Medway Nhs Foundation Trust Description

Medway Maritime Hospital treats around 400, 000 patients each year mainly in Medway and Swale, but increasingly other parts of North and West Kent too. Everyday we see around 1, 400 outpatients, about 250 patients use our emergency department and approximately 150 patients need to be admitted for hospital care and treatment.

The range of specialist services we offer have grown over recent years, as have the communities we serve, bringing to Medway services which in the past, patients have had to travel miles for. This includes the cardiac catheter suite, West Kent Vascular Centre, West Kent Centre for Urology, a dedicated stroke unit and the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.

We had our first baby here in November. We could not fault Medway NHS throughout our pregnancy & our birth. We wanted to use the Birthing Suite but were unable to, the midwives, doctors & nurses did everything to reassure us & make sure we were as comfortable as can be in the Delivery Suite in the ward. They go above and beyond, couldn’t gone better if I had asked, they are all undoubtedly amazing. Thank you so much for making our journey as comfortable as can be! For a hospital that is always said to have staff shortages, you always seem to do so well. We never have any complaints about any of the units we have used. Once again, thank you for all you do!

This was written by my daughter then posted on FB, so I thought I would share It.

I know I complain a fair bit, but I also compliment where it’s due, and it’s most certainly due for the staff on CCU at Medway Hospital.

Every member of staff on the unit has been fantastic with my Dad, even the tea lady comes round every day with my Dad’s coffee and speaks to him cheering him up.

You can have all the qualifications, skill and knowledge in the world, but if you don’t have a kind and caring nature then it just won’t work.

The staff at Medway were fantastic. I was in for surgery and stayed on McCulloch Ward for 13 days.

The nurses were fabulous which made my stay so much better. I couldnt fault them at all. They work very hard and im grateful for the care i recieved and also the laughter which brightened each day even when i was feeling abit rubbish. A huge thankyou to everyone.

Thank you so much to the staff in paediatric A&E today who took fantastic care of my daughter. They were really kind and thorough and treated her with real respect and dignity and explained every step to us throughout her visit. We also had 2 students sitting in on my daughter’s treatment and their passion and caring nature will certainly take them far in their future careers. The staff were polite, kind, caring and friendly to not only my daughter but myself and my son as well and I could not have asked for a better experience today. Thank you to all those working tirelessly under such challenging conditions, particularly nurses Kirsty and Sia who helped us today. My daughter is home and back to her old self now and we are very grateful #ournhs

My 1 year old daughter was admitted by ambulance after struggling to breath, I really can’t fault the nurses and doctors on penguin ward.

She was monitored constantly and given her medication at the exact times she should have it, they were fantastic and after a 4 day stay she came home and has fully recovered.

I would just like to say a big big thank you to all the NHS Staff on Sunderland Ward this afternoon, you all took great care of my Twin sister Nicola Pilbeam. I know the nurse was Nikki but not sure of surname & the Sister was so so lovely Rosie Woodham I think I have surname wrong but there treated my Sis with love & care so thank you so so much xxx

I had to visit the Colposcopy clinic the other day. Naturally I wasn’t looking forward to it but the ladies in the clinic are all lovely. They welcome you warmly, explain what is going to happen during the appointment and above all treat you with dignity and respect. (Very important when dealing with parts of your body that can be embarrassing for some). I was put at ease straightaway and we actually had quite a laugh and I left feeling assured that I was being well cared for. Bravo girls!

User

I can’t thank the paramedics and Medway staff enough for how they helped my mum today they were all absolutely amazing!!!!

Over worked and underpaid and still so happy and helpful, truly amazing people each and everyone of them!

User

From the maternity suite, and there caring and amazing approach after having to deliver my son who was stillborn, and then 14 months later my rainbow baby, To the CCU, Nelson Ward and the amazing staff in a&e - thank you all for saving my mum.

And the Penguin and Dolphin wards, for getting my little boy better when he’s asthma doesn’t want to play ball - You are all amazing.

For a hospital with such bad bed shortages, staff shortages plus much more we probably don’t even know of - you all are amazing to do what you do when you are probably dead on your feet, 3 hours after your shift was meant to end. Thank you.

User

Every member of staff are so lovely and caring, the service they provided for me was outstanding. How the staff can remain happy and smiling the whole time and going out of their way to look after you is truly amazing. MFT is fantastic

User

A week ago my Nan was brought in, from the moment she got there Medway was nothing but amazing. She had a week stay, couple nights on Wakely ward then onto Nelson, every single nurse was nothing short of Amazing.

And my whole family can’t thank you enough.

Even today in the awful weather you brought her home to save my family the trek! Thank you for everything you’ve done.

Despite the obvious pressures they encounter daily, the staff were professional and helpful. It is quite clear that Government cuts and policies have such wide reaching effects

There was a patient in Meddoc who clearly had additional needs to their presenting medical issues. I’m not sure if they were mental health, learning difficulties, substance abuse issues, but that is actually irrelevant. This person clearly needs far more support than the hospital can provide. The staff were doing their utmost, but it was quite obvious that they were only “putting on a sticky plaster “

Thank you to all the staff for putting my mind at rest and for all you do 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. Xxxx

My son was diagnosed with Peri orbital cellulitus on 14th December. The junior doctor made us a referral appointment for Thursday 21st December at 11.00. We arrived and checked in. After an hour i went to see how long it would be. Another hour later we were still sitting there. I wasn't to worried the lady in front of us said that she was 2 hours late for her appointment. I went to check and was told we would b seen. An hour later I was still sitting there.

I went to check and the receptionist could not find my son's notes then the doctor could not find the notes. They took us to one room then another. The doctor attempted to read the discharge notice from the 14th December. Then proceeded to ask me what the problem was..... errrrmmm is it not in the notes ??? She did not look at my son she did not approach him or talk to him (he is nearly 11). She showed no interest in looking at my son and felt more interested in telling me that the ward was closed and that she couldn't accept any more patients..... I was not there to admit my son I was there to check the cellulitus had gone !!! She had no interest. The hospital appointment administration system is diabolical.... I don't even think that he was recorded as being there for the appointment at 11, hence waiting for nearly four hours

Shambles and diabolical

User

as useful as a chocolate tea pot discharge from Milton ward was a shambles no equipment was supplied medicine was all over the place, no table or chair was supplied when OT said it would no pads supplied even told the ambulance service there was no steps when there was 13. the discharge for my wifes aunt whose in her 70s was terrible. think Milton ward needs to be taught how to discharge properly

No wonder the doctors surgery’s and meddoc struggle seeing people when all a & e do is refer you to them as they can’t be bothered to see people. Went there cause iv hurt my foot but because I don’t know how iv done it they refused to see me and told me to go to meddoc or my doctors and yet the children’s part is fantastic

Investigations into abuse of mental health patients have nearly doubled in three years, according to a report.

An analysis of NHS figures obtained by The Times through Freedom of Information requests, found abuse incidents recorded by mental health trusts had risen from 106 in 2013/14 to 199 in 2015/16.

Inquiries into reports of abuse of child patients jumped from nine to 39 in a single year.

If I could give a zero I would ... my 89 year old nan has been admitted to the hospital since Tuesday and it’s been nothing but a shambles! No one knows what’s going on, none of the nurses can give any information, when they do give information it’s wrong! It’s disgraceful ... I fully understand doctors and nurses are busy, overworked and underpaid but they have a duty of care to their patients which is clearly not being acted upon at all! Very disappointed and would tell people to avoid!

I went to hospital, via my doctor, about 10 weeks ago with regards to a possible broken thumb. It still has not been treated and just been told need to wait another 5 weeks to get an Ultrasound. All this time I have a painful thumb with a lolly stick, and yes I do mean a lolly stick tapped to my thumb to help support it. The specialist at the hospital would not even give me a splint for it.

I haven't enough space or time to mention all the problems while my 82 year old mother has been in and out of hospital.

They always ask if i would reccommend Medway to friends who need treatment. Answer is no. wouldn't recommend them to anyone
