“Is that for me!?” Come in and see us before we close for Christmas! We’ve got loads of gorgeous things and cute dogs to play with! #coffee #mincepies #dogs #coffee #coffeeshop.

User

A big thank you to the wonderful team from Surrey Police who have been incredibly helpful, kind and courteous in the face of our adversity. Here's hoping you catch them!

User

A massive thank you to Luke and Valerie who found our safe - sadly empty - on the towpath near Richmond. Especially to Valerie who is amazing and said she’d stay with it until the police got there. It’s so good to know that, despite there being scum who do awful things, there are some wonderful people around!!

We're very sad today as we got broken into last night. Our safe was stolen, with the last few days takings in it, plus our computer, our iPod and the bit of money that was in the till. We're only just keeping our heads above water anyway and this a real blow, so if anyone saw or heard anything, we'd really appreciate it if you would let us know. We're open for business as usual, though, so please do come and see us! x

IN A NUTSHELL IS BACK!
Our evenings of true storytelling are back at Jean's Café and the first one is on Monday May 21st.
We’ve had a break of a few months to recoup and rethink, but due to very popular demand we are back for the first of a new season of In A Nutshell with our wonderful friends and hosts Matt Price and Martha McBrier.
... May's theme is… NO THEME. We decided it would be fun to open up the floor to anyone who wants to tell a story about absolute anything! There will, of course, be a bunch of hand picked storytellers including Matt and Martha, but the evening is open to you, our faithful Jean's Café Crew, to tell your own fascinating tales.
Please put MONDAY MAY 21st in your diary. It’s going to be a great evening and we can’t wait to see you there.
To book your tickets, either call into the café, email Sarah at sarah@jeanscafe.co.uk, call the café on 0208 399 0096 or contact us via Facebook.

BACKUP - THE TECHNICAL ENTERTAINMENT CHARITY
If you have ever been to the theatre, a concert, a comedy show, watched a film, watched television, listened to music, attended a conference or been to a sports event you will, most likely, have taken it for granted that the lighting, sound, video, rigging, staging and recording will all be perfect. And most of the time it is.
This is due to the talent, hard work, passion and dedication of the people who work behind the scenes. Oft...en working through the night, mostly evenings and at weekends and under difficult and often dangerous conditions to make the stuff that entertains us perfect.
Most of the Technicians who work in the entertainment industry are freelance and do it because they love it - it is more a vocation than a job. However, compared to many of the acts that they support with their skill and dedication, these freelance workers get paid very little.
So, when, for whatever reason, these talented and dedicated professionals fall on hard times (which can and does happen to all of us) there is very little financial back up to get them through.
This is the very reason that Backup – The Technical Entertainment Charity was set up. Backup is there to help those who work in live events, theatre, TV, film and recording, offering help, support and hope in their darkest hours to get them back on their feet.
Backup needs your help to carry on helping those that help to entertain you. You can do that by being thoroughly entertained at COMFEST.
COMFEST is an evening of top class stand-up comedy with the legend that is AL MURRAY The Pub Landlord and a fantastic supporting lineup, including the fabulous CLOGGZ Band, at The Dorfman in The National Theatre on the South Bank on Sunday 25th of March 2018.
We promise it will be the most fun you’ve ever had on a Sunday evening…and of course, it goes without saying, the bar will be well an truly open.
Get your tickets now at https://www.backuptech.uk/event/comfest-2 018/

If any of our lovely Jean's Cafe customers fancy an evening of outstanding Stand-Up comedy, with our very own STORYTELLING EVENING'S MATT PRICE as MC, and supporting the wonderful people from our other life in the Entertainment Technology Industry (it's in support of backup tech.uk charity and Sarah and Jamie have helped to organise it) we'd love to see you there. It's a one night only event at the National Theatre and is going to be absolutely amazing!
We have an absolutely ...stunning line up for the evening with The Guvnor AL MURRAY as THE PUB LANDLORD, supported by the fabulously funny Mike Gunn, Tiff Stevenson, Danny Posthill, Susan Murray and Nick Revell (if you came to storytelling in December, you'll have seen Nick there).
AND we also have the very talented, and quaintly quirky, Brighton troubadours, THE CLOGGZ as our live band for the night.
There's only three weeks to go and the tickets are selling out fast so if you want to joins us, go to www.backuptech.uk to GET YOUR TICKETS NOW.

Well worth a visit! Yum! Good coffee, great food and friendly service - the music is great too.

User

We popped in today for a late morning coffee & croissant, been meaning to visit for months and today we were finally able to, it was worth the wait! What a lovely place, loved everything about it, the decor, the atmosphere, the cute tea cups, the staff. My 10 month son took a shine to the friendly ladies working hard, who made us feel relaxed & welcome. Can not wait to come again & sample some more yummy delights, no need to go into Surbiton when this is on my door step xx

User

This is an absolurely lovely cafe. The owners are really lovely and the venue is gorgeous.

Last night I attended a story telling evening. It was absolutely delightful and I can't wait for the next event.

User

So pleased to finally have a decent coffee shop in the area, go and try the mint chocolate brownie... it's AMAZING!

User

Putting aside the fact that I've known both of the owners for some years, I have to tell you that Jean's is my kind of place, with perfect decor, great coffee and really good food options.

If you're a fan of good, and I mean REALLY GOOD hand made sausage rolls then head down to Jean's. You won't be disappointed! The perfect late lunch.....

The only negative.......I live in Kent so it's hardly a 'pop out for a quick bite'!

User

Lunch and latte today at Jean's Cafe. Great coffee and food and love the decor. Fantastic job guys xx

User

User

Hurrah, at last. Lovely new coffee shop in Berrylands. Friendly faces, great decor, and most important, decent coffee. Come on Berrylands, let's support them.

Finally a decent and contemporary coffee shop in the Berrylands corner of Surbiton. I love it, great coffee, sandwiches and cakes are wonderful! Fab atmosphere too. I've been twice in one week already! And you'll probably see me next week too.

User

Especiallly their Rocky road! It's a must, if you haven't already tried it :)

User

Awesome place to have a coffee, get some work done or just chill out and relax!

They definitely have a new regular in me!

User

A nice cosy cafe where you'd want to spend your lazy Sunday just reading your book or newspaper.

User

Cosy cafe with friendly staff. Sells coffee and cakes.

User

Looking at the other reviews, I can only think that we must have visited the cafe twice on off days. On our first visits it was lovely. I like the layout and the atmosphere and the coffee and the goodies on offer are definitely delicious. It's reasonably priced and it's nice to see something in Berrylands other than takeaways. I love that there are events held in the cafe, too, and can see that there's definitely great potential for this lovely little independent. I can especially recommend the salmon and cream cheese bagels :)

Our two most recent visits, however, were disappointing in one respect, but one important one. I don't know if it was just our bad luck to arrive when staff were in a bad mood or whether it was not the regular staff. It took an eternity for us to be served, which would have been OK if there had been some acknowledgement of our existence, let alone the fact we were waiting, but sadly the staff kept their backs to us and did not even greet us, despite clearly being aware that we were there. Although the cafe was fairly full, it did not seem that they were rushed off their feet, which might have made it more understandable (though still a bit rude). We get a friendlier greeting in Costa! As a result we felt quite uncomfortable, as though we'd gatecrashed a family party or were wearing an invisibility cloak without realising it. It was only the fact that we'd enjoyed previous visits that kept us there long enough to order our lunch.

I'd love to make this our regular. As many others have said, it's a lovely lilttle cafe. But for me to consider it a place I choose to go for a coffee, I'd need to feel a little bit more welcome. This is meant as constructive criticism, by the way, not a moan. (Hard to convey tone of voice in an online medium). Customer care goes a long way.
