Thank you very much for accommodating 12 unexpected children & adults for lunch, our waiter Pele could not of been more friendly or more helpful. We were situated in a large spacious area and the food was lovely. Thank you 5 stars x

User

My mum, sisters and I had a fab weekend! Rooms spacious and clean. Staff friendly. Pool nice and hot tub. Only one bit of advice needs water barrels around spa/pool area. Not just one water fountain the other side of pool. Also bar area needs updating furniture bit tatty too. Massage great! 3 course meal nice too. Overall good experience.

I've read some amazing stories about the lack of management decision-making, dreadful food and slow service. So here is my take on it; I had been very ill with heart operations, massive infections and endless pain. My sons 18th was skipped over, Christmas was a non-event, my birthday was in the middle of my recovery and the start of the infection and so on.

A very bad and bleak time. So to celebrate all those events and my wife's forthcoming birthday I invited 18 friends to dinner! The banqueting staff helped set it all up and I got a huge discount for an overnight stay with breakfast.

Turned up on the afternoon and my room hasn't been booked. Without a moment's hesitation we were upgraded to a Club room - larger, shower and bath, more goodies. So that was management working.

The dinner was gorgeous and perfectly served; enough staff to be prompt and helpful with decent direction from the senior bod. Piping hot and without the huge waits folk have complained about. So, that's the staffing levels.

After dinner in the bar, and despite the number of guests, we had pretty good service. The breakfast was hugely varied and beautifully laid out, we were shown our table and ate hot, freshly cooked food, proper filter coffee and just people-watched for a while. The restaurant was packed and I neither saw nor heard any discordance.

True, some of the furniture was a bit banged about but our room was extremely clean, the bed was very comfy and the water was hot and plentiful.

Overall my guests and I were treated extremely well, the food was wonderful and the staff were welcoming and really very helpful. It was a lovely evening of celebration with friends I adore.

To the low scorers and complainers; perhaps its you? You know, if reception is busy and there are only 2 staff, a little empathy would probably go further than a complaint about the lack of staff - they already know they're short handed!!

User

Had a lovely experience there today. Staff was on point. Very friendly. Went with 4 other mums and five Teenagers for one of the girls birthdays. They had a lovely time and so did we. I will definitely go back there.

User

The lighting is very poor at reception area and rooms.I was disappointed to see the outside and inside water futures were not in working condition. They beautify the hotel..There was no usual cool music you get in hotels. The standards have deteriorated. We didn't have the spa slot as booked but one and half hours later and that put our programme in disarray.

User

Great experience at the hotel. Staff were brilliant and very attentive. Enjoyed a fantastic dinner on Sunday. Buffet breakfast and a 25 min massage to finish off the weekend. Only down point was a long wait for dessert and the room could have done with a better clean. Would definitely come back again!

User

The Hotel it’s self was beautiful but it’s located just after an industrial estate but luckily you can’t see any buildings once you get to the hotel. There’s a beautiful lake where you can go walking and see the sunset. Staff were very polite, friendly and professional especially Simone on Reception who showed us round and was very informative. We had a lovely time at the hotel. We had a lovely suite and access to the lounge. They have Excellent spa facilities. We made use of the steam room and also went swimming this morning which was lovely. They have a bar/restaurant where they serve food if you don’t want to eat in the restaurant side. They also have an Indian menu which is quite limited. We preferred the bar menu as there was more choice on food as I’m vegetarian. The only down side was that we paid cash as we went along for drinks at the bar. When we checked out, we were told to pay for our drinks we had at dinner. We told the gentleman on reception that we’ve already paid cash. He said they will investigate it and get back to us via email in 72 hours. Word of advice, always keep your receipts before you check out, it saves all the aggravation.

User

Staff on reception very welcoming, although failed to tell us on arrival that the balcony with our room was not to be used as it had just been painted!!! Not very impressed as it was a beautiful day and a perfect opportunity was missed!!! Staff at the bar/glaze restaurant were very slow, not very focused on what they were doing etc-struggled to take down orders and bring order out due to being far too distracted. Room service was impeccable however!

User

Me and my mum came here for a spa day. The jacuzzi and outdoor hot tub was nice. We both had the same treatments, but my experience wasn’t great.. my therapist talked to me through my whole massage and it was meant to be a leg and foot massage, I didn’t get my feet touched atall. And there was constant dripping from a leaking air con machine In the treatment room. Overall ok but disappointed with the treatments

User

Afternoon tea for two.

Having been here last year and really enjoyed ourselves, we decided to book again and went today. This was a totally different story. Firstly came the tea, but the waitress disappeared and I had to go hunting for sugar. We had asked for our sandwiches to not have mustard in them, so what came was just pickle and not much else in dry bread. The scones were amazing, still warm from the oven, but no butter. I went to the bar and asked and was told but we've got clotted cream! Cakes were also very nice, but the tea was weak and nasty, so when we asked if we could have a coffee we were told we had to pay for it. Not good value in my opinion. We won't be going back in a hurry.

User

the service is disgraceful, the hot tub was vile, incorrect information was given at all times, no-one was willing to help with any issues. We complained before even arriving at the hotel! the fire alarm went off twice, no health and safety checks carried out before turning the alarm off they just guessed everything was okay! to top it all off I have been in touch with the general manager Nick Parry who has bribed me with a £24 refund should I agree not to post any negative feedback. When declining his offer he replied to inform us he would no longer be responding to our emails! I would highly advise that no-one stays at this hotel.

User

We have buy a gift vouchers for a spa day and nobody at the hotel seems to want to help book it! Very frustrating and poor customer service. Have tried calling and emailing numerous times and either get hung up on or ignored

User

This place is horrendous, due to the most awful service. Bland tea and sandwiches fit for a child’s tea party.

The GM agreed how terrible the service had been, but said he wouldn’t give us any discount as he would have to explain it to senior management?!!?

Spend an extra pound and go to the ivy.

User

This is not great place to stay. This hotel is keeping credit card data of the guests without any authorisation and charges the amounts with no approval after 6 months from my last stay. This is called stealing. On the top of it, they dont have time to reply the complaint. NOT RECOMMENDED

User

There service is not good . There is no any health and safety for employee i work there in spa as a beauty therapist one day i was very sick and they force me to do massage i was very sick i said i cant give a preshar its not fare with client i could not go to work for next week so they took my all month wages said you break rules they don’t care about employees and try to not pay for them heard work

User

Such a shame our afternoon tea had been made up prior to our arrival and was a little dry with a distinct lack of tea, the service was appalling, a simple complaint about slow service quickly escalated out of hand only to be exacerbated by the rudeness of the bar manager when taking payment. What should have been a joyous celebration for my guests and I has been overshadowed by a very unfortunate experience.

User

My husband and I recently stayed here as part of a virgin experience Spa Escape and Treatment package that he gave me as a Christmas present. We booked early to avoid disappointment. We had initial booking issues as when we booked we were given an allocated spa time, when we called a week in advance to confirm they had no record of our booking. After speaking with 3 different people on the phone and not getting an answer I finally got a new spa time slot but not when we had originally asked for. The hotel is trying to market itself as a high-end establishment but the service they provide is more suited to that of a premier inn. The food and drink is overpriced and of poor quality (£18 for breakfast that you can get at a premier inn for £10). They had 4 people serving in an empty bar lounge at lunch time but then come the evening with 20 people in the lounge for dinner only 2 people serving and spent more time worrying about guests in the higher priced restaurant area rather than those customers waiting at the bar. They are not maximising the hotels potential and trying to hard to be something they are clearly not. The spa staff were friendly and attentive however they were running late and that meant that our treatments felt rushed and not up to the standard expected. Also, for somewhere that is suppose to be a relaxing health spa it felt slightly less relaxing and reminiscent of a Butlins weekend break at times with children running round the hot tubs and pool areas. We have no issue with children but felt there should have been an earlier cut off time for those people looking for a quiet relaxing atmosphere. All in all we felt the hotel was not up to the standard promised. It has the potential to be great but the management are not making the most of the fabulous facilities they have available and subsequently they are trying to do too much and therefore comprising on quality.

User

If you want a nice afternoon tea, go somewhere else!

What a let down.... had a reasonable tea, although the sandwiches were a bit stale but the service was really terrible.

This was compounded by a true lack of customer service when dealing with the feedback given to staff. Having to ask multiple times for tea (yes, we were there for tea!) and waiting an age for things to arrive, I suggested they might like to look at the bill before bringing it to us. The bar manager said, I will pass the feedback on but there’s nothing I can do with the bill!

Heated discussions ensued and nothing was done to help the situation sadly. Eight of us left feeing very disappointed with the service and with a very bad feeling about the whole thing.

Natalie, the bar manager was particularly rude and unhelpful.

User

Beautiful hotel, stunning location. Completely understaffed. Rooms were not ready two hours after checking in. Long wait to get served at the bar. Evening meal complete shambles. Not enough staff, made to feel unwelcome. Shown to table and ignored for twenty five minutes. Waited an hour and half for starters and cocktails. Whole restaurant complained, tables not cleared, argumentative staff , completely flustered. Took three hours for meal, such a shame for birthday girl who had organised this break months in advance. Staff argued amongst themselves, very unprofessional and embarrassing.

Buffet breakfast was beautiful with lots of choice. However again not enough staff to clear tables.

Shame that lack of staff spoils the experience as the hotel has lovely spacious rooms and good facilities.

We won't be going back in a hurry.

the service is disgraceful, the hot tub was vile, incorrect information was given at all times, no-one was willing to help with any issues.

We have buy a gift vouchers for a spa day and nobody at the hotel seems to want to help book it! Very frustrating and poor customer service. Have tried calling and emailing numerous times and either get hung up on or ignored

This is not great place to stay. This hotel is keeping credit card data of the guests without any authorisation and charges the amounts with no approval after 6 months from my last stay. This is called stealing. On the top of it, they dont have time to reply the complaint. NOT RECOMMENDED
