Progressive Fitness provides Personal Training, Group Fitness, and Family Fitness based from The Unit, our gym in Reading, Berks.

Progressive Fitness Description

Progressive Fitness Training Ltd was formed in 2006 by James Parker, an ex-Army Physical Training Instructor and personal trainer. We are a Reading, Berkshire-based personal training and group fitness company offering personal training, sports massage therapy and group /corporate fitness, as well as our very popular outdoors Boot Camp Fitness programme. Whether you are new to exercise, a seasoned veteran, a sports team, or a group of friends or colleagues, Progressive Fitness will help you to realise your potential.
We own The Progressive Fitness Unit, a purpose built warehouse gym in Reading, Berkshire where we run our personal training, group classes and family fitness sessions.

ITS OUR BIRTHDAY TODAY!!
3 years ago, today we opened our doors at the Unit for the first time. It’s been a journey to say the least. Our aim was to create a welcoming environment for people to train and feel part of genuine like-minded community. I believe we are achieving this as we have so many amazing and happy members. Every day we learn, and I hope we are getting better at providing the service you all deserve and fulfilling our dream. We couldn’t do this without you... all so would like to thank each and everyone of you that has supported and continues to be a part of our family. These pancakes were AMAZING! . 2 eggs 1 banana Vanilla extract... Cinnamon powder Add any berries/fruit you like . I’ve not quite got these right before but now have a proper pancake pan which I swear makes the difference to how they turn out. Perfection! . SIMPLE ✅ HEALTHY ✅ TASTY✅ . 🔻Whisk eggs 🔻Mash in banana 🔻Splash vanilla 🔻Pour in pan and cook each side for couple mins. 🔻Add berries . Tip: cook one side, slide onto a plate so the uncooked side is still facing up. Put pan on top and spin over so that the uncooked side is now placed perfectly in the pan. = perfectly cooked pancake 💥 . Have a great start to your weekend!

Our mission is to inspire children at a young age to develop a love of exercise and to lead a healthy life style that will stay with them throughout their lives.
WHAT IS THIS FIT FORCE CLASS? It’s for BOYS AND GIRLS aged 8-11 years. They will develop balance, coordination skills, team work, confidence and new ways to exercise in a FUN... and atmosphere.
This class is great for children who may not be into a specific sport but still want to run around and have fun with other children. Similarly, children who already play sports would benefit from adding this as extra fitness to complement their sports.

Have you thought about your food for the next few days or leaving it to last minute choices?
I’m not a “prep like a boss” and constantly eat out of plastic containers person. But you do need to have at least thought about what you’re going to eat. If you haven’t, how will your fridge and cupboards have the right foods in them?
If I know I’m particularly busy, or I’m going to be confined to not getting out to buy decent food then I will prepare a few meals. I can make bad s...nap decisions just like anyone so I’m taking that away with literally 30 mins of time tonight.
Here is a really simple “meal in a bag” and you can use whatever you like flavour wise.
Piece of foil for cooking
Chicken breasts (marinated) Tomatoes Pepper Broccoli stems
Wrap them in a loose foil package and cook for 25-30 mins depending on size of breast. Whack in fridge ASAP and that will keep them nice and succulent.
Play around with flavours and veg and see what you can come up with.
Simple ✅ Healthy ✅ Tasty ✅ Even you can do it ✅

Need a short but effective workout? . In the week I had a very small window to train of just 30 mins due to lots of work, appts and child care. So rather than skip it I put a very simple but effective session together. . If you have access to a KB and a Pull Up Bar you could try this one out..... . Mobility warm up 10 x KB Swings 10 x press ups 5 x chin ups Complete as many rounds as you can in 20 mins (AMRAP) . **If you’re not sure how to swing correctly then get some tuition or substitute for goblet squats. Work to your level on any exercise and use regressions where needed** . Ever used an Air Bike? . Seems they were very popular today at The Unit (with our trainers anyway haha) . #assaultbike are a great conditioning tool. We use these in HIIT classes for short sharp bursts of work which challenge your whole body. Plus often as “finishers” for our PT clients. The fact you work your upper and lower body simultaneously the airbike is a real challenge that clients have a love/hate relationship with! Maybe just hate/hate but that’s fine with us.... . Here are our latest "transformers". These guys completed our 6 week transformation challenge this week and there were some seriously impressive results. We gave a bold goal to all of them to lose 10% body fat, some got very close and some smashed that! The biggest loss was 18% drop in fat with a 2kg increase in lean muscle mass, which are fantastic results in just 6 weeks!

“Let’s do the Bring Sally Up Press Up Challenge with class tonight”
“oooh ever tried it with Chin-Ups he said?”
So here’s our first attempt. Safe to say these 3 trainers didn’t complete the song!! More work needed for this one I think.
... It’s fun to play around with little challenges especially when you have no idea about them.
Fancy giving this a go? You can use any exercise where you have to move up and and down ie press ups, squats, chin ups or anything else you can think of... just make it a challenge and have fun!

Here is a client, Kieran, putting the KO8 to use in press ups. The KO8 is a body weight suspension strap that can also double up with resistance/assistant bands as you adjust them. In this case we are using assistance in the press up. . We’ve been working on building up to full press ups and this is a great way to add volume in the full range....Especially when you add press up bars to really emphasise the depth. . Lots of people struggle with exercises like press ups and p...rogress can be slow and demoralising. If you continually do the same exercise without progressing then look for simple “tricks” like this to help you. IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN!!!
Every 8 weeks we hold a Fitness Test as a way for our members to track their progress and for some, to see if they are getting closer to the personal goals we help set.
Various exercises are performed over an amount of time or to failure, which are then compared to previous tests. We also use this to set a baseline if this is someone’s first test.
... This a great way of measuring fitness levels and we HIGHLY recommend that our members take part. It’s also good for our community spirit when encouraging each other.
For those who don’t like the word “test” you can think of it as another class, but we monitor you even more closely ha!
As always we hope to see as many of our members to next weekends test day and see how well we are all progressing.

If I was to choose just one session to attend as a priority for our clients, it would be Yoga. That may seem surprising, but given our clients average age is 35 then it is even more relevant.... . What a difference good nutrition and just a few hours of hard work each week can make. I was relatively active before starting the 6-week Transformation at the Unit, attending two aerobic classes a week. However, I wasn’t losing weight, I had no focus, my energy levels were low and my baby-belly was taking on a life of its own!



I knew I had to do something different, so I signed-up for the 6-week Transformation at the Unit. I was a little intimidated at first, however James and his amazing team of trainers made me feel very welcome. They pushed me to my limits, but also realised that everyone’s limit is different, so often they’d personalised their advice and encouragement. The sessions were never dull, never the same and they flew by.



Week one was tough! Change of diet and the dreaded DOMS. But to my surprise I wasn’t hungry. I was actually eating more than I had done previously – just without the rubbish.



By week three I was already starting to feel the change in my strength. I started to look forward to the DOMS knowing that my muscles were building. This was a weird concept for me as I’d never class myself as the ‘sporty’ type.



The 6 weeks have flown by and I feel like I’m just at the start of my journey. The team at the unit are so supportive and knowledgeable, I now believe I can do anything I set my mind to... oh and goodbye baby-belly!

This is the best gym I have ever attended, a break from the norm. All the trainers work with you to help you achieve your goals. The other clients are all really supportive and you become part of one big family to share the good times and bad. I couldn’t see myself being as committed to my fitness anywhere else. Well done James and the team!

He is genuinely passionate about each individual meeting their personal targets with lots of advice not only about exercise but also about good healthy eating, keeping regular measurements recorded to show progress made. I am far stronger and fitter now than I have been in years and at 55 that's an amazing feeling - nothing beats it! And I WILL do that box jump - soon!

Really good set of trainers who care and take the time to educate you and actually make the sessions enjoyable. Amazing! It has changed my life more than I could imagine and I haven't even got time to dedicate as many hours as I would love to it. The point is, every minute I am able to make it to the unit, is well spent! Classes are small, instructors are amazing and they spend a lot of time making sure my positioning and technique is right. The girl that would only take the lift is now running up escalators! And this is only the start of my journey!
