We were visited by the British Pilgrimage Trust, headed by Will Parsons, a few weeks ago before their hike to Kneb Castle, which was done to raise awareness for the declining population of turtle doves in the UK.
Turtle doves have a conservation status of vulnerable to global extinction as their population continues to decline.
They began their journey at The Plough in Rusper because in 1907, the landlord, David Penfold, wrote a folk song, named ‘Turtle Doves’.
... The British Pilgrimage Trust sang the song along the way and the story and song was recorded by BBC Radio 4 and is to be broadcasted on Christmas Day.
Here’s a sneak peek at an early rehearsal!

Popped in this lovely village pub for a business lunch, the staff were very friendly and the food was spot on. Lovely original features and low beams give a cozy warming atmosphere. Will definately return!

Lovely pub. We frequent all the Time Well Spents in the area and cannot fault them. The service is 100% and the food is always lovely. And being able to have a child's portion of roast dinner was extremely lovely, Not having a large appetite. We will and do always recommend our family and friends that this is our favourite chain and wiil continue to use all the times we can.

Lovely pub with traditional character and open fires. The “Nunnery” room upstairs is great for gatherings with the girls to make it feel special. The new manager is really friendly and welcoming and it was so thoughtful to put on Rememberance day refreshments for charity.

Food is great with good portions and I love the new menu- I had “Thyme Chicken” and the mushroom sauce was perfect, not sickeningly creamy and plenty of mushrooms. Looking forward to returning for a burger soon.

User

Had early evening snack and drinks at this cosy little pub. Log fire. Food fantastic. Service excellent. Will certainly visit again

User

User

Great pub, effective and honest food, perfect winter hideout with real fires, lovely lovely 😊 staff, cool space, child and dog friendly,

User

Best pub ./ restaurant in the village. A excellent range of beers, wines and spirits. Lovely big beer garden out the back. With tables and umbras. Garden games available (ball, cheques etc). The customer service is fantastic. Just a great place to have a drink or eat.

User

After several changes of landlord over the past few years the Plough slipped off our radar for a local place to go. I'm happy to report it has bounced back under its new ownership, the menu is short but well presented and the food is home cooked and plentiful. Tonight there was live entertainment in the beautiful well maintained garden and the pub has re-established it's place in the village. A wonderful evening and I shall definitely be back.

User

Really nice Sunday dinner with family. Resently moved to the area and found a great local pub!

Lovley place with great food. Will definitely be back.

User

Never been here before. Popped in randomly for a quick drink for the first time last night...place appears nice and clean, the food looked good and there were plenty of people sat eating it too so that's gotta be a good sign?!...I'm going to pop back for grub at some point. 🍻

User

Lovely meal, sitting in a sunny summer garden. Friendly staff, good value menu, look forward to visiting again soon.

User

Great get together today talking about the old days at the Plough most of us could relate to more than 50 years of drinking there

Great food and drink

Thanks the Sexton & Poynter families

User

Good Ale well kept. Excellent food, friendly staff. Just mind your head of you're taller than about 5' 6" ... Sadly not served by any viable means of public transport.

User

Visited at lunchtime today for family meal. Initially service of food and drink was excellent (girl with red hair) as was the quality of the food. However at approx 14:30 (shift change?) it all went downhill fast and hit rock bottom. After waiting for at least 10 mins for table to be cleared, went to bar to ask for bill ( there were only 4 groups in). After another 15 mins wait went back to bar and waited even longer. Finally paid bill but with this poor management we will not be visiting here again, nor will we be recommending it anymore.

User

Shocking service, waited 1hr 15 mins for our starters and our dinner turned up at 9.45pm and that was with a 8pm table booking.

Then the waitress came and took our jug of water and said sorry but another table needs this!!!

And what made matters worse is no one even apologised for being late!

User

Not impressed with my tuna melt with a bit of warm salad. Desert was hard waffles with 4 slices of banana caramel sauce n ice cream sorry to say we will not eat there again!

User

It's a nice pub but totally let down by absolutely woeful staffing levels. Only having one person behind the bar to serve drinks, take food orders AND serve food once cooked is crazy!!
