*08 Muharram 1440* *18 September 2018* *Tuesday يوم الثلاثاء*
Hadhrat Abu Qataadah (رضي الله عنه) reports:
... Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) was asked regarding (the virtue of) fasting on the Day of `Aashuraa (tenth of Muharram).
Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) replied:
“It (fasting on the Day of `Aashuraa) wipes out the sins of the past year.” *(مسلم)*
Rasulullah صلى الله عليه و سلم further advised keeping an additional fast a day before or after the 10th as the Jews fasted on the 10th of Muharram only. It was necessary that Muslims be distinct from the practice of non-Muslims.
*Aashura Fast:* *1)* 9, 10 Muharram = 19, 20 September (Wed/Thur). *OR* *2)* 10, 11 Muharram = 20, 21 September. (Thur/Fri)
