MOT Extension Information.....🚗🚙
Your car, motorcycle, light van or other light vehicle’s MOT expiry date will be automatically extended by 6 months if it’s due on or after Monday 30 March 2020.
This means that your vehicle will still have a valid MOT certificate for an extra 6 months. You do not need to do anything for this to happen. However, you must keep your vehicle safe to drive.
... This applies to all vehicles, including those that need their first ever MOT test. Example: Your vehicle’s MOT was due to expire on 3 April 2020. This will automatically be extended to 3 October 2020. You will need to get your MOT by this date.
⚠️How to check if your MOT expiry date has been extended?
- Your MOT expiry date will usually be updated on the day your MOT is due to expire. However, it might be done up to a few days before.
- You can check your MOT history to see when your MOT expiry date has been extended. Keep checking back if your new expiry date is not showing yet.
- You will not get a paper certificate to show your new MOT expiry date.
You can use this link to check: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/
⚠️If your vehicle tax is due?
- You can tax your vehicle as soon as your MOT expiry date has been updated.
You can use this link to tax a vehicle: https://vehicletax.service.gov.uk/
⚠️ Keep your vehicle safe to drive
- You must make sure your vehicle is safe to drive (‘roadworthy’). It can be unsafe even if your MOT expiry date has been extended.
‼️You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.‼️

From 30 March 2020, MOT due dates for cars, motorcycles and light vans will be extended by 6 months. This is being done to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
There’s separate guidance about what to do if your MOT due date is up to and including 29 March 2020 - please email us if you are unsure
You do not need to do anything to extend your vehicle’s MOT expiry date if it’s on or after 30 March 2020.
... Your vehicle will be automatically given a 6-month MOT exemption. This will extend your current MOT expiry date by 6 months. We have been told this is happening automatically , 7 days before your current expiry date until things return to normal.
However, you must keep your vehicle safe to drive. We will post up a helpful guide in the coming week on some things you can check yourself.
When garages re-open across the country you will be able to get your MOT carried out at any time, you don’t have to wait until your new expiry date to give you piece of mind about your vehicles safety.
The new ruling is being update daily so is subject to change but we will keep an eye on it and post up what we know, when we know 😊

COVID - 19 Temporary Closure Announcement
We have been working flat out, all week to get those vehicles we have had booked in back to everyone. The past fortnight has seen us work in quite different and challenging circumstances and I want to thank all our customers for their patience and respecting our additional measures in place to help protect both you and the JKM team.
On Friday 27th we will be sending our staff home until further notice. 😥
... We all need to do our bit to prevent the spread of this nasty virus and to help each another stay healthy and although garages are on the exemption list and we are taking every possible precaution, we feel this is the right thing to do.
Jim and I will remain at the workshop as much as we can next week to continue with the small about of essential work on a couple of vehicles that need to be completed.
I will literally be taking the office home with me (not quite sure how that will pan out but we will see) so I will have access to our emails and booking system and will do my very best to answer any enquiries you may have, estimates, bookings etc feel free to drop us a line.
KEY WORKERS - if you are a front line worker and have vehicle maintenance due, repairs required or an issue with your vehicle please get in touch. We will do our very best to help and will reopen just for you, if you need us, to get you back on the road safely 💕
We hope and pray that old Boris and the crew get a handle on this and we can open our doors again very soon, without worry. But until that green light has been given we sincerely hope all of you remain fit and healthy during these unprecedented times and the whole of the JKM team thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your loyal custom and understanding.
Stay safe, stay strong and we will see you all again very soon 🤙
Jim (Bearded Bossman), Kate (the real Boss 😉) Tony (the little one) Ben (the medium one) and Sean (the big one) 😊 xx
*please excuse the ‘Individual pics’ taken as social distancing stopped us having a group hug 😟 *

In amongst all the craziness that’s going on - one of our amazing customers bought these in for us yesterday 😋
As a small business we are in very scary times, but this certainly lifted the mood and if there is one thing we at JKM are known for ... (apart from our awesomeness 😉) it is our love of chocolate 🍫 😍
After a quick squirt with Anti Bac (safety first) they vanished quicker then Jim, when it’s his turn to make the tea 😉🤙

Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE
With all the global media coverage, we thought it prudent to update you all with what is happening here at JKM, especially if you have your car booked in over the coming weeks.
We are still very much open, all staff are well and we are putting extra hygiene and cleaning measures in place. We have absolutely no intentions of slowing down or closing unless the government issues a full lock down.
... We are running at full capacity and will try our very best to get your vehicle booked in as soon as we can. Our phones lines are extremely busy, so please bear with us.
Please help us to help you 😊
In order to support the health and well being of staff and customers, if your car is coming in, if possible, we would kindly ask if you could make sure it is reasonably clean inside, remove any dirty tissues etc, and if possible, give the steering wheel, handbrake, gear stick and handles a quick sanitising wipe.
All staff wear protective gloves when working on your vehicle but they will also now wear gloves when in your car. Please don’t be offended by this, as I said this is both for your protection and ours.
In the workshop & reception we have increased our cleaning of all door handles, work surfaces, counters, card machine etc.
If you are in a high risk group or elderly and are choosing to self isolate, where possible, we may be able to assist and collect your vehicle from your house. Please bear in mind we are only a small team of 5 but will make every effort to assist if we can.
Finally, if you are displaying any symptoms in line with Coronavirus, we would kindly ask you to re-arrange your booking to a later date.
In true British Style – we are Keeping Calm and Carrying on and if anything changes, we will update you all as quickly as possible.

So for those coming to the best VW show on the south coast (in our opinion 😉) Beach Dubbin’ there will be fun to had on the JKM stand.
The famous spark plug challenge is back!
We will be helping Beach Dubbin’ raise as much money for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance as we can.
... It’s just £2 a go and all you need to do is be the fastest person to change a couple of spark plugs 😀
We have some amazing prizes to be won. These have been donated and are courtesy of Mac Tools Portsmouth and Euro Car Parts Thank you so much guys 👍🏻
So come on over and join in the fun...💪🏻
