Did you manage to watch 'Michael Portillo's - Great Canadian Railway Journeys' on BBC2 in January? - well worth a watch on catch up if you didn't. Definitely a bucket list trip!
Michael Portillo journeyed on the First Passage to the West, Rocky Mountaineer's most popular route, which follows the Canadian Pacific track, famous for connecting British Columbia with Canada more than 130 years ago.
In the episode Michael learns more about the engineering achievements including the Spiral Tunnels. The track travels form lush rainforests to a semi-arid desert, alongside powerful rivers and in to the Rocky Mountains to the national park towns of Lake Louise and Banff.

In the travel world, this is defined as 'extraordinary circumstance' which means airlines don't need to compensate or accommodate and insurance companies are likely to have similar get out clauses. Unfortunately we do experience situations that fall under the same heading on a regular basis!
The travellers that have the best protection are the ones who have booked their travel arrangements through one provider (yes this is a plug!) -... by booking a package (flight + hotel/cruise/transport) with the one travel provider you are protected under the EU Package Directive which means the provider must (in the majority of cases) absorb any additional costs for travel completion, curtailment or rebooking.
If you book the components of your travel through separate channels, the responsibility is with you.

From planning to booking to the final days before travel Caroline has gone above and beyond. I usually use Expedia or one of the other online travel resources but I’ll be entrusting all of my holiday arrangements with Caroline from now on.



The devil is in the detail and Caroline has it nailed. She responded to my travel brief brilliantly and delivered 3 fantastic options for me to choose from. That alone saved me hours as I was lacking inspiration and had no idea where to go.



After booking I was pleasantly surprised to receive a guide book to our destination and hand written thank you card a few days after confirming. We’re now about 10 days from going and we were sent a lovely leather bound wallet with all of our transfer information, hotel confirmation, etc.



Add to that the fact the price of the holiday was actually CHEAPER booking with a real person vs. Expedia and you’ve got yourself one happy (and loyal �) customer.
