About Cbsa

We make communities stronger by:
•helping small businesses to grow and create prosperity
•assisting people to remove obstacles to work

Cbsa Description

In 2016 we celebrate 30 years of helping make society a fairer place.

Who We Are:

We make communities stronger by:
•helping small businesses to grow and create prosperity
•assisting people to remove obstacles to work
•working with families to overcome disadvantages, and
•partnering with responsible, small businesses to deliver added benefit to their local areas

Our Origins:

The organisation started in 1986 as a community development agency that helped unemployed young men and women gain the skills and confidence required by employers, as well as providing practical support to local community groups.

In 1989, we developed into a specialist youth enterprise agency – the first such agency in Wales. The agency worked with unemployed young people to make self–employment a positive option, through the provision of training and advice, together with incubator workshop space. Over the following fifteen or so years, the organisation continued to evolve expanding its business support work but at the same time remaining true to its values of social justice through developing a portfolio of activities which focused on addressing social inequality. We take this approach because of our belief that sustainable growth can only happen when the two actions go hand in hand.

Today, we have a membership of just over 2, 500 enterprises. Many partner with us to deliver real social benefit to local individuals and communities. At the same time our partners benefit from a range of support and services to drive forward responsible business practice.

It is with great sadness that all the staff at CBSA will be attending the funeral today of our much loved colleague Chris Samuel who passed away suddenly on New Years Eve. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends, both here & in Malawi. http://ow.ly/O8xr30niJGy

We are delighted with this award. It will enable us to develop further our work with families who are struggling to make ends meet, despite members being in paid work. Most importantly, through Stronger Together, families will work together to develop and deliver their own solutions to the challenges they face in their everyday lives. This will provide them with a greater degree of ownership of the project’s work. Furthermore, through collaborative working, Stronger Together will help strengthen community bonds, as well as providing much needed support to families. We are very grateful to the BIG Lottery Fund for awarding us the grant to carry out this work.
