Misted Units.
Can a misted window unit be repaired?
It is always better to replace the failed unit with a new double glazed unit. New double glazed units are not as expensive as most people think. We also recommend replacing any double glazing with new energy rated glass as this can help save you money on heat loss from your windows.
We are experts at repairing all types of double glazed windows from tilt and turn to casement to fully reversible windows in UPVC, timber and aluminum frames.
Does the whole window/door need replacing?
Many customers are concerned that the full window/door will have to be replaced, this is not the case and our window replacement team will only change the failed units, saving you money.
We have replaced hundreds of blown/misted or steamed up windows and its a very affordable of way of getting your double glazed window unit looking like new again.

#RisingDamp #Builders #Surrey #London
Rising Damp is caused by water in the ground rising up through bricks and mortar by capillary action. Which normally occurs when your DPC (Damp Proof Course) is damaged or insufficient clearance is allocated. Unless treated, dampness can cause wood rot and corrosion to cavity wall ties and also affect our health (increases the risk of respiratory illness in homes).
The usual maximum height it can rise to in walls is 1m depending on the ma...sonry types and outside ground levels. Rising damp manifests itself as a horizontal tide mark, below which there will be discolouration, patches, peeling wallpaper and typically white salt deposits which have been drawn out of the brickwork by the water. In most cases you will not see any serious signs of mold which is normally an indication of condensation rather than rising damp.
We use several alternative systems and solutions for curing and preventing rising damp. One of the most effective and economical is achieved by injecting a pressurised silicone based chemical into the wall through a series of small holes which are later filled. When it dries, a water-repellent barrier is left within the wall. It is usually necessary to remove some of the internal plaster contaminated with salts from the rising damp and reinstate with a salt resistant plaster which will allow the moisture in the wall to dry out naturally.

Pointing
A mortar mix should never be stronger than the bricks. If it is, the natural drying-out process of the wall will be unable to express itself through the bedding medium and instead, it will do so through the bricks. A good mix for a cement-based pointing mortar would be one part cement plus one part lime to six parts soft sand. Adding hydrated lime to water to a creamy consistency and then using sharp, rather than soft, sand can make a true lime mortar, suitable for ...softer and older brickwork.
Mix the mortar quite stiff. Dampen the wall. Start from the top of the wall and work downwards. Pick up a quantity of mortar on the hawk and cut it into sausage shapes, pushing one strip to the edge. Pick up a short length with the pointing trowel and, holding the hawk beneath to catch any falling material, push the mortar into the vertical joints. Hold the hawk against the wall directly beneath horizontal joints and push the sausage of mortar into the bed with the pointing trowel. Do not smear the face of the brickwork.
Wait until the mortar is beginning to set before shaping it. For a struck joint, simply sweep the edge of a trowel across and down the face of the brickwork and then brush off with a soft brush. More usual is a flush joint where a jointer or a short length of pipe is dragged along the mortar to create a slightly curved indent. Do the vertical joints first and when you have ironed all the joints, brush off any loose material with a soft brush.
Recessed or raked joints, where the mortar is pushed back from the face of the brick, are not suitable for exposed conditions or for softer bricks. Weatherstruck pointing provides a sloping surface for water to run off. Recess the pointing about 5mm at the top but bring it flush at the bottom. Make sure the vertical joints are all "struck" in the same direction.
