About Rampion Boat Trips

For people interested in the construction of the Rampion Offshore Windfarm near Brighton. Organising trips to see the construction in progress first hand.

Rampion Boat Trips Description

In January 2016 the construction of the Rampion Offshore Windfarm began. However, it was back in 2010 that EON Energy were granted the rights by The Crown Estates to develop the windfarm

After many years the plan is to construct 116 wind turbines that reach 140m high to the wing tips. The farm once completed will be capable of producing 400MW of energy.

The windfarm is situated between Worthing and Brighton and is approximately 8 nautical miles from Brighton Marina at the closest point.

During the construction, we will be running trips for small groups to get a close up view of the project.

Great footage of dolphins off Seaford. They did not come this close to us today.

I am often asked about the noise of the turbines turning, They are vitually silent, they say it is about as noisy as a dishwasher in the next room. It is about right just a gentle swish of the blades

User

Sometimes the wildlife on the trips out are memorable. Today I do not think there could have been one gull in Brighton as they were all here. Add to this dolphins were again sighted on the return trip this morning

1 Year ago. Things have really changed on the windfarm This phot shows Pacific Orca next to the sunstation. Fugro Saltire or Symphony laying the inter array cables. Bare foundations for turbines and MPI Discovery or MPI Adventure fitting a blade to a newly installed turbine tower and nacelle.

A relaxed trip from Brighton Marina to the Beachy Head lighthouse and back. On the way seeing the Seven Sisters Country Park from the sea. Spaces are limited and cost £40 per person. For more details email Paul at brightonboat.co.uk

Rampion have taken to the skies for the next job on the windfarm. This helicopter is photographing every single blade in detail on all 116 turbines. Only 4 turbines can be done on each trip and the information is used to identify damage to the turbines.

User

During the construction of the windfarm there has been restrictions on diving in and near the windfarm. Nice to have a mention now we are back diving close by with the restrictions lifted.

User

I think we under-estimate the value of having the windfarm boats around as this shows.
Rampion has assisted the Coastguard on several incidents.

Stuck to get something for the Dad who has everything?
How about a voucher for a trip to the wind farm

User

Workforce on Rampion are so friendly, giving us a wave as we go by

User

I am sure that the people at Rampion are breathing a sigh of relief that this find was not recent. Still more interesting history unearthed by the project.

We went out on a trip with Defiance back in January to visit the wind farm. It was incredibly informative and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it to anyone, and such excellent value for money! I can't wait to go again soon now some of the turbines are up.

User

We had the best day out with Paul and his partner. They were both knowledgable, engaging and good fun! We even saw a dolphin! Thank you both for a lovely day!

We had a great trip out to the wind farm on Sunday. It was wonderful to get up close to the wind farm. Paul is friendly and really knows his stuff. We sailed all through the wind turbines and were amazed by the sheer size of them. The trip is great value for money and on a chilly day, the tea, coffee and biscuits was a lovely and welcome touch. I would recommend it to anyone.

We had a great day out last weekend. The weather was excellent and the sea was calm so the trip out was smooth. The area the wind farm covers is so huge that even when you are in the midst of it in the boat, you struggle to comprehend its vastness as it stretches out in all directions. The boat went as near as it safely could to one of the turbines and it just towered above us reminding us of the martians in War of the Worlds. Paul gave us commentary when appropriate but spent most of his time answering - superbly I might add- all of our many questions !

There is so much to see and be inspired about out there that we have already made a plan to go back.

Good work Paul and crew

We had a brilliant team afternoon out visiting Rampion with Paul. After a number of bad weather postponements, we got out on an amazing autumn day. Fantasic time and well worth a trip.

User

Our trip was booked for Saturday 26th August and the weather couldn't have been better. Having watched curiously from the shore it was fascinating to see the progress being made close up. Seeing all the boats involved in the process and the turbines is amazing. Worth every penny. A day to remember.

User

Our group had a great (even if somewhat foggy) day out at Rampion. The trip was a pleasant experience; with the knowledgeable Paul at the helm we cut through the mist safely and with grace!

Thanks for the day at sea, I recommend Defiance for the trip.

User

On a beautiful calm Spring afternoon the soft mists lifted as we sailed out to the farm; revealing fabulous views up close to soaring towers topped with gently rotating turbines.

A very pleasant, informal and comfortable tour hosted by a knowledgeable and friendly guide and pilot. I felt very safe and had a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

User

Informative afternoon out. Fascinating, fun, factual,

with informative natter, and tea and biscuits too. Rampton is a daunting installation. Recommended with gusto.

Hi Paul,

I’d just like to say that our boat trip on Defiance (Sunday 13th Aug) to see the Rampion Windfarm in its final stages of construction was even better than I expected – I have to say we were lucky to get perfect weather, which helped – got some spectacular photos of the gigantic machines and the ships on stilts. I had no idea of the way the ships raise out of the water on stilts to enable the cranes to work. You have to visit the site to get a proper idea of the massive scale of the project – as a former engineer I found it all fascinating, and in any case it is always fun to go to sea on a boat like yours. Your boat was the perfect way to see everything and being only 9 guests on board it was great to be able to speak to you about the details. Thank you for taking the time to slowly navigate between the turbines so that we could get a good look and absorb everything. I have already recommended the trip to others.

Good luck

Had the best time being taken for a tour around the Rampion project. Paul and Sharon looked after our group really well and were really knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

User

Great trip out to see the wind farm being slowly built

User

Great trip out 2nd June, highly recommend, wonderfully atmospheric to see the turbines loom out of the sea fog which soon lifted into a beautiful sunny day.made extra special by having a dolphin swim alongside.

User

Great boat trip today - Paul & Sharon are so knowledgeable about the wind farm & happy to chat! Bit of a drama on the way back too, which was responded to with calm & a willingness to help, looking for a missing person reportedly in the sea who luckily was found safe & well.

User

An excellent half day out. Worth every penny.
