Complete Worx Pilates Description

Vanessa trained to be a pilates teacher after a prolapse disc in her lower back put her out of action. By rehabilitating her own body with exercise and recognising the value of a tailored home exercise program for life, she wanted to share her experience. As a sports masseuse for nine years, Vanessa was aware of the rewards of maintaining your body much like you service a car to prevent any big bills /accidents. The body requires some input regularly to combat stress and the demands we put it through. Relaxation has become a key factor in all sessions and Vanessa has discovered the most effective way is through sound. See www.completeworxpilates. co. uk for more info.

Happy Autumn! It's been a little while since I posted something. Sometimes it pays to sit back and see where life is taking you. I'm noticing more men are taking the leap of faith and are wanting to learn pilates. Yoga is still up there for extreme sportsmen as a fantastic way to stretch out tight muscles and perhaps add a more meaningful practice of breath work. I still believe yogis could do with pilates (especially the hyper flexible)!
Pilates for men. What is it that attr...acts them? Often it is a referral from an osteopath if they've experienced an injury...back, hips, knees, ankles. It is the go to form of exercise for physios as it is safe, available to the inflexible, functional (ever seen warrior pose coming in handy during your working day? Where as getting on and off that chair, sofa, toilet seat is a squat) and it works. It can be challenging performing the simplest of exercises well.
Pilates is the kind of exercise that doesn't leave you in a sweat, out of breath but you can still be aware of the muscles you worked a couple of days later. It improves functional stability and control. And in contrast to yoga does not leave you overstretched and for some more prone to injury. It lengthens tight muscles, strengthens the weak ones and helps alleviate a wide range of problems from back pain to shoulder issues.
According to the Sunday Times studies have shown that it works. A trial published in the journal 'Applied Science Research' in 2016 showed that regular pilates improved leg strength, gait and walking speed of men in their 60s and older-important in preventing falls. For the younger, more athletic men out there, it is part of the training program for the English, Welsh and New Zealand rugby union teams to offset injury.
Women are pretty good at looking after themselves but do pass this on to any men you know who could benefit! I am available for 1-2-1s in and around Goring, Wallingford, Henley, Sonning, and Caversham area. Contact Vanessa on 07906186912.

NEW PILATES CLASS starts tomorrow. Beginners - those with back issues -or over 65s Friday 9th March 4.30pm Dunsden Village Hall £9.50 taster session
... I am super excited about this one. The reason being having had 4 years of back pain I am qualified to help those who have hit the end of the road with ideas of how to treat pain.
As a clinical pilates instructor, I am able to offer carefully selected exercises that target specific issues (neck/shoulder/hip/back/knee/ankle) safely. I will be focusing on the retraining and recruitment of the deep stabilising muscles (core stability) which is much harder to do with a back injury. It takes time and patience! You will notice an improvement in your posture, strength and flexibility by week 6.

A new message for 2018! While everyone else is kick starting their new healthy regimes post xmas indulgence, i'd invite you to be still sometimes, take some long slow breaths and move with more awareness.
Winter is a time to hibernate, feed up and conserve energy for spring (look at those bears). It gives you a window in the year to relax, retreat and enjoy the simpler activities. Read the books you have always wanted to, paint, light some candles and hunker down.
Heath w...ise, the body needs warm food - soups and casseroles rather than salads. Ginger, tumeric and cinnamon to spice up your life!
Here is my favourite, warming ginger chai tea for the winter: cardamon seeds (shelled, tea spoonful) few cloves lump of fresh ginger grated honey (any variety, local is good)
Take a big pan and fill it with cold water, add the ginger, crushed cardamon seeds and clove and heat until you see bubbles in the water, remove from the heat and put a generous spoon of honey in, place the lid on and leave for 5-10mins. Reheat if needed a little and pour. Happy and healthy 2018 x
