About Oxford Christmas Market

Oxford Christmas Market

Oxford Christmas Market Description

The Oxford Christmas Market was established in 2009 and has since become a festive tradition in Oxford. It includes beautifully decorated wooden stalls offering wonderful Christmas gifts and seasonal treats. Local choirs and brass bands are performing Christmas carols throughout the event, adding to the festive atmosphere, and a small Victorian carousel delights the children.

Come along and enjoy the festive atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming you!

So very proud that Oxford Christmas Market is runner up in the ‘Heart Cultural Events & Tourism Award’ at the Oxfordshire Business Awards. 🤗🥈🎉 Congratulations to deserving winner Experience Oxfordshire and fellow runner up Bicester Heritage!! 😀👍🏼🍾

User

Have I got news for you - I received the initial approval to run the Christmas market for 5 extra days this year!! 😃 As the temperatures are finally rising in the UK I decided against any Christmas decorations on the announcement - I can imagine that this is the last thing you want to see right now. Happy Spring!! 😍🌷🐛☀️

Thanks to everyone who took the time to take part in the survey and leaving a comment about improvements!! I am working on some improvements already. First up: Extending the opening period. I've applied to hold this year's market from 8-22 Dec. Now awaiting approval from the City Council. Fingers crossed!! 😃

The Oxford Christmas Market sprinkled with snow in Dec 2017

User

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful start to 2018!!
I have to apply to the Council for this year's market and need to prove the positive impact the market has on the city. Therefore, can I ask you to please take part in this short survey. It's 100% anonymous and shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes to complete. Thank you very much in advance!! 👍🏼❤️😊 https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/OxChMa20 17

Once again the Christmas tree is still standing tall while all the lovely stalls are gone. Oxford Christmas Market 2017 is a wrap! 😁 Thanks to everyone who came and visited us at this year's historical market - with the most stall holders ever, the most visitors in one day, but also with the most snow and most freezing temperatures ever!! ❄️⛄️🎄🎅🏼 I hope to be back next year! Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas wherever you are!! 😊❤️

User

Oh no, it isn't! OH YES, IT IS the final day of the Oxford Christmas Market 2017. We are open until 6pm. Kidlington Brass Band will be playing and the sign language choir Handy Voices will be singing Christmas carols today!

User

🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄 Are you in need of a Christmas tree? We have a couple of 5ft trees at the market, which are looking for a home. Please let me know if you are interested. Pick up either Sunday or Monday!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

User

The Rock Choir is back!! 😍

User

It's the final weekend!! Oh come all ye lovely visitors before it's too late!! 😃

User

And so we start the countdown towards the end of the Oxford Christmas Market 2017. ONLY 4 DAYS LEFT to visit us this year!! 😃🎅🏼🎄

User

Horns of Plenty spreading some cheer just before closing time tonight... 😁

User

A little grape-eyed snowman is still standing strong and so were a good number of stall holders until 6pm - despite many shops in Oxford being closed all day. We had another historical day for the Oxford Christmas Market today: It's the first time with proper snow! It looked sooooo christmassy. Some of our traders couldn't make it into Oxford due to the weather conditions. Thanks to all who came out and visited anyway!!!!!! 😃

User

The first snowman is alive! We had monks through the market already and Santas and someone on a sledge! It can't get any more Christmassy at the Oxford Christmas Market... 😁🎅🏼🎄

User

The Oxford Christmas Market is open despite the snow!! It looks magical!! 😃

User

Day 3 in 2017 will go down in Oxford Christmas Market's history as the best day ever!! Thank you to all who came today. Also thanks to Cherwell Singers, Stagecoach Oxford, Headingtones and Sounds Fun for their beautiful carol singing!!! Looking forward to the remaining 8 days. 😊

User

The sun is out, the sky is blue and the Cherwell Singers are back!!

User

Year on year this market gets better and better great selection of stalls and musical entertainment

User

Visited the market for the first time this year, its was so wonderful! The rock choir were amazing and made it feel so festive 😊🎄 will definitely be visiting again!

User

This German style Christmas Market gets better (and bigger) year after year! What an extraordinary event for Oxford :-)

Keep this going!!!! Thank you so much!

User

Stunning Christmas market with exquisite stalls and authentic vibrant atmosphere. In a world where too much choice abounds and we too often, wrongly assume bigger is better, what a breath of fresh air to find a perfectly formed delightful Christmas to relax and unwind in.

User

Small, but absolutely perfect. I think a bigger Christmas market wouldn't have the same atmosphere. I have been to many Christmas markets in England and Germany and this one is definitely one of the best. Well done!

User

Quality stalls, excellent mulled wine, nice atmosphere, Bratwurst, good spot in Broad Street. Ticks my boxes!

User

Perfect size and setting! Some of the other markets are too big and filled with too much tat, Oxford is definitely quality over quantity!

User

Oxford Christmas Market just keeps getting better every year! I recently visited one of the largest Weihnachtsmärkte in the Ruhr region of Germany: the Oxford market boasts a very similar atmosphere, and range of goods for sale!

To the few naysayers who have commented negatively on the size of the market, and the prices...

Of course the Oxford market isn't as big as Birmingham or London! But for the size of our wonderful wee city, it's absolutely perfect!

Our Christmas Market lacks nothing compared to its German cousins. Indeed, it's a great chance to sample & buy both the traditional things you'd expect, and some more, quite outstanding, local produce & goods! And Broad St is an ideal, and quite iconic location...!

In terms of prices, well you're absolutely getting the real thing in terms, for example, of the Bratwurst & Glühwein! Without the cost of travel to or accommodation in Germany.

Each costs roughly the same in £s as it did in €s in Essen last week...As we all know, you can only blame those who voted for "Brexit" in June for that!

Viel Spaß noch am Oxford Weihnachtsmarkt! :)

User

Nice little xmas market close to us was lovely to wander round

Well worth a visit

User

Loved the stalls and the holders were all really friendly. Cute selection of wares, very different to what is available in the shops. The Foods on sale were yummy as well, especially loved the Churros! It can only be improved by being a bit bigger :)

User

It was small with a select group of stalls selling quality items at realistic prices. Wandering around with my mulled wine and browsing the handmade Christmas tree decorations whilst listening to the Rock Choir sets a perfect scene. Looking forward to returning next year.

User

It may be small, but the stalls are lovely with beautiful items on sale, many at reasonable prices. I bought more here than I have at any other Christmas market. Lovely atmosphere with the band playing carols, excellent mulled wine and food stalls, very friendly and helpful stall holders. Will definitely be going again.

User

Beautiful things for sale, lovely smells, tastes and music, and friendly stallholders. I would love it if you could make it bigger, fill the whole of Broad Street, please!

User

A charming haven of festive cheer just around the corner from the bustling high street chainstores. Small enough to take everything in without feeling overwhelmed, but plenty of variety and good-quality gifts to suit all pockets.

User

Lovely atmosphere ... started that Christmas feeling off for me this year!

User

It's very pretty and the stall holders were generally very friendly with nice products but the market was way too small compared to the huge one in Bath. Still loved visiting the city though.

User

Lovely market but way too small. Oxford isn't the easiest to get to and park so the effort needs to be worth it really. Took us about 20 minutes to walk round. The stalls were lovely though.

User

Good market! Mulled wine was delicious! Perhaps next year it could be a bit bigger :)

User

A little on the small side but what was there was very good.
