Great Fosters

About Great Fosters

Built as a Royal Hunting Lodge in 1550, Great Fosters is an AA 4 red star Country House Hotel set in 50 acres of gardens with 43 bedrooms & two restaurants

Great Fosters Description

Great Fosters is a fine example of Elizabethan architecture set amongst 50 acres of stunning formal gardens and parkland. Probably built as a Royal hunting lodge in 1550 it is now a prestigious 43 bedroomed hotel with two restaurants, The Estate Grill and The Tudor Room at Great Fosters. The Estate Grill is a contemporary restaurant providing locally sourced, more ingredient led food whilst being surrounded by the best of British art. The Tudor Room at Great Fosters is a more sophisticated dining experience with the intimacy of 24 covers and offers a series of tasting menus designed by Head Chef, Douglas Balish.

This imposing property has retained many original features including Jacobean fireplaces and mullioned windows and the breath taking grounds feature a circular sunken rose garden, wisteria-clad bridge over a Saxon moat, a lake and outdoor heated swimming pool. The hotel is popular for weddings, meetings and events, dining and romantic breaks and offers a unique luxurious retreat located minutes from the M3 and M25, and conveniently close to Heathrow and London.

Wonderful experience, plenty of attention to detail, 5 of us attended the Mother’s Day afternoon tea and my 6 & 8 year old sons can’t wait to come back! Highly recommend

When we decided to get married, it had to be Great Fosters, and they didn’t disappoint, absolutely recommend them. A special shout out to Holly for being patient with me .

This is one of my all time favourite places, I have been here many times for afternoon tea, every year for their Taste of Christmas event, for 3 wedding receptions excluding my own, and just for a special lunch, so I think it’s safe to say I love this place

What can you say? There is nothing to fault. We had afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. The table was ready for us when we arrived, beautifully set in front of the fire. This is a stunning building and so relaxing . The food and service was excellent and we didn't feel rushed in any way. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Great Fosters..

We stayed at Great Fosters having had afternoon tea early in the day followed by dinner at the grill in the evening. My husband and I were there to celebrate both his birthday and an early anniversary treat having got married at Great Fosters 14 years previous. Wow it still blew me away with its beauty and history! Afternoon tea was fabulous and the staff were very attentive. We then checked in and received a card, nice touch. Then on arrival for dinner staff made us feel very special with a complimentary glass of champers and celebration sweet at the end to congratulate us. What a fabulous stay, I cannot wait to return and shall not leave it sooooo long next time. Thank you for making it special for us it was a great surprise for my husband too as he did not know where we were staying until we drove in.

The scones were my favourite warm with cream and jam one plain one Sultana and there were one of each for all of us. It was first visit and would happily visit again

I was a guest for afternoon tea which was excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly without encroaching. We were offered far more than we could eat and were delighted when the staff offered to box up our leftovers so that we could take them with us to enjoy later!

I brought my mother and father in law, my mother, and my grandmother here for afternoon tea on 23rd December. We had a wheelchair user within our group, and were shown by a member of staff to the accessible entrance, and then given a beautiful table right by a roaring log fire. From the very beginning the staff could not do enough for us, they were incredibly helpful and attentive all throughout our visit. Our waiter Miguel was fantastic. He explained all of the different menu options to us, and once we had chosen our drinks everything was brought out quickly. We were offered more sandwiches, which we of course accepted! I would highly recommend the basil bread with cucumber and cream cheese filling. Once we had eaten huge amounts of sandwiches, out came the cakes. Glorious cakes, so much variety, and all baked to perfection. We left extremely full, but very happy. I would highly recommend this place for a very classy afternoon tea in a gorgeous location steeped in history.

I would also like to say a big thankyou to the staff at Great Fosters for being so accommodating to my mother in law, who is in a wheelchair. It's so appreciated to go somewhere that not only has disabled access, but also a place that has staff who are more than willing to assist wherever possible. Merry Christmas to you all at Great Fosters

Great house, gardens and the afternoon tea was excellent, very filling and a great selection. We walked round the grounds after and had a wonderful afternoon. The staff were excellent will definitely come again!

User

Great food, top service but best of all the surroundings. Warm days in the garden and on the patio, cold days in front of the amazing fireplace in the reception hall. I’ve been going 3-4 times a year for the past 30 years.

Great Fosters is my favorite hotel in Surrey. I was married there in 1989 and return whenever possible. My recent stay was one of my best. I had one of the best meals I've had anywhere in the Tudor Room, and they catered for a gluten-free diet. I looked out of my window to see the boxwood maze covered in snow. We had tea by a crackling fire. Wonderful.

User

Great Fosters being one of our favourite get aways, had dinner at the Estate Grill on Thursday and stayed the night. We got the charming Duke of Wellington’s mini Suite. It was another enjoyable meal and memorable event recorded in my diary.

Enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea with a friend, and the staff was very helpful and our waiter Casper was wonderful. The food was better than expected and plenty of it, so our husbands were pleased to receive some cake we brought home with us. Have recommended to everyone I know that enjoy's afternoon tea in perfect surroundings. Will be returning in the better weather to walk around the garden.

Afternoon tea at Great Fosters was amazing. The building and grounds are absolutely stunning. Beware that prices are very steep, expect a bottle of wine to start from £40 and a single vodka was £9.50.
