Who are we?
Ordinary people
All kinds of people are members of our church and come to our meetings. People of different ages, temperaments, backgrounds – some are very young, some are old, some at school, others in a variety of professions, unemployed or retired – teachers, accountants, printers, secretaries, pharmacists, housewives, skilled technicians, school maintenance staff etc. Some of us live in Cuckfield, others in Haywards Heath or the surrounding area.
Caring people
Our regular meetings do form a very important part of our lives, but being part of a church is much more than about attending meetings. If people know anything about Jesus Christ, they generally know that he loved people deeply, and we too love one another and are concerned for the things that bother us day by day.
Believing people
The thing that unites us is our common faith. The great truths of the Christian Faith are precious to us not merely out of some historical interest, but because they have changed our lives for the better! In a nutshell we believe that:
The Bible is God’s own word and its teaching the only sure means of finding the truth about God, ourselves and our world.
God loves people, and that the greatest demonstration of that love is seen when his only Son, Jesus, came to rescue people from a danger they didn’t even realise they were in, which the Bible calls ‘sin’.
God’s rescue plan was carried out perfectly when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead nearly 2000 years ago.
Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, everyone who truly puts their trust in Jesus receives the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life – that is they come to know God, become his people and have a future in heaven guaranteed!
The Holy Spirit has power to change those who trust in Jesus, giving them a new start, helping them to understand God’s word and empowering them to live a wonderful life!
Learning people
We love to meet together for a number of reasons, not least because in our meetings we spend time studying the Bible.
Far from being a dull, boring, out of date book, the Bible is nothing less than God’s message for us all! God is still speaking, and whenever the Bible is taught we hear his voice.
Life is full of questions, some important some not so important: The Bible is an answers book, and gives us relevant, logical, practical, honest, encouraging answers to life’s complexities!
It is for this reason, more than any other, that we invite you to our meetings, so we can learn together, discovering the answer to life’s ultimate questions.
Cuckfield Baptist Church is not an exclusive club: EVERYBODY is welcome to come to our meetings.
