Eating out doesn't have to be cheating! You can still make healthy food choices at English's, just keep an eye out for our green 'Healthy Option' logo. It includes the delicious chilled cigar of chicken, feta, spicy peppers & guacamole starter and the sea reared trout, mung bean vermicelli, kimchi, miso broth for a main. Who said healthy eating had to be bland, eh?
What do squid, halibut, bass, tiger prawns, eel and salmon all have in common at English's? They're all organically farmed!

What an amazing little restaurant, the seafood was fantastic, service to boot, it made our Valentine's meal out together a memorable one. 💯% recommend and looking forward to a cheeky return to sample more of the menu a positive for Brighton. Thank you to the staff at English's
What a fantastic fish restaurant, a couple of people recommended this to me and it did not disappoint, I had the tempura, chilli oysters followed by the grilled Dover sole and I cannot praise both dishes enough, lovely! If you are ever in Brighton this restaurant is a must!
We went there for our first anniversary
17.00 hrs 24/04/18 on a friends recommendation
We found all the staff very welcoming on arrival, we could not wish for anything better food wine and service, I ordered something I wasn't to sure of then found I did not like the sauce I told the waitress they soon appeared with 3 different sauces wow! I had the mushroom sauce My wife and I eat a many fish restaurants in London (Caprice holdings) and I would put them up there with them ,so many thanks to all the staff for a very pleasant and memorable afternoon.
Regards Vincent Graves and Georgina Graves
P.S.see you soon
We booked a table for four on a Friday evening at 8pm. Arrived are table was ready and are coats were taken. The service from arriving to leaving was excellent and the food was delicious. We all had different starters and different main dishes with various side dishes and they were all perfect. Full of flavour and well presented. We had the house wine and again a very nice wine. Whilst the cost is slightly high for the service and quality you receive it is justified. Do try just ensure you book as its a popular restaraunt.
We ate there on Saturday night, lovely food, wine & service, we had the set menu very reasonably priced, also ordered oysters, lovely evening sitting outside.
Great banter with the staff, we even bought one of the aprons! Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will definitely visit again.
Passed this restaurant and checked the menu twice only to find it was fully booked, this tells you how good it is! Managed to book a table and we were not disappointed. The staff were attentive and paid attention to my allergy, advising the chef and drawing my attention to recommended dishes and ones to avoid (which is a first for me) Both my husband and I rate this as one if the best meals we have had (and there's been a few) CANNOT recommend this this place enough. Very impressed
Amazing the gluten free fish and chips!!!!!! The best place!!!
All the courses were delicious. The potted shrimp was sublime. We had the oysters, followed by a platter and tune steak. The recommended wine was spot on and service excellent. Perhaps one thing can be improved is the outside heating. Other than that, a lovely time.
A gem of a find in The Lanes. Best Bouillabaise ever. Oysters were fabulous and the service impeccable.
Went for birthday celebrations. Loved the food and service. Definitely wasn’t what I was expecting as the menu was more interesting and adventurous than I thought. Only slight aside was the waitress who heavily sighed at one point and the stairs. I’d recommend you check where you’re sitting if you are with any elderly or others who may struggle with stairs which are quite tight to go up. Otherwise fab so enjoy.
Very good, they were very friendly and politely put up with my love for potted shrimps and crab despite much more glamorous offerings on the menu. Bit expensive but it has the kudos of being the oldest and recommendations of famous chefs to justify it maybe. I'm sure the fish dishes would have been extremely good.
Very good indeed. Thoroughly recommended for a treat.
Squid & mussels as starters were both very good. Fish & chips were above average but nothing special. Ditto the creme brûlée. But the service was grim. Our waitress tried hard but it was slow, slow, slow and seemed very disorganised. Needs a good md to sharpen things up if they actually care about service but I suspect they don't. A shame
Service was very good, attentive, polite . Had a Tuna Tartare to start, sadly bulked up with everything else and not a lot of Tuna, did taste nice though, Sea bass moist on inside crispy skin, all nice really more tuna and I would have given a 5.
Just moved to Brighton from Malta, but actually I'm a spanish lover or good quality food, service and atmosphere. I must say this place could become my sunday lunch spot in Brighton. I have the feeling that I came and I aced it on the first shot!!. Personally I'm not an oyster lover (I keep on trying though), but coming originally from Galicia (northwest of Spain) I must say that seafood lovers must visit this place, as I observed the quality of the dishes and how people enjoyed them on tables next to me. Above all, since it was only my first visit and I need to taste more things on the menu, I must say the wine list and service were outstanding, location ideal, and the quality and presentation of food worth it a weekly date ... as if you would want to fall in love slowly. Just would like to add that probably might deserve 5 stars, however on a first visit .. I'm normally that enthusiastic ever ... let's see.
Beautiful weather, outside table in busy piazza of restaurants, cool jazz quartet busking with good vocalist doing Ella songs. Excellent seafood and wine with good service and cosmopolitan clientele for people watchers. What more could you ask?
Booked a table for 3 in advance via bookatable. This was our second visit (last one was in June of this year). Normally choose to dine here for special occasions. It was a Birthday celebration in June. Service was good. Food good and even though it is our second visit we still felt it was over priced. When booked had informed that we are coming to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I know they knew because called the day before to check table booking and they confirmed at the time the purpose of our visit. No one even wished us once or did anything special. A bit disappointing :-( . Why ask the purpose of visit when it does not matter to you?
What a disappointment!!
We first had a celebratory meal here for our first wedding anniversary although not a cheap place we both had a platter to share for starter and the main meal including lobster. We were very impressed the food was plentiful and a great variety and the service was great.
However this time around what has happened..?? the starter platter was tiny compared to last time and disappointing then came the main platter to share including lobster.. Again a fraction of the size of what we were used to and silly things baring in mind it was a platter for two it came with 3 x prawns 3 scallops ? The sea bass was so tiny it was not really for sharing. I actually left hungry and we are not big eaters either. Apart from the gentleman that greeted us who was very polite and helpful the table service was not . On a whole very disappointing. My father is planning on booking for my mothers 70th which I do not think it will happen now. Such a shame this place was great and really hope it will be again.
