Desire... something which can cause a great deal of pain. One function of desire may be to remove ourself from the present - it can help us deal with or cope with difficult circumstances by focusing on something we haven’t yet got but need/want...however if we constantly live in a world governed by desire then at what point do we stop to appreciate what we have?... at what point do we learn to adopt a practice of acceptance for the present moment rather than some moment we seek in the future...living with desire can remove us from the present... it can remove us from our life....Whilst dreams of what we don’t have may seem fulfilling they can often make us miss out on what we have already achieved in meeting our desires #epicurus #desire #appreciation #acceptance #life #inthemoment #hope #achievement #spiritual #drkaurtherapy

Depression can make an impact on anyone at any time. ‘Success’ does not necessarily safeguard against depression...but if depressions occurs, it doesn’t have to win...

With the focus on suicide prevention this week its useful to think about the effects of Suicide on loved ones but also more broadly on the experience of loss. Often sudden endings of any kind can bring with them feelings of pain, questions which have no answers and the experience of being stuck in time while the world carries on without being a witness to the loss. Closure is a term used regularly to describe the sealing off of these types of events in ones mind, however it c...an be misleading to suggest that something can be dealt with and then put to bed for good. Memories will resurface, questions will continue to arise and moments of feeling stuck in time will come back. Our mind is not a machine, our mind processes experiences in many ways over time. We all have our own stories to write. Find a way to be able to sit with the discomfort, to write the unwritten story that you have experienced and to allow time to guide your experience. When one story hasn’t found its ending, the next chapter can live on in your life... #suicide #suicidepreventionmonth #suicideawareness #pain #growth #story #endings #writeyourstory #drkaurtherapy

Criticism - the expression of disapproval of someone (or something) on the basis of PERCEIVED faults or mistakes.
Many people from all walks of life fear the manifestation of criticism. Criticism can lead to humiliation, embarrassment, a sense of failing and not being good enough. So a classic response to this fear can be to avoid criticism by all means...by doing nothing, by saying nothing and by being nothing...although taken literally a person who didn’t say or do anythin...g would be criticised severely ...imagine a mother who had a house to run, who hose to say or do nothing...perhaps criticism would even come before concern...
However, Aristotle was talking in much broader terms of advancement. If we want to advance ourselves and therefore those around us we can only go in one direction...towards change, which would necessitate saying and doing things differently, which opens the door towards criticism...
Receiving criticism may not be as daunting as we think..it can have many benefits such as helping us to see things from a different perspective and enable us to potentially take on board feedback. These are skills learnt after/alongside accepting that criticism can be constructive if not taken personally.
If criticism is delivered with an attacking slant remember that criticism does NOT equal fact, instead it equals somebodies perspective at that time, in those circumstances within that persons life, within their capacity. They may not be capable of seeing things differently or with kinder eyes....and that doesn’t make the thing they are criticising right or wrong...their criticism is simply an outward expression of their internal limitations.
However you perceive criticism, understand and learn to embrace it. It doesn’t have to be the thing that stops you from doing something different...instead it can help you in you path towards changing, learning and developing... #criticism #critic #criticalthinking #perspective #perspectiveshift #newperspectives #aristotle #change #avoidance #drkaurtherapy

Good luck to all those who are getting their GCSE results today... keep in mind that the new grading system is stressful for all... seek support from those who care for you and from those who are trained to help you think through the next steps...

For more inspiration please do watch this short film about Zion Clark, a 21 African-American wrestler born with no legs, given up for adoption by his parents and forced to go through several foster homes...only to come out of it all with the moto ‘no excuses’ ....
