This is how I left the #sussexhabitathouse at the end of another long week! Walls are painted and trim work is well underway, 2nd fix is done and flooring is in - just the bathroom fixtures and fittings, gloss work and the MVHR/DHW to install now and then next week we will start to work on finishing the outside! We’re going into “dark mode” now until the big #reveal so stand by for pictures when the build is complete! A cool project we designed about a year ago and built just recently - a #bikeshed , #toolshed and #logstore designed to perfectly fit along a tight side access. Finished in #anthracite #hardieplank set into tantalised redwood framing and an #epdmrubber membrane roof. Completed with assistance from @knotonlywood who laid the bricks 🧱 with absolute perfection!

Presenting.... our Portland Observatory! For the first time, we applied James Hardie's HardiePlank fibre-cement cladding - a beautiful cedar-style plank that offers excellent weather protection and longevity, as well as vastly better dimensional stability than timber. The chosen colour, Boothbay Blue, complements the timber used for the frame and pergola perfectly.
The roof is our traditional hipped design with Envirotile lightweight high-performance tiles. Under the skin,... the observatory is completely enclosed by our new insulating breather membrane which reflects radiant heat away from the roof and the observatory, and ensures the warm room stays warm!
Internally, it features a sliding door between the observatory and a warm room, plus built-in cupboards. Measures 3.6x2.4m (12ft x 8ft) externally, excluding the pergola.

Excited to share some photos of our recently completed Studio Observatory - the third of our 'modular' designs that place the warm room within the roll-off rails - giving you loads more space in a smaller footprint! This one features our thinnest roof yet, maximising the interior space and the viewing angles whilst staying inside permitted development dimensions. Also featured is our new furniture - designed in beautiful white melamine-faced birch ply. It's super resilient, and absolutely gorgeous, as we're sure you'll agree! An A+ rated UPVC window and door let in loads of light, whilst keeping the warm room warm and super-secure. A few photos of the plans are included too for interest - as you'll see, we build *exactly* what we draw!

A few of the drawings we produced for our newly commissioned studio observatory. It's the third observatory to use our new 'modular' design, which is unique for placing the warm room within the roll-off frame for the observatory roof. This one also features quite a bit of bespoke furniture which will be made from gorgeous melamine-faced birch ply. This is just a subset of the drawings, of course - the full set only goes to the client - but it will give you some idea of the detail we go to. When we take the photos of the finished observatory, it will look exactly as it does here - down to every last piece of timber.
