Luton Hoo Walled Garden

Every year we run our popular workshops for children in the Walled Garden. In August this year we will be concentrating on the 4 -7 year old age range. Each week the two hour workshops will focus on the hands on exploration of: seeds, flowers, vegetables or herbs. It’s Pilates in the Walled Garden @9am. Get your skates on and you’ll just make it! ⏭⏭

Prop houses 1 and 2 produce incredible vegetables, fruit and plants that we use in the garden and sell in the shop. You can see from our cucumbers how successful they are and how well they work! And now, because of the money raised on our Study Day we are able to finish the work on prop house three. Our volunteers are now re-pointing brick work, replacing the roof and bringing this valuable asset to the garden back to life. Prop house three will house our incredible cactus collection and give our cacti a safe home throughout the year. Thank you to all involved and of course to the volunteer project at the core of this work; without their hard work and dedication this would not be possible.

There are still places for Yoga in the Walled Garden tomorrow (8-9 £10) an incredible opportunity to experience the Walled Garden’s morning tranquility - Come by! - Followed by OPEN WEDNESDAY 10-4 - Entrance includes a fascinating garden tour of the garden and its outbuildings, the opportunity to purchase seasonal fruit, vegetables, apple juice and honey from our garden shop and a well earned break for a light lunch, snack or a great cup of tea at the Woodyard. That’s Wednesday sorted! 😊

We were delighted to welcome BBC's Countryfile to the Walled Garden last week. John Craven came and spoke to the Estate Director, Edward Phillips, and the volunteer research, garden and conservation teams. He also spent some time with a 95 year old lady who was a Land Army volunteer here during the war. The show will be televised on Sunday July 14th - Set a reminder!

The ten winners of the ‘Design a Fairy Door Competition’ have been announced. Competition was fierce and the standard of work incredibly high – We certainly had our work cut out to narrow the entrants down to the final 10 winners, listed below: Lizzie (age 9) Amelia (Age 8) Alexandra (Age 9) Amy (Age 10)... William (Age 4) Olivia (Age 7) Madeleine (Age 11) Abiola (Age 7) Nyle (Age 4) Gisele (Age 4) Each of the winners will find their door design on a fairy door along the Woodland Walk, which makes a jolly path between the Woodyard Coffee Shop and The Walled Garden. Come and view the winning doors this Sunday on Open Farm Sunday, between 11am – 3pm (and maybe make a fairy lantern in the Walled Garden to guide you along the way) Congratulations to all our entrants and of course to the ten talented winners!
