Curious Little Monkeys

The biggest monkey is thrilled to be 140cm and allowed on all the rides at Alton Towers! He braved the Smiler, Oblivion and Nemesis today. He's having the best time 😍

Lots of lovely things today! Smores, birthday slime, painting without brushes and playing in the sunshine to name just a few. We have one space left in our session on 10th October. We are starting Tuesday sessions on 30th Oct (see events for details) 😀

We had such a great session on Wednesday. We welcomed new people and had a lot of fun. You can see some beautiful, proud faces in some of these pictures - as children achieved things they hadn't before :) We are full for Wednesday 3rd October and have 1 or 2 spaces remaining in our other October sessions. See 'events' for our new Tuesday classes starting 30th Oct!

This one hour session will begin with a game involving words or letters. This could be as a group or in pairs.
We'll then enjoy a story, poem, film clip or other text together, which will be our inspiration for the session.
The children will be then introduced to their writing task and we'll take a little time to share our ideas before getting started.
... To finish the session we'll have a reflection on how things went, with children sharing their creations if they wish.
If the children would like to continue at home, there will be an optional take-home writing/reading mission related to what we have done on the day.
The structure of these fortnightly sessions will remain the same, so the children will quickly get used to the format. The games, text, task, and take-home mission will change each session.
These sessions will be suitable for everyone from non readers/writers to confident readers/writers. We'll support and guide children as needed.
Cost per child is £7 and the minimum age is 5. The session will be run by myself and Roz (both QTS) and the group will have a maximum of 10 children. The session is a drop-off, but if you haven't met us before do feel free to arrange to visit us beforehand. Your first session is half price and places are secured once payment is received.

This one hour session will begin with a look at a piece of artwork by a famous artist. We'll have a brief discussion and share our thoughts and interpretations.
Then the children will be introduced to their project for the session. We'll take a little time to collect our ideas and produce some rough designs before getting stuck in.
To finish the session we'll have a reflection on how the things went, with children sharing their creations if they wish.

We are very excited to announce that we are expanding our sessions! We'll now be running Crafty Little Monkeys and Creative Little Monkeys on a Tuesday afternoon fortnightly.
Crafty Little Monkeys will be an art/craft group and Creative Little Monkeys will be a gentle literacy group.
Both sessions will be an hour and held in our cozy cabin. They will run (1:45-2:45 & 2:50-3:50).
... From now on all our sessions (including our Wednesdays) will be set up as events on this page to make it easier to find information and availability.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, kind person who would be interested in gaining some experience of working with children. We would love to offer the chance of some work experience to a home educated teenager. This would be ideal to boost confidence, gain skills in all sorts of areas and have something to put on a CV. We learnt a whole lot about water today! It was brilliant to hear the enthusiastic questions from the children and see them solve a water engineering problem. They worked really well together to build a network of pipes to supply water to a town. We have some budding engineers on our hands! After lunch, some of us made three invisible inks using lemon juice, iron sulphate, copper sulphate and ammonium chloride. We need to add heat to our inks to cause a chemical reaction to r...eveal our secret messages next week! Can't wait!

We are looking at starting a 'Crafty Little Monkeys' session either fortnightly or monthly which will be in our cosy cabin (perfect wet weather activity for the winter!). It'll be a lovely, calm, small group for two hours (with a snack/drink provided). We'll be doing seasonal arts and crafts covering all sorts of skills. This will be in addition to our regular Curious Little Monkeys which is on a Wednesday.

We have three special sessions coming up - World of Water on Wednesday 12th September, our Slime Workshop on Friday 21st September and a Halloween themed crafty session on Wednesday 31st October. See comments for event links 😀

On Wednesday we made monsters/creatures/aliens from playdough and had great fun with aeroplanes - trying to get them to fly the furthest and do stunts. We made fruit pizzas for our snack and started an epic Lego challenge. We made some fabulous pictures using Lego to stamp with paint, read stories, made up a great game involving territories in the sand and there was even a spaceship or two created.
