The Berkshire Echo is the newsletter of the Berkshire Record Office, with past issues back to 2008 at
https://www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk/ berkshire-echo
The April 2019 Echo is at
... https://www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk/ …/BRO-Berkshire-Ec…
The current issue focusses on Women’s suffrage in Berkshire, and there is also a 'New to the Archives' section, detailing recent acquisitions of the Record Office. One such is a deed (dated 1670) relating to Caversham, then in Oxfordshire but now in Berkshire, which has a seal wrapped in sycamore leaves, almost certainly dating from the late 17th century, but still in excellent condition.

Audrey Collins, working at The National Archives (UK), has posted on Twitter about finding the script of the Registrar General's broadcast to the nation on the evening of 29 September 1939, National Registration Night.
You can listen to it, read by an actor, at https://media.nationalarchives.gov.uk/… /1939-national-regi…/, where you can, if you prefer, read a transcript of the broadcast.
... There are some wonderful sentences -
"I hope that nobody will be coy about their date of birth."
"After the schedules have been collected, Ration Books will be written from them and posted to the address for which the return was made. The Ration Books may not be posted for some weeks. If you remove before receiving a Ration Book you cannot expect it to follow you about like a pet lamb."

Mark Lawrence will talk about 'Picture Oxon' on Monday, 20 May 2019, to Oxfordshire Family History Society members and visitors at Kidlington.
Oxfordshire History Centre’s photographic archive traces its origins to the Oxford City Library of the 1890s in St Aldate’s. The archive rapidly expanded through the 20th century acquisitions of Taunt, Packer and Thomas collections, affording substantial coverage of our region, from Cotswolds to Chilterns and right through the Thames V...alley. Gaining its first online presence via the Heritage Search website in 2007, our photographic archive now looks to Picture Oxon at http://pictureoxon.com/ to provide a catalogue of 400,000 images of local people, places and buildings. Picture Oxon’s resources include not only photographs, but engravings, drawings and maps too. Our work of saving, collecting and recording photographic imagery of the county never stops, and the enthusiasm and effort of volunteers helps us to extend public access through the scanning and cataloguing of otherwise untapped collections. In future we look forward to more public involvement in our work, with sharing of content, effort and expertise, all directed towards a more effective capturing of our pictorial past and present.
Mark Lawrence is joint Manager of Oxfordshire History Centre, Oxfordshire County Council’s public archive and local history library.
We meet at the Exeter Hall, Oxford Road, Kidlington, OX5 1AB, with the meeting starting at 8:00pm.
Doors open at 7:15pm, when there will be advisors offering computer and genealogy help, a selection of maps and Black Sheep books for sale, and tea and coffee available.
Non-members of the Society are always welcome! We have, though, introduced a non-member entrance fee of £2, to contribute to the hall hire & speaker costs.
For those unable to attend our meetings, we aim to put a synopsis of each talk in our Members Own Area (the MOA), at https://moa.ofhs.org.uk/ shortly after the talk.

Oxfordshire FHS is sad to hear of the decease of Gill King, a member from Bicester. A tribute has been published in the Oxford Mail, written by Matthew Hathaway of Bicester Local History Society: https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/…/17599782 .tribute-to-biceste…/
