About Sibs - For Brothers And Sisters

Sibs is the only UK charity representing the needs of siblings of disabled children and adults www. sibs.org. uk

Sibs - For Brothers And Sisters Description

Siblings have a lifelong need for information, they often experience social and emotional isolation, and have to cope with difficult situations. They also want to have positive relationships with their disabled brothers and sisters and to be able to choose the role they play in future care.

There are over half a million young siblings and over a million adult siblings in the UK.

We support siblings of all ages who are growing up with or who have grown up with a brother or sister with any disability, long term chronic illness, or life limiting condition.

Dangerous Giant Animals is written and performed by adult sibling Christina Murdock. The show is based on her own experiences as a sibling. It’s a moving, funny, hard-hitting and very honest exploration of growing up as the sibling of someone with learning disability and challenging behaviour. If you are in or near Edinburgh this month we recommend going to see it https://www.scotsman.com/…/theatre-revi ew-dangerous-giant-a…

Read our CEO’s opinion piece today on the need for care providers to collaborate with adult siblings, and to recognise their experiences and expertise, in order to improve outcomes for their brothers and sisters with learning disabilities or autism https://www.theguardian.com/…/siblings- disabled-people-care…

Read this great article by writer Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett on being a young sibling carer for her autistic brother. So many siblings will relate to the responsibilities, worry about parent, the humour, the love, unpredictable behaviour, loss of sleep, & the skills, motivation and attitudes she has developed as a result of her experiences. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-448768 58

We wish them both the best of luck and hope to see them win. http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/…/16338060 .inspirational-wir…/…

Sibs on BBC South Today. We have been working to raise awareness of adult sibling carers during carers week. Listen to adult sibling Patricia talking about caring for her brother Chris who has autism. It highlights unconditional sibling love and the draining nature of caring. If you know any adult siblings (of people with learning disability or autism) in Berkshire, tell them about our support event on the 30th June in Reading. Available to view for the next 24 hours only. View at 9.57 minutes in. https://www.bbc.co.uk/…/b…/south-toda y-evening-news-13062018
