Dd Storyteller Description

Hi, I'm Dawn Nelson and I started writing at the age of six. I had a story to tell. Aliens had landed on Wimbledon Common and it was my job to teach them about the animals that lived there. The badger, the fox, the rabbit and the bird all featured in my story. This is where my passion for storytelling began.

Now, as an author of mystery novels I weave facts into my stories to entertain and inform in the true tradition of detective fiction. With a love for fairy tales, myth and fable, it was natural that I began children's storytelling.

Through the use of story-boxes I have created mini mysteries that engage children, entertaining them as they learn, inspiring imagination and creativity.

My original stories take children on a journey to discover the mystery behind the missing gold, follow the trail to the orchard apples and help Ursula put the stars back in the sky.
My stories are typically for 3 - 8 year olds and can be adapted to suit older audiences and a variety of settings. Below are some examples of the events that I can attend and I would love to hear from you if you have an event in mind. Please message me via this page.

* w a t e r * I found this little shell on the beach a couple weeks back. A bit bashed but it contained such beauty in its colours that I was drawn to make something with it. 🐚 I glued some seed beads into the groove at the top, varnished it and hung it on a silver chain I have. 🐚 A little celebration of the element of water.... 🐚 The ocean is untamed and magical and we love to tell stories of the sea. What is your favourite?

Three-hundred and ninety years ago a story collector was born. Charles Perrault was born on the 12th January 1628 and became one of the most famous collectors of fairytale. His versions of Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Hop O' My Thumb preceded those of the Grimm Brothers and he is responsible for the first recording of some very famous tales. • h e d g e r o w • I love the clematis seed heads at this time of year. An invasive yet nochalantly beautiful plant it has many names - Old Man's Beard, Traveller's Joy, Whippy Wood - however you know this plant, in plant lore it is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and feathery seed heads that bring joy to the winter traveller. However, it's also said to do the devil's work as it dominates the hedgerows outgrowing it's neighbours and choking them into submission. #oldmansbeard #clematis #travellersjoy #whippywood #hedgerows #plantlore

There have always been tales of the little people about the house, helping out or even hindering. Piskies, fairies, bwbach, nisse, borrowers and brownies, whatever you call them, there is so much folklore surrounding them, they must exist, right? The Romans certainly thought so and they called their household helpers Lares and Penates. The Lares were guardians of the household and the Penates spirits of ancestors past.
