Roffey Karate Club

Great effort from everyone at the Kata Course this morning. I hope the warmups made you all think about speed, power and focus. We covered a lot of ground including Competition , judging and Team Kata. Good fun and interesting (I hope).

A chance to learn a new Kata and to improve and perfect the Kata you know.

A busy night at Roffey Karate Club. Kumite and Kata, focus and effort, so enjoyable and so satisfying.

Excellent classes again tonight. Thanks to all the students who trained. I always mean to get photos, but more often than not I get so involved with our training I forget. Another go at Tameshiwara breaking technique and I finally thought to get a photo. Loads of success for the students but a lot of pressure on Catherine with everyone watching. Two boards broken no problem.

Ending class with Tameshiwara. Breaking techniques. Special boards with varying resistance. This enables our young students to practice traditional Karate and have a bit of fun doing it. Great techniques from the girls.

Really enjoyable classes tonight. More Black Belts than usual which always adds to the dynamic of the class. Ending with Pinan Godan and Hannah receiving her 1st Kyu certificate ( next stop Black Belt). Thanks to Sensei Julie Elliott Sensei James Swaine and returning to the club Sensei Mike Plater for their contribution and to all the students for their effort and enthusiasm.

A very important Kata in our Wado Ryu Karate. Kushanku. And another thoroughly enjoyable Tuesday at Roffey Karate.

First Saturday class of 2019. Loads of students, loads of effort and loads of fun. Oh and of course some Kata

Grading Certificates awarded with suitable ceremony, respect and applause. The young students involved should be very proud.

Last training session of 2018. A great evening starting with a successful grading for 2 students who were unable to make it on Sunday, followed by a fun younger class and a really enjoyable senior class. Adela Pringle and Sensei Joanna were also rounding of the evening with a chat about becoming a Black Belt. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you all.

Really great Pre-grade course this morning. Every grade, and a wide range of ages. Such a fantastic effort from everyone. A real atmosphere of mutual support and total effort. Many thanks to Sensei Colin Jackson , as ever, for his invaluable assistance.

Finishing off Thursday’s classes with my little girl, Sensei Alicia Smith, practicing Kata Seishan. Very enjoyable and brought back lots of good memories.

A busy class this morning, a full range of grades and ages but all doing Pinan Nidan and trying hard to improve every aspect of the Kata and that’s all the instructors hope for. Well done all of you Don’t forget the pre-grade course 10am - 12pm Sunday 9th and grading on the 16th.

Enjoyable classes as always tonight. But sadly saying farewell to one of our students. Lauren Mayhew pictured dealing effectively (and painfully) with Sensei Phil’s attack is moving to Edinburgh to start a new job. We all wish her the very best and hope to see her occasionally in the future.

A great evening with Horsham ‘s St John Ambulance Cadets teaching them Self Defence with Sensei Alicia Smith. A great bunch of young people who threw themselves into the training and were a credit to themselves and their leaders. They’re involved in learning vital first aid skills and contribute so much to our community. Thanks Hannah Strange.
