Club Re-Opening 10am
We're pleased to say our contractors arrived on site early this morning and have made the roof area safe, which means we are ready to open much earlier than planned today.
We will open from 10am this morning.
... All facilities are operational except for our classes, which have been cancelled due to the uncertainty surrounding our opening time today.
We are working to add some classes to the timetable for today and at the very least we will programme some virtual classes to run.
We apologise once more for any inconvenience caused and hope to see you in Club soon.

Due to high winds we have been forced to close the Club with immediate effect.
Several roof panels have been blown loose and have landed in front of the Club, which poses a risk to our members safety while entering and exiting the club.
We will remain closed for the remainder of the day and will not re-open until our contractor can complete the repairs. Unfortunately this cannot be done while we are experiencing high winds.
... We anticipate the work to be completed at some point on Sunday, but this very weather dependant at this stage.
We advise that you wait until we issue an update once we are open before making your way to the club on Sunday.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused but I’m sure you understand the safety of our Members and Team must take priority.
Kind regards
Nathan Gillingham General Manager

**Motivational Monday - Member Testimonial**
We've received yet another fantastic testimonial from one of Scott's Personal Training Clients, this time from Jane!
"Following a hamstring injury sustained during a 10Km run, the osteopath treating me suggested I engage a personal trainer for a few sessions in order to strengthen my hamstrings and surrounding muscles. Consequently I asked at David Lloyd whether there was someone who had a particular interest in running and who cou...ld provide two or three sessions to help me meet that brief. Scott’s name was provided and given that was 13 months ago, my hamstring is back to normal and my running greatly improved, the fact that I still see him every week for personal training is testament say how much I have and continue to value his help and advice.
Scott advised that developing a strong core, promoting total-body strength as well as regular lunges and squats would help in my recovery. He devised specific programs, which varied my routines and kept boredom at bay. He paid attention to how I might be feeling on training days, whether I needed to pay more attention to particular muscle groups or indeed might be overtraining. He would devise a program but then adapt it accordingly if necessary. I‘ve always felt I can rely on his knowledge of health and fitness training
He encouraged me to think about weight training and I have discovered I enjoy this as an entity in itself rather than just as a means to a running end. Due to this I have started body pump sessions, which has not only increased my general fitness, but also my confidence generally. My experience bears out the increasing research studies on the benefits to woman that strength training boosts not only bone density but also adds to confidence levels. It was down to Scott that I felt confident enough to venture into the classes and they consequently become a weekly fixture.
Scott’s sessions are fun but I know that he manages to combine having fun with realistic aims, objectives and goals. I know that job satisfaction is highly important to him and that seeing improvement in his clients’ health and fitness is paramount to this satisfaction. He’s a great PT and gym instructor. He’s also a lovely friendly face to have around the gym."

I rejoined a year ago after a few years away. I've been really impressed with the high standards of equipment, cleanliness and facilities. I've really enjoyed the classes on offer and have found all the instructors and staff enthusiastic, welcome and friendly.

User

I joined this gym a few months ago and I have to say it is the best gym I have ever been to. The staff are all super, super friendly :-) and the gym is very clean and has everything you could wish for.

I completely disagree with the negative reviews on here. The customer service is perfect and the reception staff always greet you with a smile. I've worked with two personal trainers both of whom are exceptionally polite and knowledgable.

This gym is the reason I love working out. I would definitely recommend to everyone.

Excellent club, took my children there swimming, pool was nice and warm, and they had lots of floats for the children to play with.. we had a coffee too and as we relaxed, the children were able to play with toys and ipads in the children's corner that they already had on little tables at their height which kept them busy .... Fab place, staff were very welcoming and friendly .

User

Clean plenty of equipment good pool great staff and excellent trainers can’t fault the place

User

Been member with my husband for 18 years. Unfortunately the club has gone downhill and the complains go nowhere. We are early swimmers and with the membership fee we pay, we don't get the service. This morning at 7Am, the sauna door was wide open, sauna also is not even on sometimes in the morning and we have to phone the reception and let them know ( not our job!) ,When I asked the receptionist, he said the cleaners have left it open! A member closed it and it took a long time for sauna to get hot, then there was a child sock on the floor, which apparently the cleaner! Had not Seen it and my husband picked it and put it in the bin. We have been two of the few members from years back that stayed with club and been patient with so many issues, but now seriously considering leaving the club.

User

Were a member 6 years ago and decided to quit after 2 years because the pool was not really clean, the changing rooms were 'tired' and the gym area was not at all inviting. Rejoined a few months back and I found a completely different environment. The pool is clean, changing rooms have been refurbished completely, the gym area has a lot of new machines, a lot of space for training. And the instructors are excellent, as well as the rest of the people. I have never had any problem to find free machines to exercise, the pool is not too crowded (although Sunday afternoons are a no go!) as well as the sauna and steam room. The cafeteria has been also refurbished and is really inviting now. I only ate there once, so cannot comment on the food (although there were a lot of good choices and the kids enjoyed the fish and chips). A special mention to the management team; when we went back to see before joining they were really good to explain all the possible choices we had to join as a family, and also suggested us the right instructor for taking personal training lessons (which we did, both my wife and I, and really enjoy!). Money really well spent. A couple of times I had to mention to the people at the reception that the shower area needed a bit of cleaning, but it was at the end of the day and I got an acknowledgement by email from the manager that they were looking into it.

I really enjoy teaching pilates at David Lloyd Brighton..... meeting new people every week as well as the regulars. I'm there Fridays at 5.30pm in the wellness studio downstairs. Be lovely to meet some more new people too. All abilities welcome. Great staff at reception and in the gym too. And great equipment. Hope to see you soon

User

Good gym, I just wish they'd invest in a hack squat machine, a hex bar for deadlifting - to hit glutes at a different angle, & a lying down hamstring machine. Rather than spending all the money on the cafe area. It is a gym after all. (I have to go to Cheetahs on the days I want to use these bits & other equipment). I stay at DL for the pool.

User

Normally I’m happy with the club (aside from minor issues - ie it’s a shame there isn’t nicer lighting in the spa areas and so few of the shower soap dispensers work!) Today though, I saw just how ineffective management is. On arrival there was a group of people at reception complaining about kids running amok in the ‘adults only’ cafe area. After my swim, I went for a cup of tea - and found there were indeed, loads of kids running around screaming. More people in the cafe complained only to be told that ‘it’s the parents’ responsibility’ The parents clearly didn’t give a damn and neither did staff. So if you’re thinking of joining and are sold by the (touted) idea of a quiet ‘adult only’ workspace upstairs, you might be disappointed.

User

For the "high end" price tag you don't get high end service. The spa which was my main reason for chosing DL over other gyms has been out of use for over a week and when I asked reception if they knew how long it would be unavailable they could not say. The potential is there but needs work....

User

Please would you give some information on what is in the cleaner you spray around the poolside. Your staff member said it was called Poolsafe. I was swimming while she was liberally spraying it around and had to stop because I couldn't breathe properly and couldn't stop coughing. This is a serious health issue. Please either change to a cleaner with 'natural' ingredients, or do not spray while the pool is in public use.

User

Worst thing I've ever done in my life is sign up to this gym! Worst staff in the world!!! I paid upfront for a year in October 2014, in September 2015 I wrote to them to inform them that I didn't want to continue my membership.. Without informing me they renewed my contact anyway!!! Then sent me a letter saying I owed them X amount.. Since then I have spoken to them also 30times by phone and email!! And they still haven't ended the contact I didn't even agree to!!!

User

Well... first day here... no tour, told to walk through double doors which was a single door. Food took 40 minutes (the place was empty), food was not good.. a medium rare steak was well done.. chips cold... it was chaotic with useless staff... just young girls without a clue and some with an attitude! Platinum membership and was never given towels had to get back and ask for a second time!!! Spa pool not working, machines not working...Perhaps get Dan from durrington David Lloyd to run the place as he would sort this shambles out of school leavers pretending to run a place!!!?

User

We had a family membership for good afew years but the standard of DL Brighton marina has fallen way below standard. There are flies hovering in the shower areas and we have complained so many times and nothing has been done. This is a health and safety issues as no matter how harmless these flies are they are not a pet and it should be taken seriously in the interest of public safety. The swimming pool water temperature is always cold especially in the winter and pool hygiene is the worst as you can feel the grit while walking on the floor in swimming pool. In the shower areas there are clumps of loose hair and no cleaners to be seen !! my wife got the athlete foot and the children got a rash on the skin which is taking a long time to clear. We have to cancel our membership in emergency as we could not continue in view of the family's health related issues.

User

The general cleanliness and up keep of this centre is noticeable lower than the other David Lloyd gyms I have visited. The decor is dated and often unclean.

User

Really disappointed with this club. (David Lloyd, Brighton marina) Not child friendly at all. My children will not go there due to rude members not liking children. Bought 11 personal training sessions in January this year . Took 5 and then pt left in April. No one contacted me regarding the rest of them. It is now November and still nothing after numerous phone calls to them.

I have tried to cancel my membership and they are saying I cannot until Feb 1st next year. Awful customer service

User

Lack of customer service, don't reply to complaints, no keys for lockers which led to theft of personal belongings... if you are thinking of joining here, take your custom elsewhere because these bunch of chances don't give a toss.

Lack of customer service, don't reply to complaints, no keys for lockers which led to theft of personal belongings... if you are thinking of joining here, take your custom elsewhere because these bunch of chances don't give a toss.
