Due to the Coronavirus and in the light of Government advice, for the protection of members health and in the recognition that public attendance at fairs will likely be reduced we have made the decision to cancel all fairs until the end of April.
We are trying to re-schedule our Oxford Premier for later in the year but nothing confirmed yet. We will keep all our customers informed but keep checking our website at www.pbfa.org for updates.
Despite our book fairs not going ah...ead for several weeks we have a huge selection of #secondhand, #rare and #antiquarian #books available. Don't be bored at home please do pop on our website and browse through our books for sale page https://www.pbfa.org/books where you can search via specialisms, price, author and title. Need help, email us at info@pbfa.org or call us on 01763 248400.

Ian Fleming Memorial : Signed By William Plomer
... One of the scarce cased copies. Plomer, William (Ian Fleming Interest) ~ Address Given at the Memorial Service for Ian Fleming. St Bartholomew the Great : Signed By William Plomer : Association Copy Westerham Press : 1964 The sole UK Printing. which was privately printed at the Westerham Press in 1964. The BOOK is in near Fine condition and is only one of the limited 50 hardcover copies issued. Original black boards, titles to label to front board in black. The book is in lovely condition with just a hint of toning to the page edges and the slightest of pushing at the spine ends. The book has been Inscribed and initialled by William Plomer to John Morris on the title page. Protected in a loose Mylar archive cover. An address given at the memorial for Ian Fleming, by the South African poet and novelist William Plomer. Plomer was a close friend of Fleming, his trusted Editor-in-chief and had been a publisher's reader for Jonathan Cape from 1937. He was instrumental in the publication of Fleming's work and was the very first reader of the James Bond debut 'Casino Royale’. He was also the dedicatee of Goldfinger (Gilbert p. 596). John Morris and William Plomer were close friends and had worked together over the years on many projects and Plomer often addressed himself as ‘W.P.’ to Morris. The recipient, Major Charles John Morris CBE, known as John, was a British mountaineer, anthropologist and journalist, and controller of 'BBC Radio's Third Programme’. From February 1943 to October 1943. He worked in the same department as George Orwell, at 200 Oxford Street. He wrote an article about Orwell, 'Some are more equal than others' for 'Penguin New Writing Number 40', September 1950 which was reprinted in 'Orwell Remembered 'with the title 'That Curiously Crucified Expression'. The Poet Laureate Stephen Spender described Morris in his Journals as: 'A not very daring promoter of the cause of culture, cruelly teased by his friend E.M. Forster, who referred to him as 'the pudding’'. Morris was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1957 and appeared as a 'castaway' on the BBC Radio programme Desert Island Discs on 16 February 1959. Highly collectible with such attributes. BINDING: Hardcover CONDITION: Near Fine

Thomas, Helen (H.T.) ~ As It Was Heinemann, London : 1926
... Very Scarce title with the Original Wrapper : Account of the courtship and early married life of the author, the wife of Edward Thomas, the English poet killed in the first World War.
The First UK printing published by Heinemann, London in 1926. The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition. Mild pushing and fading at the spine tips. Offsetting to the prelims with some light toning to the text-block and page edges. Mild spotting to the text block but the pages remain clean. Free from inscriptions and erasures. With the errata slip present. The fragile WRAPPER is complete and in Ver Good condition. Some loss at the upper spine end and a small chip to the lower rear spine fold. Toning to the spine with light fading of the red titling. The wrapper is lightly spotted but more-so to the plain flaps. Some staining to the lower front panel and lower spine end.
The wrapper remains very presentable in the removable Brodart archival cover. The first part of the author's memoir recounting the courtship and early married life to Edward Thomas, the English poet killed in the first World War. This copy is the expurgated form having two cancelled leaves with two pages reinserted (pages 53-56). The publishers removed the two leaves to censor a passage which is quite short and rather more intimate than the rest and referred to 'David' kissing her body and undressing. It is thought that less than ten copies exist of the unexpurgated form of this title. A very scarce title. BINDING: Hardcover CONDITION: Very Good+ JACKET: Very Good
