About Grove Ferry Inn

Sat on the banks of the Great River Stour our beautiful Georgian Inn serves breakfast, an all day menu, dinner, drinks & snacks. Come & relax.

Grove Ferry Inn Description

Ah, the countryside. Is there anything better?

Nestling on the bank of the Great Stour River is the Grove Ferry Pub. Here, you can ignore the rest of the world and just relax ŌĆō whatever the season, thereŌĆÖs so much to explore youŌĆÖre bound to forget your worries.

Start by saying hi to the house animals; Sam, Bilbo and Pickle the pig or Pedro the golden pheasant ŌĆō you can even join in on the morning routine of collecting fresh eggs from the ŌĆśchicksŌĆÖ. ThereŌĆÖs a HUUUUUUUGE garden where they regularly soak up the sun, we suggest you join in!

Inside is a haven of food and drink; the grub is fresh, locally sourced and delicious ŌĆō perfected British classics with a quirky twist or two. The Sunday roast is a speciality, so make sure you ring up and book before you pop in or you might miss out! And the drink? Well, how does lavender-infused cocktails (Grove Ferry used to be a lavender farm! ), a cask ale room and delicious vino sound?

The pub is the epitome of cosy country style and thereŌĆÖs plenty more: a boathouse (wedding parties, birthdays, anniversaries or just a big ŌĆśole bashŌĆ”if these walls could speak! ), a terrace overlooking the river, an outside bar, a BnB with six boutique bedrooms upstairs, fireplaces, cosy sofas, lots of dining space and a friendly team. If youŌĆÖre staying for the weekend, you can also go kayaking, hiking on the Nature Reserve across the road or visit the nearby villages.

Like we said, is there anything better than the countryside? Ssssh, donŌĆÖt tell the city folk, theyŌĆÖll all come running (itŌĆÖs just an hour from KingŌĆÖs Cross! ).

Evening folks, just a quick post to say we are closed tomorrow (Monday) & re-open at 3pm on Tuesday.
Whilst there is a lot of noise about how lots of pubs are struggling, we've had one of the BEST YEARS EVER & we're celebrating with a staff away day & party.
It's thanks to our AMAZING customers that we are having great success, but our pubs wouldn't be our pubs without our fab team & tomorrow we are celebrating them all.

We stayed in the Gooseberry room & absolutely loved it: Vintage, clean & tidy - perfect for the 3 of us.

All of the staff throughout our stay were welcoming, friendly, kind & relaxed.

All of the food we ate was delicious & well presented & the Prix Fixe Menu we ate from in the evening was excellent value.

The beer garden is spacious & in a beautiful setting & we had great fun playing table tennis on the equipment provided.

The general ambience of the place is so warming & we were lucky with the great weather to make the most of outside but I imagine in winter it's so cosy & homely.

We loved it & I'm sure we will revisit. Thanks for a great stay!!

User

We had a lovely day, we hired from Canoe Wild and had a couple of hours on the river then stopped for lunch, staff were busy but very efficient and the food was lovely!

User

Visiting from the Netherlands my friends took me here. Need to eat gluten free and was extremely suprised on the amount of options available to eat. Shared the Fish & chips and the messy hog burger. Honestly never had anything like it! Delicious!! Will go back whenever I am over here for sure ’┐Į’┐Į’┐Į

On th 27th of may 2017 we had our wedding reception at the grove ferry so today we went there for a meal to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary the was lovely and the staff where very friendly it was nice to go back and see the changes xx

User

Lovely afternoon. Regularly come here always polite staff and delicious food. My only regret is that the poor pigs are being forced to be uprooted. Seem perfectly happy and very much loved to me.

User

We booked a table for 12 people here on mothers day. I have to say we really enjoyed it. It is a lovely place to bring your family with your young children as the staff were very welcoming and interacted with us well. They had plenty of staff serving which was great the setting was very well presented. The food was absolutely delicious, I don't think I have had a roast dinner out that I have enjoyed as much as a home cooked one in a long time so it was a pleasant surprise. We have eaten here a couple of times before and have never had a bad meal. Will be back soon x

User

Lovely location . We popped in on our way from Canterbury and sat outside. We had 2 burgers that were nice however despite having a couple of staff around the tables outside had lots of empty glasses - obviously no one bothered to collect them for hours.. and not because it was busy as it was a Wed afternoon, between lunch and dinner time with only a handful of people, who were all sitting outside on the sun.. no one inside so no idea what kept them ŌĆśbusyŌĆÖ

User

Had a very nice Sunday lunch. It was very busy as it was MotherŌĆÖs Day but the service was pretty quick considering and the food very good and filling. The staff were all friendly and although there was a discrepancy with the final bill this was rectified with no hassle. We shall look forward to returning.

User

First trip here with our newborn (coming from Cheltenham!) and staff couldn't have been more helpful. I requested a quiet table and was placed at the back of the indoors in the corner with a lovely view over the river. Food was good and staff were friendly and attentive to our needs, even sterilizing our travel bottles to help us. Thank you Grove Ferry Inn.

User

The food was lovely some of the staff were lovely however had to wait a long time between main and dessert and we booked s table and when we got in no one to greet us overall the quality of the food was lovely

User

Rather disappointed that despite booking, pre ordering and arriving on time, we waited half an hour for our food to arrive. When it did it was poor quality and over priced. Poor selection of wine and prosecco at ┬Ż30 a bottle!?! Have emailed feedback and had no reply so they clearly arenŌĆÖt interested. Our group of 23 wonŌĆÖt be returning.

User

none of us enjoyed are meals. manners of the staff not great they didn't seem to be bothered with what the customers want its like she done it so it's tuff. the only member of staff that was nice was the lady feeding the pigs she was lovely and kind to all of us and allowed my son to feed the pigs. wont be returning

User

We stopped for Sunday lunch yesterday with some friends. Sadly it was disappointing. I haven't been to this pub for many years so was looking forward to revisiting it.

We received a warm welcome but sadly the food, service and general ambience were poor. We weren't offered sauces (ie. horseradish) with our meal and there was a dribble of gravy on the plate over the food with none to accompany and none offered. Unfortunately it all tasted as it if were a reheat job or had come out of a wholesale packet.

We waited for a good half hour before our empty plates were taken away, by which time none of us felt like having a dessert.

The pub was fairly busy at the bar, but many are on Sundays but manage to give better service and better food.

Tired decor. Pub needs a good revamp and re-think. It is existing on its location by the river.

Sorry!

User

I took my parents to The Grove Ferry a few days ago as they were visiting. We arrived mid afternoon and sat in the pub area for food. I chose the only option available for vegans (not really a "choice" if there's literally only one thing) which was a beetroot wellington. It sounded pretty exciting but it was literally just a whole beetroot encased in pastry, nothing more. But it did come with sweet potato mash and tenderstem broccoli .Two whole stalks! How generous! To top it off we'd had to wait an hour for the food to arrive, which is fine as it was a busy time, but a heads up would have been useful. The two stars are for the bar and wait staff who were lovely and helpful, but it was a disappointing experience all told.

User

extremely disappointed, not only is the food over priced and mediocre, but the management and customer service was absolutely appalling. On mentioning that our meals werenŌĆÖt right we were met with a barrage of sarcasm, defensiveness and unprofessionallism. we were offered a refund, and then on leaving, were denied it despite having left the meal uneaten. the arguing back from the manager made our time here very bitter and uncomfortable, to the point that other customers noticed and agreed with how appallingly the manager had acted. she also threatened to kick us out for complaining, despite our complaint being a quiet one - the only noise coming from her! to add to insult we walked to the bar where we heard her gossiping to the staff about what had happened in a derogatory manner, and we were given a sarcastic thumbs up as we left. as three people who have all worked in customer service and management, this is not how you run a business, nor is it how to treat any person, never mind a paying customer. avoid at all costs until management is changed.

User

Went here for dinner yesterday and had a terrible experience, they do not cater for people with allergies which is shocking, they have no idea whatŌĆÖs in the food they are serving, I could not have one dish off of the main menu as I have a celery allergy and all they could do is offer to make me a sandwich (the only one sandwich I liked had celery in it) IŌĆÖve had this allergy for 2 years now and have never been to a restaurant that I couldnŌĆÖt order a meal from and that couldnŌĆÖt be bothered to even try and come up with a solution. Will never be returning.

User

Totally awful. The food was dismal the place was unheated and freezing. If it had just been me and my partner we would have left. Sadly we had two hungry kids. The dinosaur burger was a chunk of unedable dry meat that neither kid ate. The meals had a bit of dry mash and 2 bits of broccoli so yes still hungry! Didn't stay for desert thank God as 4 meals were over ┬Ż80!!! Got charged ┬Ż2! For A SINGLE TINY MUSHROOM! ┬Ż2 for a bit of cheese and a further ┬Ż2 for bacon to go in the burger taking the burger to over ┬Ż20! Never in my life have I ever felt so ripped off! Stay away from this pub people unless you like horrible food that cost a total fortune.

User

The pub is set in a beautiful location. The toilets were both blocked and stinking of faeces. The food was overpriced and disappointing. A tiny portion of tasteless mash and two pieces of broccoli to accompany my dish. Left feeling hungry.
