?
Glad you asked. Yes. We're not very good at cakepops so we leave them to those who are. I don't make 'rude' cakes either - no willies or boobies (or worse! ) - mainly because there's a child in the house. And I'm not keen on making pregnant tummies or edible babies. I sound prudish, but I'm not really. Anything else goes! Oh, apart from 'smash' cakes. . . I don't really understand them. Why would you spend all that money on a beautiful cake just to smash it up?

Will any part of my cake be inedible?
Wherever possible my cakes are 100% edible and I take great pride in that, however it isn't always possible. Tiered cakes require dowel supports and sculpted cakes often need internal structures, as do some of my sugarpaste models. When I need to include inedible elements I will ensure that we bring these to your attention on collection /delivery.

A few disclaimer-type things
• Please ensure that all details are correct e. g. name and age. I cannot take responsibility for spelling errors and can only go by the information received by you
• My cakes are created in an environment that contains eggs and nuts. I do not have separate equipment for these cakes so it is possible that traces may be found
• Once the cake has been collected /delivered it is the responsibility of the client, not CakeyCake. I will, of course, offer advice on how to transport and store your cake.

General advice on your cake
• Sugar dissolves in water. DO NOT let your cake get wet! This includes condensation that may form with any extreme changes in temperature, so please don’t put your cake in the fridge. It will be fine on a table or work top.
• Sugar is fragile. Please hold your cake away from your body – don’t clutch it to your chest or pop it under your arm to open a door. And please don’t put anything on top of the box. It might be alright, but it probably won’t.
• Sugar doesn’t go off. It just gets harder. So, yes, you can keep the decorations if you want to. The colours will gradually fade in sunlight though, so you may want to keep them in a tin /box. I wouldn’t advise eating them after more than about a week. . .

Today's covering challenge... I know I've got to make a start but am procrastinating massively in case I balls it up 🤦

George really challenged me this year by choosing an Alex Rider theme for his Birthday cake. I chose a mature colour palette for this discerning 8 year old and clad the lower tier with edible prints from a couple of the graphic novels. The striking images from the covers of the books completed the design.

Sneaky peek!

On my workbench today...

I love making birthday cakes for George because he always gives me such great ideas to work with. I can't wait to show you the theme he's chosen this year!

Hello Cakey friends! Sorry I have been AWOL over the festive period. I have been enjoying some much needed family time, but I'm back in the kitchen from tomorrow (7th) so you can expect to hear more from me. Also, just to remind you that my 2020 diary is now open for bookings, and there is still some availablity for this year too!

Merry Christmas, Cakey friends!

Just sneaking in with my throwback Thursday contribution and Fiona and Marc's wedding cake from four years ago. Still one of my all time faves.

The Nutcracker is such a perfect theme for a December Birthday and I loved making this pretty cake for 6 year old Kaitlyn.

On my workbench today... More teeny tiny sugar shenanigans. Sugar-gnarled thumb for scale.

As I'm working on Kaitlyn's 6th Birthday cake this week, I thought it would be appropriate to throw back to her 5th today. This cake was based on her party invites and I absolutely loved making it!

She's ready for her close up...

Martin celebrated his Birthday at a burlesque cabaret show. I kept the cake simple to allow the model to steal the show. Just as it should be ;)

User

Sneaky peek time... no prizes for guessing who this cake was for!

Today we're throwing back to one of my early favourites: Jenny's anemone planter.

User

Throwing back today to George's ice cream extravaganza. The weather today is utterly miserable and this cake always makes me think of balmy summer days.

User

Beautiful Audrey (I am biased) with her Lego themed cake.

User

Audrey designed her own cake for her Lego themed party and was very specific about the characters she wanted included!

Wonderful cake topper for my dancing daughter. Fabulous Christmas tree and personalised iced parcels too for our Christmas cake. Cakeycake is a superb home-grown business.

Today I had the most excellent and enjoyable one to one modelling day with Harriet. I learnt so much and Harriet is an awesome tutor who is really knowledgeable and patient. I would highly recommend getting in touch to book your session asap.

User

The most spectacular and imaginative and personal cake for my 60th two years ago and guests are STILL talking about it! Genius artist, delicious cake!

User

Thank you for the bearded dragon cake. Not only was it amazingly designed down to the finest detail, it also tasted great. The service and communication was also five star service. I can’t rate this business high enough and would recommend it to anyone wishing for something that little bit extra special.

User

Not just an amazing design, such attention to detail, but it tasted wonderful too!!! Harriet put so much care into getting to know us and creating a cake that matched my Dad brilliantly. Would defiantly recommend and if I can get a slot I will be back!! Book early and you won't be disappointed. Thank you

Just got back from this amazing one to one session with Harriet.

It was a nearly two hour drive and with all the traffic and roadwork, I arrived late and was all flustered and apologetic.

Harriet was very understanding, welcomed me with a warm smile and asked me not worry about it, sat me down and offered me tea and water.

The table was set with two non-stick boards and all the tools and equipment needed.

Harriet started off by explaining what we were going to cover in the session and then took me through it step by step.

I was in awe because I’ve followed Harriet’s CakeyCake page on Facebook for quite awhile and couldn’t believe I was actually having a one to one with this designer of the most beautiful cakes.

She was ever so patient and never let me criticise myself. She always found something nice to say

She allowed me to create my own figure, helping out whenever I needed that little bit of a professional touch to smoothen something out or fine tune.

Throughout the session she offered loads of useful tips.

She made me feel so at ease and we were chatting and laughing all through.

It was amazing and really wonderful to see everything come together at the end.

I would definitely recommend this one to one session because you come away not only with a figurine created by yourself (that has a whole lot of personality) but also with a lot of useful tips and advice as well as a “can do” feeling. Harriet really takes her time to ensure that you get great value for money and that you are satisfied with your little creation.

I’m over the moon because I went there only able create what resembled aliens or monsters and came away having created a man. He had a rather long head but he certainly looked human for a change.

I got so carried away with having fun with the modelling that I forgot to drink my cup of tea.

Harriet assured me that with practice I will get better and you know, I believe her. She gave me an excellent foundation today and I would drive that distance again to do another course taken by her - she was fab and you get to keep the tools . I couldn’t ask for more. Excellent, excellent one to one !!! Thanks Harriet

I'm attempting to frame a part of the cake Harriet created for me, to hang it on my wall with pride. If that doesn't tell you how much I love it then I don't know what will. The design was perfectly flawless and the cake delicious! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

User

I was delighted when a friend's hubby asked me if I knew someone who could make a surprise 40th birthday cake for her. Perfect excuse to finally order a CakeyCake!

Harriet at CakeyCake is a genius at cake baking and an artist with sugarpaste - the small details that she included in the decoration made the cake so personal.

The cake was delicious, the resemblance of the topper, uncanny, and the whole ensemble, a great success!

Thank you CakeyCake.

I had a tutorial from Harriet to help me finesse my sugar figure modelling skills. I loved it and had a great time. She was clear and very informative and I learnt a lot. Thank you Harriet for all you help.

Harriet produced the most amazing cake for my daughters' joint birthday. The two-tier half & half cake was decorated in two distinct, yet complementary, styles - 'Frozen' themed for the 5 year old, and 'Nursery' themed for the 1 year old. It wasn't just a clever idea, it was beautifully fulfilled. In fact, the little sugar paste characters on the cake were so intricate that we haven't had the heart to eat them, and they've been saved for some future occasion. The cake itself didn't last long though - it was so yummy that the party leftovers were quickly consumed by the family.

User

Harriet made our wedding cake back in 2014. It was a white cake with a cascade of multi coloured butterflies - beautiful and delicious. I'm amazed by some of the beautiful cakes she has made since. If I were able to commission one now, I'm in no doubt that I'd ask her to make some of the decorations in something that was not edible so that we could keep it as a souvenir. I always think it is such a shame for these works of art to get eaten!

User

Harriet made our wedding cake and it was utterly gorgeous! Not only do her cakes look incredible, they taste amazing too xxx

User

Harriet is exceptionally talented, working in such detail. We were blown away by our cake. Not only did it surpass our expectations in how it looked, it tasted amazing too! I would without doubt recommend Cakeycake & will definitely be using them again.

User

Harriet is a cakemaster extraordinaire! Enough said; nothing was too much trouble to translate our rather odd brief for a three tier wedding cake into an amazing finished product, including three different types of cake and genius modelling. We absolutely loved it as did all our guests and was a real talking point. Thank you again Harriet

User

Harriet at CakeyCake is truly talented. The dinosaur (Boris) she made for our son's 1st birthday with both our boys on the dinosaur's back in their matching bug shirts and jeans was absolutely awesome. Everybody who saw it thought it was amazing and my son's, especially the 6 year old went bonkers for him. The detail was something else. I would have no hesitation recommending CakeyCake and Harriet to anyone and would definitely use again myself. The cakes are so special it is a shame to cut them. That said they also taste as good as they look.

User

Harriet I cannot thank you enough for making my Mum's 80th birthday cake. We all loved it, even the hotel staff commented how amazing it was, the waitress took photos cause she had never seen a cake like it. You really are a very talented lady.

User

Couldn't recommend enough! The cake is incredible and the attention to detail absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much, I have one happy husband who is actually googling display cabinet for the cake rather than eat it thank you xxxx

User

Amazing Cakes with imagination, realism and awesome attention to detail and the personal touch! I can highly recommend!
