The majority of these posts seem to be about smokers having a cigarette at the entrance/entrances of the shopping centre.

Smokers can no longer sit in a bar or cafe and enjoy a cigarette. Now they have to stand outside and some of you are saying there should be a smoking Hut? Where exactly?

In the middle of the car park!!!

The review you write is suppose to be about the great shops, friendly staff, choice, and vibrant atmosphere..... I do enjoy shopping at the Galleries and just for the record...I DO NOT SMOKE.....

User

Regular visitor. Good range of shops. Convenient parking. Places to eat and drink without breaking the bank. All in all a good place to shop. If ya don't like it bugger off somewhere else.

User

Question: the people on here who write detrimental things about it, why don't they shop somewhere else 😡. I like to shop there, can usually find what I want, lots of places to eat, it's indoors so can shop no matter the weather and free parking, suits me fine. I do however agree with others about the smokers near the entrances not being good for people walking through to get in but doesn't detract from the fact it's a great little shopping centre.

User

I like to have a look around as it has some nice shops.. but what puts me off is smokers at the entrances. This is so off putting having to breath in as you go in ... not good at all. They need a place like a shelter away from doors . Its a very bad first impression and I know a lot of people won't go because of it.

User

I like shopping there but agree about the smoking at the entrances. You have to hold your breath to get past them. I love Costa and always have a coffee there before going home. You can usually get what you want without having to go into Newcastle. Sainsbury cafe is OK too.

User

I don't like shopping but i love to shop here. I can always find what I want and it's under cover great places to have a cuppa and a chat and chill. My favourite place is the fish shop in the mall great meals at competitive prices. Free car parking all in all a fine place to shop

User

Good shopping centre.I can only assume that those who are complaining about the smokers at the entrances never visited the Galleries before it became smoke free? I mean how on earth did these people manage to cope in the Galleries when you used to be able to smoke inside but can't manage to walk through a bit of smoke now when people smoke outside the entrances

The cafe bit seats are very poor needs it tidying up a bit the chinese food is the only good clean decent food other 2 leave a lot to be desired the sunday dinner one omg we hacve sat there watching them cook meals their poking on with there hair scratching their faces licking their fingers all this whilst making dinners & not washing their hands disgusting, overall i like all the shops i like going to poundworld as they havent got a one where i live & the bag stall

Near sainsburys is good too lovely handbags & love asda for their reasonable prices.

User

It’s not a bad place get a couple of better shops in and it be a great little place but I was going to give it 4 stars but them speed bumps you have put in up by Asda are a joke

User

I find the Galleries ok to shop use the banks . Only thing I object to is , although there is a law about smoking inside . People seem to think that blocking door ways smoking at the doors is ok .

Myself I don't object to people smoking it's up to the individual . But having to take children through the smoke screen is not nice .

People with bad chest suffer . Clear smoking areas should be marked supposed to be so many meters away from doors .

User

Can get everything i need at the galleries, but more needs to be done about parking on double yellows on the ramp, and people without badges using disabled bays (which accounts for about 80% of spaces used!) The new speed bumps on the exit ramp, while i agree they are necessary, are far too steep!

User

packed hardly anywhere to sit down unless you go into a Cafe. toilets are upstairs so not very disabled friendly even tho there is a ramp at one end unfortunately it is the other end of the Galleries, smokers are allowed to smoke right outside the doors. not my favorite place to shop

User

Full of chavs too many smelly food places and it's like maze....and don't get me started on the people smoking at the entrances and exits....gross....I don't go there as a rule there only went to pick something up from argos....metrocentre is far superior

User

What a joke.

I've had acid trips that have made more sense than this Labyrinth

On Tuesday 10th April I got a taxi to the galleries to trade in my iMac to cex. I got at the galleries at around 2:10 and when I came in the doors at the entrance of the galleries I ended up slipping on the floor. I had a cut on my left foot but no other cuts anywhere. The iMac I was going to trade in at cex has a crack on top of the screen so cex could not trade it in. I am now down £275 because I could not trade in the iMac because of the crack screen. The next day my legs and arms started hurting me because I slipped the day before. I rang them 2 days after I slipped to find out about what they would do about me slipping because I was down £275. I also asked them about what they seen on cctv and they said that they could not tell me. They also did not tell me what insurance they are with. I am really unhappy with the services I received because I thought they would help me more. I don’t think they taking me seriously because I got a disability eg Autism. I really wanted to get this problem sorted out but it left me stressed for a week now.

If you are going to have 'familt' bays designated at least enforce it. When trying to report someone for this today I was informed that there's 'nothing you can do' therefore in future I will deal with the situation myself.

If I drop a pebble into the middle of a lake, ripples will spread out for some distance and then the water will appear to be still again. However, the energy continues to dissipate in the direction of the shore for a long time and a long way past the point where it can be easily observed. Each interaction that you have with other people, spreads out, away from you in a way that you will never notice and would be immeasurably difficult to follow. Occasionally, it is to be hoped, being a force for some kind of social change, can make a difference. One black woman sitting in a part of a bus is segregated for use solely by white people, wasn't the original and the sole cause of the American civil rights movement, but it is something that has stuck in the memory of a good many people. Being arrested and getting a criminal record for doing something like this, can ultimately turn out to be something that other people regard as a singular accolade, far from a mark against you, as the years unfold and social attitudes change.

Banging a few heads together because you've been treated badly, for no better reason than living with a severe sensory loss, may not see anything more than quite small beer. As blind people, we all know just how much thought is given to the fact that we are around and thus, fairly obvious needs and considerations are never even reflected upon. If you like, it's the same old song, when people realise that what they have been doing/not doing for years, has a side to it that is unmistakably unacceptable, needed changing all those years ago, nobody thought it was necessary and so nothing got done. Walking into the Washington Galleries shopping centre, this morning, I damn near fell over another one of those warning signs that tells you of a risk of falling on the slippery floor that lies ahead. Typically, these are stood on flooring that is in the process of being/have just been washed and then just left there for the whole day. Nobody ever goes back, collects up the signs and puts them away. The signs themselves are yellow and you've only got to stand these on flooring that is either yellow itself for some lighter shade of any other colour and they will blend in, if you cannot see your way ahead all that clearly. It's a fairly obvious hazard for somebody living with a severe sight impairment and one that is nearly always overlooked entirely by those people whose job it is to manage open public spaces of this kind!

I'm local to the galleries and like most of us who live close.... I hate the place with a passion.

There is a selection of shops but would like to see some of the big names come to the galleries ( Primark, HMV, Debenhams ect) as well as a cash machine on the lower level centrally apposed to upstairs or outside and another cash machine in the retail park.
