Welcoming the festive season, our favourite Yankee Candle fragrances for this month are Christmas Magic and Winter Glow.
Winter Glow offers the crisp scent of frosted leaves warmed by a golden amber sun whilst Christmas Magic captures the classic scents of balsam and pine with a sophisticated hint of birch and eucalyptus.
Available in all our centres, except West End.

Currants and gooseberries are delicious in puddings and smoothies, so it makes sense to look after them if you grow your own.
To maintain a bumper crop, its important to understand that blackcurrants fruit on stems produced the previous season whilst gooseberries, red and white currants fruit on stems that's one or more years older.
Pruning will be essential to their health, especially opening up centre of the bush, to create an open 'vase' shape. Select branches that are dea...d, dying, diseased or rubbing as the first candidates to be removed, followed by trimming back half the new growth to an outward facing bud.
All currants and gooseberries have a shallow root system so they also benefit from having a mulch of straw, grass clippings or wilted comfrey at this time too. If you apply high-potash feed in spring, you'll be harvesting these for your kitchen for years to come 😋

With Christmas on the horizon, our pot grown Christmas trees are the #PlantFriday ecological option!
This year we have Blue Spruce, Fraser Fir, Norway Spruce and Nordmann Fir. Grown in pots from the start, they can be brought inside for the festive season and then replanted outdoors in the New Year.
Remember that they will still need to be watered, especially if the central heating is on!

Did you know that trees spend their winter growing roots? After the leaves have fallen, all the action moves below ground.
You can take advantage of this natural process by planting your ornamental and fruit trees before winter sets in, allowing for better growth in the following year! 🌿🌿🌿

Visited yesterday. Didn’t need anything just went for something to do and to have lunch. Of course we ended up spending money lol. As usual the food was lovely and with so much choice decisions are hard. Very friendly and helpful staff.

User

Sunday lunch for Mothering Sunday was superb. Free rose included for that day for the Mothers Day Roast meals.

The Turkey was moist & tasty & my husband said the beef was perfectly cooked. Excellent choice of vegetables all nicely cooked & well presented. Not easy doing mass catering! Staff very nicely presented & all cutlery clean.

I also have to add the dear mature lady clearing tables as quickly as she could did a sweet and courteous job as we arrived.

The grandson enjoyed the children's play area. So providing a most enjoyable Mothers day for all.

Now to plant those Tomato plants that we also buy each year from Haskins.

My first visit here as recommended by a friend. Can honestly say it’s the most beautiful garden centre I’ve ever visited. Such a lovely choice in products. The Christmas displays just beautiful. I could have spent a fortune ( if I had it) . Can’t wait to visit again and shall deffinatly try the restaurant next time as that looked lovely and I’ve heard the food is really good. Really worth a visit.

User

Loved the garden centre prices were very good I visit my dad in worthing and take him there for plants and visit the cafe for coffee and cake which prices are just as good

If people think it's expensive then they should visit polhill garden centre in Kent they are double the price and not as nice as Haskins Garden Centre

User

I have in the past only visited the shop at Xmas, which is amazing. This time I went with a friend to show her. Also needed a bag of grit. The shop is excellent, wonderful products, and the clothes plus accessories are first class.

Their garden dept. Is well laid out and very attractive. Lots of choice.

The restaurant is spacious, and the food is first class, don't go hungry it will drive you mad.

trying to make a decision.

Outside their plants are beautiful, so well looked after and therefore colourful and healthy.

Great display and a lot of variety and choices.

So did I get my bag of grit? Yes, plus a little shed in lavender, which I named a lady shed. Garden lights, a trolley of plants, tin of Ronson paint, paving slab for shed, compost, manure, and soil improver.

Had to have a very large scone and a bottle of ginger beer to recover and cool down the credit card.

The staff need a mention, they were really lovely and extremely helpful.

Highly recommend, take lots of pennies. Great place.

User

Excellent Garden centre. Met up with some friends for lunch, food is amazing, so much to choose from - sarnies to roasts, even wine !!, plenty of seating room, clean & tidy, friendly staff. The shop side is amazing too, well laid out & so much choice, car park is massive to. Would recommend -x-

User

We tend to visit for the cafe and then have a wall around after. A little expensive, but good quality.

User

We had a very nice time. The staff friendly and helpful. We all had the roast for dinner. While I was happy with the vegetables my husband who is more fussy found none he liked. The carrots had all gone!

User

Popped into Haskins for cooked breakfast, my partner and I both opted for the 8 item choice. Great idea as we were able to have what we wanted rather than it being a fixed choice. The lads serving were friendly and helpful. The food wasn't hot but it was ok - I am very fussy over the temperature of my food and I enjoyed it!! My only criticism is that while queuing for drinks our food was dropping in temperature so maybe a different system here would help - maybe even a self-service hot drinks machine, Costa do them along with other establishments and they're pretty good. There are plenty of seating areas without being on top of each other. The public loos are vast, modern and clean. The outside plants area is good with a varied choice and inside there's lots of bits and bobs (mostly quite expensive) covering most departments. I would come here again when I am down this way...

User

It had been a while since I had been here. I must say that your Festive /Christmas decorations & displays etc were Amazing! the restaurant was good and all the staff that I interacted with were very helpful. The food was really yummy and well presented. Very filling but very tempting. Resulting in me also taking a cheese scone and lovely banoffee muffin home with me for later. A member of restaurant staff called Chantelle was most helpful too. As a wheelchair user who came with a helper both them and myself were very impressed. Safe to say that we will both be making a return visit at some point in the near future.

User

I use Haskins every month to host an Open University Students Association Coffee & Chat meet up for students, their family and friends. It's successful; well attended and everyone who come loves the venue.

I'm a wheelchair user and go to this meeting without a carer. The staff always go out of their way to help - carrying trays etc - and sorting out suitable tables for me. They're lovely and I feel totally comfortable being on my own so please pass on my thanks to them. :-)

However, I agree with a previous poster who said: 'Disabled access is good for the majority of this place, although I feel that footpaths around certain areas need to be made much wider'. Yesterday, (December 10) I was unable to access some areas which spoilt my visit somewhat. :-(

Having said that, it is always a pleasure to visit Haskins and I will continue to use it and recommend it. :-)

User

Great place to shop and eat, lots of gifts and plants. Good selection of hot and cold food in the cafe too.

User

Food was lovely although a little pricy. Drinks were overpriced but tap water was available. Staff very helpful and friendly. Seating in dining area very good

User

We use Haskins regularly, both for purchases and the restaurant.

I went in today to buy a strimmer and was amazed to be told by a member of staff that Haskins the GARDEN CENTRE do not sell lawn mowers or strimmers !!

But it is a good place to buy ladies and gents clothes, kitchen equipment and Xmas lights.

Sadly had to go to another nearby Garden Centre to buy a strimmer

User

The garden centre is good, if quite expensive. A real shame that they don't allow dogs in the cafe, as I'm sure I would go more often if that were the case. There are very few weeks in the year when you can sit outside, and if you're alone with a dog, you can't go inside to order.

User

The decorations where fantastic this year. Just a shame the cafe was so busy and only 3 people serving food and drinks and no where to pay if you just wanted a slice of cake and not hot food or drinks, the lines where almost out of the cafe so we decided against eating here which was a shame.

User

Go there a lot for breakfast, often go for midmorning coffee and really like everything about the centre. Have bought some very nice clothes and good quality hand bags. Yes, pricey but great atmosphere and easy ample parking.

Definitely 10/10

User

Overheard a staff member speaking to a customer, about my child having a tantrum?! So unprofessional.

User

Certainly won’t be visiting this garden centre again. A member of your staff was heard by myself making comments to another customer about a FOUR YEAR OLD having a tantrum. Completely unprofessional and judgemental. Has she never seen a child have a tantrum in a shop before? It’s a shame as myself and the child’s mother are regular customers at your garden centre but feel we are no longer able to visit. Maybe you should consider giving your employees some training on how they converse with customers and talk about children seeing as you have a wide selection of children’s toys and books that I won’t be spending my money on again.
