Went to the slug for lunch we had a wonderful experience the food was great and it was served by a lovely waitress (amazing make up so you know who I’m complementing)

I would recommend to anyone great value for money made even better by the lovely weather

User

Was in gunwharf. Wanted something to eat. Three of us had burger fries and a drink for £7. One was a pint and a wine. That’s a Bargain and service was ace. Much better than frankie and bennys. That’s a disgrace and feels dirty.

User

The staff at this place work, bloody hard , great venue, young lot running it but very professional well done !

User

Lovely food and great atmosphere could maybe do with A few more parasols thou as we where all baking I'm yesterday's heat

User

Been here a couple of times and have always had a great meal, as my cousin and I did yesterday. Food was excellent and staff were very helpful and polite. Sat outside upstairs and lovely weather made it all the better.

User

We were treated to a meal in the Slug & Lettuce by my brother & his wife. We only had to wait 15 mins to be seated which was good considering it was extremly busy leading upto christmas. We were shown to the bar to have drinks whilst we waited for the table. The service was good apart from waiting over half hour for desserts, but they were taken off the bill, which was kind of them. I had chicken wrapped in bacon, cheese & BBQ sauce, i only eat half as it was not all that good, chicken did not taste like chicken, the bacon was very fatty, couldnt see the cheese & bbq sauce was very little, the chips not that brilliant either. Will give them the benefit of the doubt as it was a busy time of the year & try them again another time. I liked the pub itself & the atmosphere.

User

Very busy but great venue to sit in the sun on a bank holiday. Nice food and good service.

User

Nice for a good drink good views could do with more umbrellas.

Always come for a drink here when in town

I was so upset tonight. I’ve returned to Portsmouth after living away for 20 years. I took my friend to have cocktails, but as she was unfamiliar with your offers she did not ask for her 241 deal. I went to the bar to query this and was met with complete ignorance and total unprofessionalism. Zero customer service and frankly rude and dismissive bar person. I won’t return. How sad to have to review so negatively.

User

Good coffee when we eventually got it - waited half an hour to be served, only two girls on, one taking the orders and one making the coffees and delivering to the outside tables, queue out of the door. Hope that they are staffed better over the bank holiday weekend but doubt it.

User

A group of us met to have drinks here. After waiting half an hour to be served, the man behind us in the queue approached a manageress (who was polishing glasses at 7pm on a Sat night) to complain about the slow service. Whilst still polishing glasses, she told him that all staff were working to supply the bar . . . The wait staff themselves were very polite and helpful, clearly the management needs work. I won't be returning in a hurry.

User

Worst place I have ever been. Strange queue system. Served Pimms cocktails in gin glasses with no fruit. Had to ask for it. Gin & tonic served with no ice or lemon in a dirty but warm glass. South African Chenin blanc was warm and served in gin glasses

User

Worst customer service. Stood in the queue for 20 minutes to order food to be served by the most miserable young woman in Portsmouth. We were then told we couldn’t have anything other than breakfasts till 12pm. It was 11.54 and we were told to go away and come back if we didn’t want to order breakfast as she wasn’t going to put our order through till 12. No signs saying only breakfast till 12 and when we asked if we could order drinks (there were 5 of us) to let the 6 minutes tick by then put the food through only to be told “no, it’s tough” is unacceptable. Disgusting.

User

Went to the bar yesterday and their soft drinks dispenser was broken so instead they were serving Diet Coke and Tesco’s lemonade out of two litre bottles. Got no discount for them serving it this way especially as the Tesco’s lemonade is 50p a bottle. £6.90 for two drinks. I questioned the bar staff and they didn’t give a toss so defiantly won’t be frequenting there anytime soon.

User

Rude, slow staff a very aggressive manager who made everyone feel uncomfortable. Filthy ladies toilets, had to vacate our table at 9 as we had teenagers with us so we were unable to have coffee or dessert. Over charged by £45 as the deposit was not taken off the bill. The slug and lettuce are a good brand but Michael O Mahony and his staff at Gunwharf are very poor ambassadors. They have no idea about customer service or cleanliness. The managing director of the pub chain which own The Slug and Lettuce has been informed as has environmental health.

User

My glass was so dirty it was disgusting. Food was poor my burger taste like to came out of a packet and was just warmed up. Lack of taste in everything, My mum paid £3.60 for a small cranberry juice! My large coke was cheaper than that. Would never eat here again or recommend to anyone.

User

Hideous experience this morning at the slug. We have family down and chose the slug to enjoy a brunch all together. Menu looked great but was actually really poor. My smashed avacado looked like it had been lobbed on the plate, my sons boiled egg and soldiers was served inedible and impossible to eat due to the dish it was served in. Flat coke and like warm coffee topped it off. I understand that mistakes can be made and would happily return if the customer service was up to scratch. Sadly in this case it was. At this point myself and my son had no food and the other party members had almost finished so we had to go off to burger King as my son was so hungry. The supervisor seemed to believe that spending £40 on a brunch in which we ended up eating separately at a different venue was not an issue. No refund was offered but she did refund the two meals we didn't get but only when asked and she told us that there had been 'kitchen issues'. Really poor show and ruined what should have been a lovely family meal.

Hi.

I went to the Slug and lettuce on Thursday with a friend. Ordered nachos to share. Very bland. I wanted steak for my main. The lady serving said they had no steak and was also having a kitchen inspection. So reluctantly ordered chicken pie with seasonal veg and mash potato.

The main took forever. Asked the lady why it was taking so long. She said again they where having a kitchen inspection. And would go and ask. Quite a bit later she came out with my main and not my friends. And she ordered salad.

My gravy was warm with a film on the top of it. My mash potato was instant mash as had powder on the top and flat. And the peas and carrots where cold. And obviously frozen veg as squeezed the carrots and lots of water drained from them. Asked to speak to the manager and she came back saying they where busy with the kitchen inspection and wouldn't come out to see me. She didn't charge me for the main meal I didn't eat.

Nice one.

I went inside with my food and asked to speak to a manager. One came out. Explained the poor service and food.

He said what can I do. Told him his chef is a embarrassment and to speak to him.

Very bad food and service.

User

Awful! We’ve been to other pubs in the same chain and never experienced anything like it, but then the food all over the floor and dirty sticky menus were probably a bit of a give away of the standards we could expect. After waiting 20minutes to be served you didn’t have what we wanted which was annoying but not the end of the world. Our food arrived quickly and my partner had one mouthful of vegetable linguini and said it was so disgusting she couldn’t eat it. I didn’t believe her (how can you cock up microwave food?) so had a big mouthful and to my surprise she was right it was absolutely gross. My chicken pie wasn’t much better in fact I think chicken pie is a bit of a misleading name what I got was 2 dry chicken breasts with a couple of spoonfuls of bland sauce and a piece of pastry on top. In fact the best part of the meal was the smash that accompanied it. It did say on the menu that it came with mash but what ended up on my plate definitely came out of a packet. Didn’t bother complaining because I didn’t have another 20 minutes to waste queueing up at the bar and I’m guessing any replacement wouldn’t have been much better. At least the wait staff were pleasant, it always adds to the experience when you have to ask for your filthy table to be cleaned before you eat your meal and are rewarded with a huff and a scowl.
