Watched 'Fences' and the performances by Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are just stunning. Acting of the highest quality. I didn't know beforehand that both had won Tony awards for the stage version of August Wilson's play but can easily see why they did. Both were Oscar nominations with Davis winning the 'Best Supporting Actress' award. The film was Oscar nominated too.

I really like watching films at the Komedia - the cinema is comfortable and the cafe is good too. In the heart of the North Laines, it is well situated and is certainly one of my favourite cinema venues in Sussex.

User

My first beam back experience, love the double seats and beer, tea and cake what more do you need......Wolfworks was breathtaking, perfect venue for this intimate experience.

User

Love the 2 seater sofa option and extra leg room on all seats and taking in your drinks ( in glasses!) ’┐Į

User

I love this cinema, recently became a member. So comfortable. My only problem is films I want to see are always late at night or early in morning! Great choice of beer and wine too, great to be able to take a drink in with you, but not at 11 in the morning!

User

I had a fabulous experience. First time ever at the Duke of Yorks at Komedia and went to watch a magnificent movie: 'The Shape of Water'. Everything was perfect! Very ’┐Į

User

I choose the movies with subtitles and easier for me to understand because English is not my mother language. Comfortable sofa seats, great drinks at the bar and also during the movie. Thinking to buy a membership card ¤śŖ

User

Had a wonderful experience. The sound and picture quality of my movie was perfect. My seat was comfortable with perfect leg room and I enjoyed a beer with my movie. Keep up the screenings of alternative movies with a choice of screenings. It was fabulous for my friend and I to see a French cannibalism film at 15.45 on a Wednesday

User

Fabulous cinema - lovely clean facilities, excellent cosy and comfortable seating with ample leg room and friendly staff. Clear screen and great sound quality. The bar has a good choice of beverages, cakes and popcorn. It's great that frozen yogurt was available, but they had sold out of ice cream on a Friday night - Boo! The best part is being able to take your drink in with you to the screen in a glass - hooray for being treated like a grown up! A great cinema, but due to its location there is no parking directly associated with it, so it's more suitable for us locals on bus/foot/taxi. An expensive NCP is about a 2 minute walk away and there are a few disabled bays on surrounding roads. It's always my first choice of cinema out of the 4 in the local area. A sea of local pubs and restaurants await you on its doorstep, perfect!

User

Dukes at Komedia is a great place, small cinemas, great coffee or wine and I also enjoyed a tasty slice of lemon and poppy seed cake... Oh, the film was brilliant too ’┐Į

User

Consistently great service at Dukes at Komedia, everyone is polite and friendly. Comfortable sofa seats are available in both screens (although the normal seats are also comfortable) and the membership card is worth getting for the free tickets and discounts. Wide choice of films often not showing elsewhere. Thanks.

User

Can I just say how lovely it is to receive your post in the traditional snail mail. It's never spam, always informative to read and wonderfully presented. As someone whose post is few and only usually bills or bank statements. I miss receiving letters and most places are usually completely digitised (understandably so because your data base of members is no doubt huge). I just want to say I fully appreciate the time (money) and human hours it takes for someone to send out these little brochures to members :) xxxx

User

Booked the sofa and bought a bottle of wine at the bar to drink during the film. Super comfortable and great experience. No comparison to Odeon et al.

User

A really comfortable cinema.. a nice cosy bar with a good range of beers, wines and snacks. You can take your glass of wine or whatever in with you if you like. Not the cheapest but well worth getting membership, for discounted seats and drinks.

User

A great cinema with excellent seating, Hi Def screens and crisp sound. I was at the Blade Runner 2049 disaster a few months back, and it was bad, but that's one experience in an unbroken run of movies that have screened perfectly, in a friendly and well-run cinema....

User

Love both Dukes in Brighton. It's a real shame though that since the Cineworld takeover of Picturehouse the programming is becoming ever more mainstream :-(

Been a member for years but visiting less and less. Screenings of foreign/indies/smaller films being increasingly sidelined to 3D popcorn tosh. Either not being shown or getting only a few screenings at less popular times. This week a good example.... Ab Fab and Ghostbusters across the board. I want my old Picturehouses back.

User

Great cinema, very comfortable seats and nice bar. My only slight quibble is that since the Cineworld take over it was always obvious there was going to be some mainstream film creeping in, but it seems some weeks that emphasis has swung too much away from independent film sadly.

User

Busy, central location, so no parking but expensive car parks nearby. Venue itself has ticket counter and a *mini caf├®* downstairs, and main caf├® and two cinema screens upstairs, on first floor. Main caf├® serves variety of hot drinks and cakes/snacks. Small and cosy, always busy. Ladies and gents rooms on second floor, good hygiene standards. Lots of pubs and restaurants within 5-minute radius.

User

I like the set up, but since being taken over and getting a 'new improved' website that is anything but (in it's a huge step back) it's become a real chore getting tickets and checking status of Picturehouse membership. So many people have same gripe and they're done nothing about it which is pretty sad as it's letting the whole place down.

User

Over 2 hours into Blade Runner and the sound stops - we have to sit and watch it unfold for 10minutes in silence entirely compromising the film before finally it is stopped and then told it wont work we need to go but we can get a refund, no sign of any manager....beyond poor
