Official press release about the exciting new developments to our bouldering wall. πŸ§—β€β™€οΈπŸ’ͺ
Improvement works will begin in October, and the new facilities will be available from Spring 2019, with most offered in a flexible β€˜pay and play’ format without the need to book in advance.
The new activities include:
... Aerial trekking – New indoor high ropes course including balance beams, tightrope bridges, stepping stones and zip wire, whilst visitors are attached to a continuous safety system.
Auto-belayed climbing - Varied fun climbing walls with an automated safety system which takes up the slack during a climb and controls the descent, - maximising your climbing time
Interactive climbing - active play technology which invites anyone, from the youngest kids to hard training adults, to a have fun and get great physical exercise.
Bouldering – State-of-the-art bouldering cave with improved indoor rock climbing, enabling climbers to move freely and flexibly between climbing holds.
To allow for the building works, the current bouldering wall (low level climbing wall) will be closed from 21 October until early 2019 – when the brand new bouldering facility will be available for climbers. All other facilities, including climbing walls, will be open as usual.
For full details of progress on the project and opening times please visit www.calshot.com or find the centre on social media @CalshotActs
In the meantime, Calshot Activities Centre offers a wide range of water and land-based recreational courses and activities, including dry slope skiing, velodrome cycling, climbing walls, kayaking, windsurfing and dinghy sailing, all of which can be included in great programmes for schools.
The picture attached is a proposed look to the new bouldering wall and may differ slightly when completed.

Velodrome intro session was amazing!

User

The centre and staff are great !! My son skis here Thursday and Saturday night :)

Food in cafe not great ... sorry

User

The activities centre is within the historic Royal Airforce Flying Boat station. And where the famous Schneider Trophy was won out right by the RJ Mitchell designed S6 B in 1931. The base is now divided up in to small hanger, sailing, kayaking and windsurf. And large hangar in to Cycle track, ski slopes, climbing walls and archery. Their excellent, professional instructors lead school groups and individuals to mastery of the chosen sport with enthusiasm and fun. And then you can top up your tanks with a visit to their cafe bar.

User

Only there for RYA South training day but 2hat a hive of activity. Plenty to do and not just watersports. A velodrome, indoor climbing, a dry ski slope and a reasonably priced cafe.

User

My 4 year old daughter loved her action adventure day today. She did ringos, rock climbing and initiative course. Thanks all οΏ½

User

I hosted a party for ten 5-6 year olds. We opted for the Ringo's session. 45 mins was plenty of time for this age group as climbing that hill takes some energy. All the children had a fabulous, smiles all round, even for the nervous smaller ones. I can't recommend this activity enough. We will definitely be back. Party room was just right for what we needed. Joe the activities host was great with the children. What impressed me most was that the parents could get involved spend quality time with their children and their childs friends. Awesome!

User

I attended the 4hr track cycling day on Saturday and it was excellent! !

Harry was a very knowledgeable and interesting trainer who obviously knows his stuff!

Thoroughly enjoyed it, would highly recommend it and will definitely be back!

User

Had a fantastic 4 hour session today, on the stage 1 and Stage 2 velodrome course. The tuition was fantastic, a well Structured day and clear and direct instructions given throughout the session. A great experience and something I will Definitely do again.

User

Great place for water sports with all the facilities you need and a cafe for a nice warm drink and a bite to eat.

User

Fantastic learn to ski course. Rob was a very patient instructor and didn't bat an eyelid at my shrieking and swearing. My daughter also loved her teen course. Great place to learn to ski as it doesn't hurt as much as you think when you fall!

User

Fantastic evening at the velodrome with my husband and 2 boys. Vet nervous at first but the buzz from achieving each level if the track was fantastic. Callum our instructor was brilliant.. very encouraging and helpful. Loved it. Our ages are 20, 23 58 and 61... so if you enjoy cycling you must give it a go οΏ½

User

Excellent climbing center and very friendly atmosphere, the canteen is large and a great selection of food. As a member of the climbing you can park for free.

User

Calshot is one of the best parts of the south coast. Great for boating, camping, rock climbing and a hole lot more, If you want a day out with the kids that will not cost the earth then this is the place to come.

User

Attended a Course here. Friendly staff and good food. The activities looked great- but I had to stay in the conference room! 😊

User

A great session on the Ringos for the kids - fun exercise all round and very well priced. We will definitely return again in the summer holidays as the climbing walls looked awesome as did the velodrome.

User

I've been to Calshot Activities Centre several times in the past few years, to support sessions at the velodrome or ride there myself. I love it! Much less daunting to ride than the Olympic velodromes at Lee Valley (London) or Newport (Wales) and cheaper too. Perfect environment for those new to track riding.

If you're coming with the family, there are great rock climbing indoor walls and an indoor ski slope, plus the beach and castle. The cafe does good food and drinks.

The only reason I don't give it five stars is that the velodrome can be extremely cold in winter (and, I understand, hot in summer) - nothing can be done as a former aircraft hanger, so basically a metal box!

Highly recommended.

User

Lovely to have these facilities so nearby.

User

They do not have basic hygiene standards in place around mealtimes. When I raised the subject of why my daughter and her classmates hadnt ensured they had washed their hands before they went to dinner. They said that the catering was not their responsibility. This is a factual record of the conversation I had with Calshot.
