New Town Councillors for Colne
With both the Colne Town Council Parish Meeting and its Annual Full Council held last week, the new team of volunteer Conservative councillors began work, setting their priorities for the town over the next four years.
The new faces on the team are: Cllr Emma Cornish representing Colne Central, Cllr, Kevin Mcnulty representing Horsfield, Cllr Mark Chung representing Castle Road and Cllr David Cockburn-Price representing Lidgett.
... Returning councillors are: Cllr Neil Butterworth and Cllr Jonathan Nixon for the new ward of Colne Central and Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price for Lidgett. All three are also Pendle Borough Councillors.
“Our Town Councillors share a passion for Colne”, said Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price. “We aim to drive the town forward, so it goes from strength to strength, whether as a place to live, to do business or just have a really nice day out. We will work closely with groups like The Colne BID, Lancashire County Council, Pendle Borough Council and local businesses to increase investment in the town.”
During the Annual Full Council, the councillors bid a fond farewell to Cllr Paul Foxley, who has been Chairman of the Town Council for the past two years. Despite losing control of the Town Council to the Liberal Democrat Group, the Conservative team pledged to work harder than ever,
Cllr Neil Butterworth has been a member of the Events Committee for the last nine years, serving as its Chairman last year. He said: “As a Group, we have decided to continue go full tilt for Colne’s Events, which we have built up remarkably over the last few years. During the last Council term, we moved from just three or four a year to a dozen, varied events, with some, like The Grand Prix and The Blues, acting as a major draw on a regional level. The Tory Group has proven event expertise and so the entire team has agreed to serve on the Events Committee and The Blues Working Group.”
Cllr Emma Cornish, who also manages the town’s Co-op, will chair the new Weddings Working Group and aims to make the Town Hall a successful and profitable wedding venue.
Cllr David Cockburn-Price, a businessman and Chartered Accountant will become deputy chairman of the pivotal Finance, Employment and Services Committee, with Cllr David Clegg, last year’s deputy chairman, providing continuity as Chair.
As the Colne Neighbourhood Plan moves towards its formal consultation this summer, Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price will continue to chair the Working Group, which has many co-optees from among the public.
