this place is a gem! It's quirky and homely, the staff were all welcoming and I felt like they wanted to work there. Myself and my boyfriend ate in the restaurant for lunch, the food was excellent! However I can imagine spending an afternoon with a coffee and a paper in the bar. Plus it's lovely to see the animals in the garden.
We're staying locally and was recommended the Jacobs Inn, popped in without a reservation, was seen to by Sam, no problem getting a table, great service and suggestions from Sam too. What a lovely place, great food, friendly staff, loved it, thank you so much 😊
We visited Jacobs Inn on Saturday we took some friends to help celebrate their 40th birthday - couldn't recommend the place more, fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere, staff couldn't do enough for us, very attentive friendly even with all the children charging about the place - a must visit.
We came for a 2 night stopover in Oxford and had tea here on our first night with our two children. We thought the food was fantastic, there's a superb atmosphere & the loveliest waiter called Zach.
We had such a great time we came back the following night to celebrate hubby's birthday.. Great service from Zach again & superb food
We ate with you Saturday night and I just wanted to say how lovely the place, food and service was. All our meals were lovely but I just have to say how out of this world the butternut squash gnocchi was! I NEED the recipe! Unfortunately we live in Norwich so we can't just pop in for another meal! Absolutely lovely, thank you! And if I am ever your way again I will definitely visit!
Too cool, totally laid back, slightly eccentric and delightfully traditional all rolled into one and that is not to mention the food, most excellent... indeed!
My only complaint about this place is that I didn’t know about it sooner! Beautiful, quirky, fantastic quality of food and drinks and the ability to make some animal friends in the rear garden. This is the pub of pubs!
Lovely place, quirky decor and food that was worth the money. I love that there's free range hens pecking around outside and even a little pen for some goats and pigs. We had the Sunday chicken to share but be warned! It's bigger than you think!
Just excellent. Brilliant price worthy food in generous portions, incredible garden good drinks. Spot on. Far better than I would ever have expected. Makes me happy when places like this as runned so well. Thank you for being awesome!
Great food great drink and great atmosphere!! Even for a Yorkshireman 😉
Fantastic food great pub a bit quirky. Caeaer salad very tasty but had soggy coutons. All in all top evening. Well worth a visit
Fab staff, good beer, great Food, lovely beer garden. Better than the trout.
Came tonight for a birthday celebratory tea and had a fab evening. Started with drinks in the garden, then moved to our table for 7, nicely situated in an alcove. Different dietary requests- vegetarians, gluten free- amply catered for by knowledgeable staff. Went straight in with mains- each one different and each enjoyed...specially crab linguine and individual pies. Puds...choc brownies, lemon meringues, sticky toffee and great cheeses!!
Thank you for great service and lovely food at a very reasonable price! We may well be back!
Came here on the recommendation of a work colleague, wasn’t disappointed. Nice food, excellent beer selection. Better than a soulless hotel restaurant, and only 25 minutes walk Holiday Inn or Travelling lodge at Pear Tree roundabout.
Beautiful inn! The food could have been a little better though, but the place looks amazing. I recommend it.
Absolutely amazing atmosfere, staff very polite, and helpful.Compliments to the chef, chicken pies are delicious.Thank You,will go back for sure
What a great inn. We arrived unannounced and wanted to stay for a drink and bite to eat. Even though the place was crowded, the very friendly staff soon found us a table for lunch. The food was excellent, although slightly small servings. The atmosphere was what one would expect from a well-run old English inn, with old-style furnishings and bar. There was plenty of head room for the taller patrons, and the coffee is actually barrister style real coffee. A terrific place to eat, drink and have good conversation. Prices were spot on with the value. We have now booked to attend their New Year's Eve dinner. Heaps better than the over-priced Trouts Inn just down the road. (James)
We have been a few times now, the food was mostly good, the only setback is that the last three times we had to deal with a grumpy lady who never smiled and generally sounded like we shouldn't have been there bothering her with table and food requests.
I wish I could give it a higher rating having been twice before and had a wonderful time on both occasions a fantastic meal there. But after the service we received tonight I feel even 2 stars is overly generous. We were hosting some friends who didn't make it to Oxford until late and so we didn't make it to the pub until after 10. Despite this Facebook page stating they are open to midnight we were denied service after 11 as they had stopped serving despite many othere people being served. When challenged the gentleman who had refused us mumbled something and scurried away. Given that we had only managed to order one drink I doubt they thought us too drunk to serve so who knows why they turned us away. Deeply disappointed. I shall not be returning anytime soon I certainly won't be recommending it to anyone again. I know our guests were just as disappointed.
