Last Friday we held our 'thank you' day for staff. Without them, we wouldn't be the fantastic hospital we are.
Staff were able to enjoy a break, have some food, spend time with colleagues and enjoy some fun! Here are some wonderful pictures from the day.

At the L&D we have to make sure all our departments and units have the correct equipment at the right time.
This wouldn't be possible without Nabeel Ahmed and the clinical engineering department. They are responsible for making sure the majority of all medical devices used here at the L&D are well maintained and in perfect working order.
From mending complex anaesthesia devices to training medical staff how to use a ventilator, it is all in a day’s work in their team. They ...are the keepers of most of the electronic medical equipment; keeping them stored in their “library” and deliver them across the hospital wherever they are needed.
The team take great pride in making sure everyone gets the equipment they need, when they need it, and that it is used as it’s meant to be used.
Without them, we wouldn't be able to deliver outstanding care to our patients with the correct equipment and devices.

Family holidays are a great time to relax together, but it’s not unusual for someone to have a minor injury or illness.
If you are staying away from home in the UK and need medical advice or an appointment you can ring NHS111 24/7.
Clinical staff are on hand, and the service can also make an appointment near your holiday home if appropriate. #StayWell

Meet Tracey McGrath a midwife who comforts bereaved parents here at the L&D.
Tracey's role requires her to provide much needed support at the darkest of times for parents who have lost their baby at any stage of pregnancy.
Her role is not one many have heard of, although pregnancy loss is more common than anyone thinks. Tracey doesn't formally discharge any of the families she supports; they can always get in touch when they need that extra help.
... Tracey spoke with Sky News as to why she is so privileged to be trusted to help grieving parents > http://ow.ly/wgd030kIReo

See you all again in 3 weeks. Xx denise rea

We attended A&E with our 2 year old son on Easter Saturday 2018 when we couldn't get his high temperature to come down and were very impressed. We were seen quickly, all the staff were patient, friendly and efficient and we were out with a prescription for antibiotics within 3 hours. My son even got a sticker and Easter egg for being brave ♥️ which was lovely. Thank you L&D :)

User

We are from glasgow and visiting family in luton when we had to take our son to a and e as he split his head open. From entering the hospital to leaving we were only there 40 minutes. The nurses were absolutely amazing with our boy. Had him assessed and stitched up in no time. They are angels who deserve their weight in gold. Thank you so much for the excellent care for our child.

User

My mother in law was admitted to A&E she is 89 with a broken hip the team were excellent. A very difficult task for them as she has dementia. The ortho surgeon explained the next steps. Today she had an operation and is now in recovery superb care.

User

My daughter came in today to have an MRI under general anaesthetic. She has Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder so I was really worried it could be a really stressful situation for her. She has come out bouncing and had a great experience. She is needle phobic and didn't even realise that she had a cannula in her hand or that it was being taken out. Thank you to the nurses and other staff for helping and supporting my daughter today. You are amazing xx

User

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the staff in the Intensive therapy unit on behalf of Yvonne moulton and her children. The way the staff cared for David Moulton went over and above anything any of us have ever seen or experienced they made a very sad time, bearable, and showed kindness and great care. They were extremely informative and understanding and kind and caring, and the family would like to thank all the staff there and say what wonderful people you are. We will never forget you and your kindness. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts xxxxxx

User

I was referred to L & D for a hernia op and went for pre op the week before, the staff were amazing and I was in and out in no time.

On the 9th I went in for my op and I’m not comfortable in hospitals but from when I first walked in the reception were professional and friendly. I had everything explained to me and was in at 7 am and sitting at home at 1pm. I just want to thank all the nurses, surgeons and receptionist for making my stay a great one. Oh and a special mention to my anithiatist who was the happiest person I have ever met. Thank you L & D.

User

I did say thank you to them with a card and chocolates but want to tell you how amazing the nurses are xx

User

I came in for day surgery today. In your surgical unit. I just want to congratulate the staff within that unit. Their service was absolutely flawless. It was a pleasure to see them all smiling and treating patients with top class care. I was very comfortable throughout my experience from start to finish. Thank you very much for your hospitality. Great work. Good job and well done to all of you at this unit.

User

Having spent the last 48 hours in a&e, PAU & then a paediatric ward I can say that I am completely overwhelmed by the brilliant care by all the HCA's, Nurses, doctors etc etc who helped looked after my beautiful 14 month old son. I cannot praise the efforts all of the staff including the fabulous paramedic who came to our home & took us into hospital enough. Thank you thank you thank you! Your efforts do not go unnoticed & I can honestly say I will not go anywhere else for the care of my children. Keep doing what you do, you are amazing!

User

Had an operation at the day surgery on the 10 of March thank you to all the team in recovery unit and the theatre, what a great job, well done, can't ask for any better highly recommended.

User

From the pre assessment team to the surgical team I just wanted to pass on my thanks.

I suffer extreme anxiety when it comes to medical staff and procedures and am needle phobic.

I’ve been dealt with as an individual and as a scared human being with the most respect.

Yesterday I came in for day surgery and instead of being made to feel stupid, I was hand held quite literally through the whole process.

The short stay nurses were lovely especially Barbara (and Eve who is a bank member of staff)

The lady who came to get me from the recovery team in the dental area and the lovely oral surgeon and the lovely lady who literally held my hand when I needed it the most to get me to walk through the door into theatre.

Amazing staff.

Thank you so much xx

I couldn’t have done it without you xx

For the last week we have spent most of our time at the Luton and Dunstable hospital as my mum had a nasty fall resulting in two bleeds on her brain. From the ambulance crew arriving at the house, the A&E department, high dependency unit, then the wards she went on afterwards we were so impressed. The staff, nurses and doctors were amazing. So many caring people in one place. My mum was seen immediately once we arrived and had her CT scan within half an hour. She had a nurse with her permanently taking her blood pressure, checking her pupils were dilating, making sure she didn’t deteriorate in any way. Everyone was amazing - you should be very proud of your hospital because I certainly am!!

User

Exceptional and by far the best hospital I have ever been treated in. This began from the moment I arrived and was checked in for my operation to the moment I left the Departure Lounge. The Team on Ward 22 are truly wonderful, caring and efficient. Special mention must go to Connie who was wonderful, funny and kept me in line.

I cannot recommend this hospital highly enough - Dr Al Taan and all the Team are a true credit to the L&D plus NHS in general.

Thank You Thank You Thank You

User

As it’s NHS week I’d just like thank you for all you do. Also a special thanks to your very skilled and caring paediatric team because of you our little boy is still with us. He contracted sepsis at just 2 weeks old. Without you all he may not be here today we owe you so much

User

Most of the nursing staff are the best you can get but certain wards are not set up for long time stays so no protocols are in place to make sure you get a wash or even have a care plan the food is a lot better than it was but it would be nice to see a written list.

Just week ago had emergency c-section after 12h waiting for it. Had some complications. My husband been told that I needed blood transfusion and they put some dye inside me to make sure everything is ok.

Never seen a doctor even when I was ready to go home no one told me what exactly happened to me

What kind of after care i need. So we started asking some questions only nurse told us that they probably cut my bladder that's why I needed some dye. I wish some one told me anything. Looked like no one did care. Shame
