Well what could I say about this place, well it was the first time me and my family had visited here and what a place all the quirkiness of the place just added to the whole mystical adventure of leading up to xmas. The children were full of energy and excitement and so was me and the misses, when we got to see Santa he was the best Santa I've every had the pleasure of meeting what a guy he deserves a medal. The whole adventure was just that and set in the most tranquil Christmassy setting with magical woods and enchanted atmosphere. Thank you groombridge for a truly wonderful time and experience you get first prize from me and I will return next year to see the place in summer as well as in the xmas to come well done guys great job

User

We went to see Santa Claus today and he was brilliant. He was really good with the kids. I can honestly say that he was the best Santa Claus that I have ever taken my children to see. It was worth going just for that but there was so much more to do. Making reindeer food, walking through the enchanted forest being entertained by the elf doing his magic tricks and to top it all off, great cafe with hot chocolate. We will definitely be recommending to our friends.

User

We took our three children to the Christmas event yesterday and we all absolutely loved it. Fun crafts that were all free including making Reindeer food which our children loved. The elves were brilliant and doing magic tricks on the children which even left us wondering how they done it! Father Christmas was fantastic and the best we have ever seen by far, plenty of time spent with the children which made the whole experience very personal. The whole day was magical. A lovely family day out and worth a visit. Thank you Groombridge Place we are looking forward to returning again soon.

User

We had an AMAZING day at Groomsbridge on Friday with the Wizard of Oz event. We went for my son's 8th birthday and the cast from the event made his day extra special by individually wishing him a happy birthday, and singing to him.

The cast were so good with all the kids (adults too) staying in character all day and incredible funny.

Great entertainment. As for Groomsbridge itself, such a beautiful place with lots to see and do for the little kids to big kids including the adults! Shall defiantly be visiting again !!

User

An amazing day my daughter said

‘this is the best day ever and to see wizard of oz was a bonus ‘ aged12 definitely be going again xx

User

Absolutely love this place! My family and I have been coming for years and often visit 3+ times during the summer for the day. We have just been to our first Halloween event and it was very good ! My only complaint is they had run out of milk and couldn't make me a hot chocolate very enjoyable evening and I look forward to the summer when we will definitely be visiting again with our picnic !

User

We went to Groombridge on Tuesday with our 8 & 5 year old. I was a bit concerned after reading some terrible reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. We thought the gardens were lovely and well maintained and couldn't see any signs of neglect like I'd read about in some of the reviews. My children were mesmerised by the Peter Pan show and enjoyed meeting the characters. We thought the man playing the crocodile was particularly good. They also loved playing in the forest and building dens. Children didn't want to leave which is always a sign of a great day! We'll definitely visit again but next time we'll bring a picnic. The choice of sandwiches was poor and they were not cheap.

User

We went on 3rd December, and had a really great time. The sleigh at the entrance was great for the kids and taking pictures, and the fun and warm welcome by the elf was also brilliant. His magic tricks were really good too! The little ones enjoyed making the reindeer food, running through the gardens, and doing the 'find jack frost trail'. The wishing tree area was really beautiful and magical. Only a couple of suggestions for improvement would be:

1) not enough seating in cafe area plus other hot food in addition to the jacket potatoes would have been a nice option (just with it being quite chilly now!)

2) decorations in cafe area could have been so much more... a few balloons and paper snowflakes didn't exactly have the wow factor... only speaking from experience of when we went to a Halloween event of yours last year, the cafe had so much going on, everywhere you looked something caught your eye and was fantastic.

3) sprinkles in tins for reindeer food could have been topped up, half didn't much left in them and the others were empty.

All only minor points really but I'd definitely have given 5 stars if they'd been done. Overall though, brilliant day and will definitely come back again.

User

Groombridge is a beautiful place to really experience Autumn. The view of the surrounding countryside is stunning from high up on the treetop walk and the kids loved the mega swings and all the activities in the woods. The cafe does need a revamp in terms of its offer but hopefully this is on the agenda for this countryside treasure.

User

We paid to go around groombridge place then for the event 'the family rave'. We paid a lot of money in total for 2 adults and 4 children then still had to pay over £10 for a boat ride that wasn't worth the money. After a lot of walking and a few things out of use we went to the family rave which in my opinion was totally falsely advertised! The only thing good was the craft tables, the rest of it wasn't worth the 1hour trip we made to get there and the 80 odd pounds we spent on the whole thing.

User

My sister and I have bringing our children here for many years but not in the last 3 and when we can last week we were deeply disappointed to see that the up keep of the different sections in the woods haven't been up kept. It didn't look exciting for the children and the so sad to see the Vine Yard garden pretty much dead! It used to look so pretty it made you want to run down it.

The kids climbing attraction right at the top of the woods has panels missing on the walk round on it so dangerous for kiddies!!

However the formal gardens were lovely as usual and the Peter Pan great were fun.

Won't be back in a hurry

I would like to hear why it has been left to ruin and what is going to be done about all the other bad reviews people have left.

Will the 'Enchanted Forest' become something special again?

User

I visited Groombridge Place about 10 years ago & I loved it. I couldn't wait to take my children to swing on all the giant swings & see the beautiful pools full of fish, see the pigs roaming about & all the quirky hidden things along the way round the forest.

I found it very tired & was a little disappointed to say the least. There were hardly any swings, there were parts of the adventure trail with missing steps & railings. Where are the pigs? Or anything enchanted? & the wishing pool, no fish to feed - could barely see the water.

However, my children loved it nevertheless - which is all that mattered on the day.

User

We visited your attraction today 29th of October and were very disappointed, it cost us £78.00 entrance fee which included the price of the boat ride. We had been looking forward to the visit as we had been before several years ago.To say we were dissapointed is an understatement several of the places were rundown and the pools and water features were non existent or murky and stagnant looking ! Some of the paths and fencing were in disrepair. Tree fern valley was a shambles half of the tree ferns were dead and falling over as we're the gunnera and other plants ! The tree swings were also dissapointing only two as one was out of commission. The boat ride was also advertised as a ghostly boat ride which it was not, no different to normal

And the beer tent and street food was one tent with a few bottles of beer and no food.

So the whole experience was definitely not as expected . Looking at your Facebook page after our visit I can see I am not the only one to have issues with your attraction ! If I had read the other posts first I would definitely not have bothered to visit especially considering the price and being charged extra as it was an event day ( what events) especially as my family were visiting from Manchester.

The only good thing to say was the actor's did a good job shame about the rest.

I hope to receive a response from you.

Dear Manager and Owner

I would like to make a formal complaint and would like an outcome.

I have been so looking forward to coming to Groombridge Place after hearing and reading so much about it and the beautiful the pictures shown online! I visited your Groombridge Place on Sunday 28th August paid £30 entrance plus £10 for archery. The archery and the men who run it was the only good thing about our day there they were very polite and thorough an excellent service and well enjoyed the experience.

The formal gardens were all over grown and not maintained, with broken pots and no fountains the maze was awful and full of mud and very wet. All the lakes and ponds were full of rubbish and dirty. The boat looked like it was falling apart and unsafe and would cost an extra £2.50 each way!!!

The attractions are all tired and falling apart or missing ie - serpents lair disgusting what is that about! dinosaur nest not even there! The romany camp tatty old caravans, teepees well 2 of them filthy unsafe no real effort there. The map didn't make sense, the swings were only half there, the ropes are so old and are horrendously dirty, the starting points all worn out and unsafe. Wooden steps leading down all uneven broken and unsafe. The wishing pool yea wishing there was water in it, a magical enchanted forest theme REALLY! The gift shop was horrendously expensive and full of alot of cheap nasty tack for children. The cafe was scruffy and dirty with food and cakes all uncovered and again very expensive the young staff you have there should take credit as most were polite and very good but they are being left to run the show without the owner there not even a general manager. I am so upset and will be telling others my findings and will not be happy to return.

I look forward to hearing from you

Came for the halloween scream event. Absolute rubbish waited around 45 mins for the boat because you can't walk down. Advertised as beer tent champagne bar lively atmosphere and firepits at crusoes world there was one tent with a few drinks at the main entrance there was no atmosphere could have been so much better no way would you want to stay till 1am we drove 40 mins to come here and couldn't be any more disappointed. Wrongly advertised

User

We visited Groombridge Place Sunday 30th Oct, arrived at 12:00 expecting to see all that was advertised, we joked that with the fog it should be a fab atmosphere!

We walk through to see cobwebs strung over a row of bushes, a gazebo with some literally sad and bored looking person (not even dressed up for Halloween) waiting to seek a variety of fizzy drinks and a cold and closed BBQ behind him! Other then him and the boat driver there was no one about not even Casper!!!

Hey ho, we continued to walk along the little canal/ stream!!

There were no birds of prey, yes there were shows at the climbing frame at the end of the walkway (credit due to the actors, they were quiet gd)

All the wicca creations if standing are in awful condition and the polygon shaped swing is more rickety and sways with the kids swinging - dispute the poor attempt to stabilise them with a two foot bit of wood nailed to the uprights!

We continued to walk round the site, some of the walkway barrier uprights were not upright and laid attached to the rope across the ground swaying when people touched the attached rope ""((this is a tripping and safety hazard))""

Got back to the cafe, expecting to get the 3 kids a light lunch!! Omg what a site, 90% of tables full and covered of dirty plates! (I have pictures and will be sending in a complaint with these shortly!)

The hot food serving counter closed and cleaned up (AT 2pm - you close at 5pm) we were offered an old possibly what couldn't be sold, jacket potato or some yellow soup with no lid covering it) what else was on offer- choice 2x diff flavours crisps, chocolate and a Victoria sponge!

The place was falling apart a year ago when we last visited but to see it continue to fall apart is heart breaking!

This place has so much potential and from what I saw an extremely disappointing day out!!! Would I recommend this to anyone? No- your better off going to more park for the day with a picnic!

User

Visited today for the first time, we went for a friends birthday.

I was not impressed at all, I paid £42 to get in with my 6 and 3 year old. There was no decorations really anywhere, the toilets were disgusting and the most disappointing thing of all was the main show, our children were right at the front but couldn’t hear a thing through loads of children running around all around the actors and on the climbing area where the show was. We left early as the and complained to the manager! Was a waste of money, gutted as I had heard good thinking about the place.

User

I have been waiting for Groombridge place to contact me since I visited on the 15th August with my children. The day we visited we stopped for ice cream at the cafe and sat outside. Here my 2 year old was approached by an aggressive peacock which jumped up at him and clawed him in the face, just missing his eye. He was knocked hard to the ground and smacked his head on the concrete. The staff came out to see what had happened and they were concerned and I was grateful that they let me use the phone as they advised I called 111 NHS. A lovely lady who worked there helped me calm my son down as there was a lot of bloody pouring from his face and he was obviously very frightened. NHS help line advised me to seek medical attention as my son did receive a head injury and wanted to check the cut he received from the birds claws. My son did become sleepy so I was concerned. I was told that this was not the first time the peacocks had tried to attack children, a dad came up to me and said the bird had gone for his daughter and a previous time a school child was nearly attacked.

I emailed Groombridge and explained what had happened, I also did thank the lady who helped me look after my son and in my email expressed my concerns and wondered what they propsed to do. Having not heard from them for nearly a month I called to see if they had received my email to be told they had and they were sorry they had not got in contact but the owners were away but I would hear from them. Still no contact, so I send another email, this was also ignored. I called them again to yet get another apology and the manager was not there but they reassured me they will be in contact. Once again absolutely nothing from them apart from an email about the Halloween event!! I can not believe the poor customer services from this place. I have sent 2 emails and called twice now! I think it is a disgrace that after such an incident they don't have the manners to respond to me. It was a worrying time for me when my son was attacked and I was told to keep a close eye on him, and now he has a scar by his eye. It seems to me as long as they are taking your money they don't care. The customer services is an absolute disgrace. For them to not even bother to reply back to me with an apology astounds me.

Having visited 8 years ago we had been looking forward to bringing our 3 girls back to what we had thought would be a magical adventure. Our only family day out over the summer holidays due to farming we thought we would enjoy lunch as well. Well what a huge disappointment! The gardens where half hearted attempts, over grown and tired, every where needed a good lick of paint and fix up, animals and peacocks, well there where a couple about. Went to have lunch only to be informed that they don't do hot food in the low season, this is not mentioned on the website I had checked the day before (the websites a piece of false advertisement too!). For £30 the girls had a lunch box each, us a pice of cake and drink, we certainly weren't paying £4 for a cheese and pickle sandwich in a plastic container. If I had known I could have done an amazing picnic for that price! We then went on the boat which only went in reverse as the other engine had just blown up, I assume the other boat doesn't work at all. Into the forest which was full of falling apart play equipment, rotting off at ground level, a health and safety nightmare in the making! What a shame you have let the gypsy caravans just rot away and the vineyard is half dead, everything needs money and time spent on it before it's all lost forever. It was and could still be a beautiful magical adventure but we have been left feeling very disappointed at spending £80 on visiting a dump. We never complain about any thing but feel so thoroughly ripped off we felt we needed to. I look toward to your response!

Wrongly advertised
