Scots Guards Description
The Scots Guards are part of 12th Armoured Infantry Brigade. Although famous for its bearskins and scarlet tunics, they are only one part of the Regiment's day to day tasks. First and foremost Scots Guardsmen are Combat Infantry soldiers, trained and ready to deploy on operations at any time, anywhere in the world.
The Battalion is made up of three rifle companies, a support weapons company which includes Reconnaissance, Anti Tank, Mortar and Machine Gun Platoons, and a HQ company.
Life in the Battalion is varied and challenging. One day you could be driving across the plains of Alberta, Canada in a Mastiff, and the next you are packing your kit to go on an adventure training exercise in Nepal. The Battalion competes to a high standard in football and rugby, while many Guardsmen represent the Battalion in cross country, skiing and squash. There are more than 45 different sports on offer, and if you’re good enough you can play them right up to Army, or even national level.
F Company is a small independent branch of the Regiment which is based permanently in London. F Company provides Royal Guards to Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Tower of London.
You can expect a short tour in F Company on completion of training as a newly qualified combat infantryman. When not on royal duties providing the ‘shop window’ for the country, the Guardsmen of F Company can be found on exercise all over the world. Recent trips include Poland, Kazakhstan, Belize and Spain.
Scots Guardsmen are fiercely proud of their unbroken service and loyalty to Queen and country. They have a hard-won reputation as fighting soldiers. The Scots Guards have served on operations all over the world, but most recently in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Falkland Islands.

Over the last 24 months I have noticed more and more Ex-service personnel on the streets or just in a hard place in their lives. Whether this was in person or on the News, it became apparent that some unfortunate ex-service personnel genuinely struggle with life and decision making when they leave the forces. It got me thinking that firstly this could be me one day but also some people just need help integrating back in to society so that they have a fair shot at life post military.
Last year I came across a charity called ‘Hire a Hero’ and after doing a bit of research I found that this charity was perfect for everything that I had been thinking about. Hire a Hero is a charity that supports service leavers and veterans through the transition from military into civilian life. For many service leavers civilian life can be a confusing, chaotic place; the charity, through its network of businesses, mentors and volunteers provides a consistent source of support to service leavers.
So that’s it I’ve been telling myself for a while now that I will raise some money for this amazing charity. There has been a lot of delaying, but I’ve decided that at the end of my 6-month deployment in Cyprus I will be taking part in the 53 Km Akamas Blossom trail run around the Aphrodite’s hills.
Everyone that knows me will realise that running has never been my forte but it’s all for the cause. Anything that you could donate will be hugely appreciated to help this wonderful charity. All money raised will go towards, providing Career Coaches to assist service leavers and veterans, attending careers fairs, employment events, and engaging with service leavers and veterans across the UK.
I hope you can all help me reach my £1,000 target.

A day of sporting success for F Company Scots Guards. London Central Garrison held a Sports Day for Public Duties Incremental Companies and the Bands. F Company won overall top prize as with some great team performances coming 1st in the five-aside football, 1st in squash, runners up in the rowing.
