When we were looking for wedding venues, we were a bit dubious about the Horseshoe, especially when looking at some of the older reviews on Tripadvisor. However, we decided to go and have a look and see what we felt in person. We met with Emma, who was the proprietor before Mariya and Gareth. She talked us through the wedding packages, and was very open and honest with us about the reviews, and even offered to show us a few of the rooms so that we could see for ourselves. We were on a budget, but felt that we could still get quality at an affordable price, and so booked the venue. Emma then left and Mariya and Gareth took over. We, understandably, were very nervous and concerned about how this would affect our wedding plans, costings and did not know what to expect. However, we need not have worried at all! Mariya has been absolutely fantastic, and we have found that both she and her staff have been friendly, professional, attentive and have totally gone above and beyond for us to help us to have the most fantastic and perfect wedding day. Mariya clearly has experience and knows what she is doing as a wedding and event planner and co-ordinator. There had been a wedding the day/ night before, but this was not evident on the morning of our wedding when the staff had been working overnight to prepare and decorate the room. It all looked beautiful and we could not have wished for better! We had eaten in the restaurant before the wedding, to try the food, and this had been a totally positive and scrumptious experience in itself. My other half said it was the best burger he had ever tasted, and the vegetarian food was divine! On the wedding day itself (9th October 2016), so many people commented on how gorgeous the food was, and that the evening buffet was the best they had ever seen and tasted! They even did special dishes for me, just because I am the bride! Perfect, and it was great to be able to give our guests a selection of dishes to choose from. The attentiveness to detail was superb. The day went so smoothly, and we could not have done this without Mariya and Gareth, and the fantastic staff, and at such a great price too! I would totally recommend the Horseshoe inn, even if just to go to the restaurant for a meal! We are even thinking of other events that we can book the room for. We loved it! Perfect day thanks to Mariya, Gareth and the staff, and thank you to them for making our guests feel so welcome too.

User

Wedding was held in May 2016 and was lovely, infected perfect. The food was out of this world and not one of our guest had any complaints to make about it.

The evening food was out of this world and presented in a lovely fashion...

A few little thing that we would have changed but that always happens after any event.. Over all we would recommend the horseshoe Inn as a venue.

User

We came to stay for one night (wish it had been longer) for my partners 30th Birthday.

From the moment we walked in the door you could feel how welcoming the place was.

Maria greeted us with such in a such a warm way & was kind enough to speak with us about the history and encouraged us to have a look round as she could see I was busting to do so.

Nothing was touch trouble.

My mother had ordered a room if sparkly with 3 glasses for our room and this was there efficiently at 2pm when we got to the room and kept a surprise.

The rooms were comfortable, homely and clean & yey there was a clean bathroom.

We had the most beautiful meal in the evening, the staff were great and again so friendly and welcoming. Also they managed to keep the secret that our meal had been paid for by my Mother until we went to pay (thank you).

The breakfast was amazing and so filling.

Maria must have been so tired as she was in the bar the previous night but up again first thing with a welcoming smile, nothing was too much trouble.

Thank you for our lovely stay.

P.s. This beautiful place will be somewhere we visit again and has been added to our wedding list (that's pretty awesome as we live 2 and a bit hours away).

User

The Horseshoe Inn was the venue for my Wedding reception this weekend and they did a fantastic job. Mariya was amazing, ensuring all was ready and going to plan. The reception went so smoothly with no hitches or problems, the food was amazing for the Wedding breakfast and buffet and plenty of it to go around. The staff were very helpful and the rooms over night were very good, the beds were extremely comfortable and the breakfast was amazing. Thank you so much everyone it was brilliant. User

My wife and I love this place it's about a 20 minute drive from our house but well worth the journey normally go in the evening for dinner and a drink on a nice day we love to eat in the garden. Friendly and helpful staff lovely food and lots to choose from we will always go there it's our favourite pub.

User

Lovely stay very friendly staff very clean rooms

And breakfast was excellent

Thank you will book again

User

Lovely food, very good price and very nice evening friendly staff. We stopped on the way through as the exterior looked nice, worried the food would be overpriced but it wasn't. The kids food was delicious too. Would highly recommend.

User

Last minute booking via Expedia. Literally arrived within the hour. Room was small but comfortable with all necessary amenities. Booked in for dinner and we were very impressed. Superb Pork dish with Apple gravy. Chef even made a little extra at my husband's request. The cheeseboard was the best I have ever had....anywhere!

Breakfast was outstanding. I opted for Eggs Benedict. Hollandaise was delicious. A slightly better quality ham would have been preferred but at £100 for 3 courses at dinner, 2 G&T's, 2 Spiced Rum and Cokes, Bed and full breakfast for two....I can forgive the cheapish ham. Outstanding value. Thank you.

User

It’s so lovely to see new management. So welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere and food is amazing. Will definitely be going again. Can’t recommend it enough.

User

I was going to give this charming and atmospheric inn a 4 star rating. But I just couldn't as we enjoyed it so much.. It's near perfect. But with a few things that could be improved. Me and my partner loved our stay here. Our room was lovely. Wood beamed and with a 4 poster bed. Rooms were clean and everything worked. The building is old and amazing it has a beautiful historic charm. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant area are stunning and well laied out. Food was good. And reasonably priced.

Only bad points that made me consider giving it a 4 star is the following.

There menu was limited. The meals we wanted they didn't have and they only bad one left of the liver and bacon. Bare in mind there are only 5 or 6 things on the menus. The chefs specials was empty.

Food took around 40 minutes to arrive. Which didn't bother us but there was only me my partner and a table of 6 in the restaurant.

They also had run out of hot chocolate.

The above didn't spoil our experience. But maybe making sure they have enough stock?

Over all loved it.

Will be back for sure. Thank you for having us.

User

Having just returned from five wonderful days at the Horseshoe Inn, I can thoroughly recommend this beautiful place. Mariya and Gareth along with their wonderful team of staff make you so very welcome and the food is absolutely amazing. Really looking forward to returning in the very near future. Once again thank you Mariya and Gareth for making our stay so lovely. Mary & Gary xx

User

Had our wedding reception here 1st June 18, fabulous venue and the staff were lovely. Stayed 2 nights. Only complaints are that the cooked breakfast wasn't that great and a lack of plates, cups ect on both days and only one person waitresing so struggled to deal with the demands as the hotel was full and restaurant very busy. Also the garden out the back was a right mess unit I mowed the grass and swept up all the rubbish myself. New owners need to invest a bit more cash and staffing and it'll be awesome.

User

Great atmosphere with friendly efficient staff. Traditional inn with great charm. Excellent menu and well presented well cooked food.

I first stayed here 30yrs ago on business and it was a pleasure to return for a leisure weekend stay and find it was just as charming and welcoming as I remembered it ! Good r

to see a young staff carrying on its reputation for good customer service.

User

A massive thank you to all the staff at the horseshoe inn, for such an excellent service. Our wedding reception was truly amazing!!

Thank you to Mariya for organising and helping the day run so smoothly! Thank you to Gareth, for some excellent food. All our guest have commented on how good the food was and how nice and helpful the staff were.

We are so glad we picked the horseshoe to hold our wedding reception..it was truly amazing!!

Many thanks once again

Marita (Manager) was very warm and welcoming. The first thing to hit you is that this is a traditional style inn, if not an original inn. I suspect it is original. It has a warm feel about it as you first approach, this grows as you enter. There is a warm smell of burning timbers that pleases the senses.

It is fairly dark inside the public areas (few windows) but is well lit artificially. This may go back to taxing of windows! The layout suggests it is traditional, a little quirky and functional. The room I had with my 9 year old was clean and very easy to live with. En suite was exceptionally good and the shower easy to use. My 9 year old son had 3 showers in 2 days so full marks to the "inn".

The bar / restaurant/ breakfast areas were "traditional" but clean, functional and not only easy to use but the staff made being in these areas feel worthwhile.

Value for money I would give 90%+ and I will return.

Downsides: none that can be changed really! This is a traditional inn and will loose in most people's eyes against the soulless alternative "lodges and inn's" that are today's "highway travellers rest and respite". Glad that RelaxInnz are keeping these traditional places alive and that there are a lot of local functions to keep it running. Sorry to say that in 20 years it will probably be soulless and "plastic themed" rather than what it is today as an original theme.

Main plus point was on my last day, Maryta's other half (sorry if you are not "together") hearing my accent managed to scourge Loren Sausage for breakfast.

Only irritation was that being in an unlit village where it gets properly dark, the outside floodlights ruined this by never being off.

User

The food is incredible. However I have been twice for yearly events for a meal. First year not everything was available on the menu to eat. This year we booked for over 20 people 5 weeks ago to find out that the booking isn't on record. Then not everyone was able to get served food as they had other large groups booked. There were only 2 people working for a Saturday night. No fault of there own they did well with an unfortunate situation

User

Stayed in Room 19

The Negatives -

The room is a heck of a journey to get to with lots of doors and lots of stairs through narrow corridors if you have a heavy case. This is an old building so bear in mind there is no lift!

Bathroom window doesn't shut properly so there's a permanent draft.

You literally have to run the shower for 5 minutes on just the hot tap before the water in the shower is hot enough to get in, and yes it's a mixer pipe off the bath, not a separate shower unit

Bedroom is generically cold, which I guess is why there's an electric heater provided as the central heating radiator isn't enough.

You can't actually reach the curtains in the bedroom to close them as the window is so far up and deep set into the bay it's physically impossible to get to without standing on a chair!

The bedroom furniture is solid wood, but not exactly what you'd call quality or up-to-date.

The kettle lead isn't quite long enough to reach the socket below the shelf, unless you perch it backwards right on the very edge of the shelf...... Erm, boiling water and health and safety issue!

The Positives

Bedroom itself is in the attic space so has low beams and character, just mind your head!

Bed is comfy enough and is 1 mattress not 2 butted together like Holiday Inn Express quite often do!

Free wi-fi in your room, and at off peak times when you're not sharing with everyone else is reasonably quick.

The Restaurant

All positives here!

Lots of character and old building charm

Open fire in the lounge area

All freshly cooked food

All delicious

Reasonable choice selection on the menu

Portion size on the main meal was good (couldn't finish!) so didn't even have room for desert!

Service

Again all positives!

Polite, friendly, always greeted with a smile.

Overall

3/5 - good but improvements in the dated bedroom with irritating issues are what let down the overall experience provided by the restaurant. Delighted in one area yet disappointed in the other.

If the issues in the room are addressed it would have been 4/5.

Would I stay again?

Possibly......but not in room 19!!!

User

Unfortunately we have not had a great experience. We enquired about having this as our wedding venue and booked to go and look/discuss things further. Last Sunday it was cancelled the evening before. So we rearranged for 4pm today to be sitting there for 30 mins for the person not to show up & no staff could get hold of her. We only travelled 20 minutes but it was very frustrating. The staff that were there were very helpful and apologetic. But we can safely say this is not the place for us to hold our wedding! X
