Again another busy day at North weald mpd. The arrival of a bubble car 55033 for our DMU event this weekend fresh from her tyre turning at Ilford. Lord Phil has had her cylinder castings uncovered within her smokebox for a leak which was found to be a steam oil feed pipe union fracture, and then lastly little lsabel saw her Ashpan removed for firebox access and a washout.

Met 1 washout completed today ready for another weekend of work. Thanks Paul and Luke.

Today's job, scraping several decades of oil and muck off the 47's engine room floor, you don't stay clean working on diesels. M. Drew.

The exhaust silencer from 47635 had to be cut open to allow access to the internal rot. After plenty of cleaning back a new internal plate was fabricated and fixed. The outer skin was then renewed. Next job is to manufacture an exhaust cover to prevent water/rain entering the silencer when loco is not in use and stopping this from happening again. Thank you to all the guys at the MPD for their assistance.

Update on the repairs that are being carried out on 47635. New sections of inner skin welded into place and the new outer skin will be finished this week. This is the pocket that the exhaust silencer sits in.

Lord Phil has been out on a quick test run today after big end bearing adjustments. Enjoy Luke Knott video.

Lastest news from North Weald MPD, the 47 is making steps forward with her exhaust box as show in photo with lots of replacement plate, plus we have decided it's time to fit the new replacement Met1 firehole door before it completely falls apart. As shown.

Progress being made on our Class 47 Jimmy Milne. Plasma cutting out the rot, welding in new steel and hand fabricating the new skins. All 4 cab doors need to be done, now just 3 left to do next week and then the new wood floor to fit.

Really good insight into what goes on behind the scenes, you don't realise how much hard work goes into keeping a Heritage Railway running......

User

I really love this railway, the staff are really friendly & helpful, the steam engines are fab, and they have some lovely coaches, soo much more comfortable than modern trains!!. The stations are fantastically preserved in GER & LNER colours and again look so much better than modern stations!.. I hope they can get a station at Epping because that would enable then to offer the locals a great train service in to London again.

How did you manage to get Santa to take a day off from the North Pole to meet the children. He is wonderful and has such a fantastic way with the little ones which is why I know he is the real thing.

Loved Scrooge and the Grinch too.

User
