Crews from Bicester and Buckingham put out this car which caught alight next to a field of standing crop just outside Stratton Audley on Monday.
Due to the fuel tank being severely affected, crews had to use foam as well as water to extinguish the fuel fire to prevent it spreading down the road !
Fortunately, the fire was contained to the road and car, averting - more serious incident !

We know we’ve had a lot of pictures of these recently but we can’t stress enough how important it is to catch field fires early and tackle them.
Just before 2pm this afternoon, crews from Bicester, Kidlington and Oxford, supported by a specialist water carrier unit from Wheatley and 4x4 units from Kidlington and Maidenhead dealt with this fire over approximately two acres near Ardley next to the main Chiltern rail line and B430.
The farmers who were harvesting, and another ne...ighbouring farmer played a vital role in quickly ploughing a firebreak, and using a slurry bowser to dampen the edges, and working with our crews were able to prevent it spreading further.
If you see a fire, please report it via 999 with as accurate location as possible to help us tackle it and prevent further damage.

Crews from Burford, Chipping Norton and Witney attended a fire in machinery within the flour Mill at Shipton under Wychwood this morning just after 8am.
Fortunately the prompt action of site staff in shutting down the machine, a prompt evacuation and calling us early meant that once the machine interior was accessed and cooled to ensure the fire was out- the business was able to carry on less than 90 minutes later

Firefighters from Bicester and Kidlington attended this collision to support colleagues from Thames Valley Police who had arrived at the scene of this accident this morning just after 6am in the road from Wyevale Garden Centre to Chesterton.
Fortunately the driver was assisted from the vehicle almost unharmed and checked over by South Central Ambulance Service and is now assisting TVP with their enquiries.
The car was severely damaged with the impact and the driver was extremely fortunate not to have sustained major injuries had it not hit on the passenger side

An all too common sight currently are bonfires spreading accidentally to surrounding land and often to bushes, trees etc.
One crew from Bicester dealt with such an incident just after 2pm near Arncott where the fire spread up and affected a large tree as well.
Fortunately the fire was contained - please take great care in this hot weather and simply do not light fires or dispose of BBQ’s, cigarettes, carelessly - even if you think they are out !

Here are a couple more photos of yesterday’s field fire at Upper Heyford courtesy of Stephen Beckett and an aerial one from Davy Leyland.
At its height flames 4-5 metres tall could be seen as the fire advanced, fanned by the wind. These fires spread incredibly quickly - this was caused accidentally whilst harvesting was taking place - the farmers worked with crews using their own bowsers etc to damp down the edges etc once the main fire was extinguished.

This was the scene of 400 tonnes of landfilll waste on fire which was faced by fire crews from Bicester, Buckingham, Banbury, Bletchley and Brackley just outside Finmere late last night.
Fire crews from the three counties worked through the night having been called around 22:15, with additional crews from Witney, Deddington and Burford relieving the initial ones around 3:30, working to fight the initial fire, and work continues today to get into the deep seated areas that con...tinue to burn.
Banbury crews used a specialist High Volume Pump to set up a permanent water supply from an nearby lake to supply water for firefighting.

As the hot weather continues, a timely reminder that even the smallest careless disposal of cigarettes and other hot items can cause fires.
A crew from Bicester attended and finally extinguished this fire involving a planter outside the Sobell House Hospice Charity Warehouse in Bicester which had been slowly burning overnight - believed to be caused by a discarded cigarette in the planter, probably on Saturday.
Please take care all year round but especially in this hot weather - this could have potentially spread to the building and caused far more damage.

Four crews from Bicester, Kidlington, Banbury and Hook Norton tackled this field fire at the end of Camp Road, Upper Heyford which broke out just after 3pm affecting around 3 hectares
The fire was affecting the electrical pylons running through the field so power was isolated to nearby properties.
Crews took just over two 1/2 hours to contain and extinguish the fire using hose-reels, water back packs and beaters as well as a main jet.
... The farmer were working in the field, and were fortunately able to escape to safely and save the combine, and were quickly assisting crews .

So when we’re not as busy as we have been - it’s time to catch up on training ....
In the pictures one of our firefighters is preparing for forthcoming Breathing Apparatus (BA) training learning techniques for managing hose into a building led by one of our Station Support Officers at Bicester Fire Station.
The hose on the yard denotes walls with the cones showing doorways.
... Regular training in all sorts of ways allows us to keep skills sharp and is incredibly important.

Crews from Bicester, Kidlington and Buckingham dealt with a severe fire in a bedroom in a terraced house in Caversfield this morning just after 2am.
A smoke alarm alerted the three occupiers who were in other rooms in the property to the developing fire in a 1st floor bedroom which rapidly grew to the point where it flashed over, breaking the window and engulfing the room.
Fortunately having been alerted to the fire, after initial attempts to fight the fire were clearly not ...practical, the homeowners shut the door to the room, stopping it spreading to the rest of the property.
This incident could have had a much worse outcome if not for these two simple actions plus the occupiers then getting out and raising the alarm.
This fire like so many others was accidental - Please ensure you have a working smoke alarm - we recommend a minimum of one on each level as a minimum - this shows the difference they can make to lives and property.

Shortly after returning from the horse rescue today, Crews from Bicester and Deddington responded to and dealt with around 500m of vegetation along the side of the main Banbury to London Chiltern railway line.
Due to the obvious issues around working near and on railways - trains had to be stopped in both directions whilst crews dealt with the fire so apologies for any delay !
Crews were at the scene for around 90 minutes along with representatives from Network Rail.

Had a visit from the Abingdon watch today, to advise us on safety (as I have my elderly bedridden mum living with us), and to check/put up fire alarms. I was extremely impressed with the care, attention and advice they gave us, we've now got a plan in case of a fire, and am generally feeling much more confident that we'll know what to do if the worst happens, and have good smoke alarms which will give us vital seconds to put the plan into action. Thanks again Abingdon Fire Service, you're great!!
