People sometimes tell me I'm "just a dog walker". People tell me to get a "proper job". I'll let you into a little secret- there is no such thing as "just a dog walker". Not if you find a good one. Your dog is not a commodity, a means to make money, a client base. They are part of my life, my heart, my family. I am their protector, their guardian, someone who is often their only human contact for up to 12 hours, and I take that very seriously. I cradle the sad, befriend the l...onely, feed the hungry, medicate the sick, wait for the elderly, soothe the anxious, monitor the dominant, protect the fearful, scan horizons and apologise for the reactives, raise the pups and carry the weak. When I am sick, i walk. When my bones are broken, i walk. I go out in snow, hail, pouring rain and searing sunshine. I spray frost from my windscreen and clear snow from my driveway, I zip coats up to my chin in the winter and find leafy paths with trickling streams when the sun finds it's power in the summer. I walk in the dark with flashing collars, beat rush hours and school jams to get to my precious cargo. When they join my family, my family joins them- beaming, I tell my husband about the adventures of the day, and tell my baby boy mythical tales of big fluffy shepherd woIves that will watch over him, lurchers who run so fast they take off, little terriers who guard pots of gold at the end of rainbows, knowing these gentle souls will teach him compassion as he grows. I sit at Easter, Christmas and bank holidays, wondering if they understand why we aren't together, worrying about them until I see them again. I know their quirks, I anticipate their reactions. They look upon me with a trust so pure it hurts a little. And i honor that trust fiercely. Not a proper job? I'll take that. And I'll continue in this improper job while I am granted the privilege to do so. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for it ❤❤❤

Today, like many days, we saw an elderly gentleman walking his elderly hound near the bottom of Frith Hill. As usual, I smiled, my heart did a happy little skip and i pondered on the human-canine relationship in it's many wonderful and diverse forms. It's one of those things, one of life's little treasures that is in front of you every single day but that you have to really open your eyes to see and appreciate. The elderly dog papa, growing old in tandem with his loyal friend... unflinching by his side. The "nanny dogs", both male and female, of all breeds, who cradle your children like eggshells and raise them with the protective zeal of a mother duck- you never leave them unsupervised but deep down you know this is for the safety of the dog rather than the child! The workmen with their best buddy in the passenger seat of their van, nose to the wind and ready for a day's graft (safety harness on, of course). The reactive dogs, who are rude, loud, boisterous and aggressive, but are our beating hearts that we guard with our lives because it is always for a good reason, and all too often the sign of a purely innocent soul trying to protect their broken hearts. The homeless and their dogs, gladly going hungry and cold as long as their best friend has a full tum and a warm nest beneath their protector's arms. The dog walker, her closest ally by her side through the harshest of storms, both physical and personal. The untireable pups, the naughty adolescents, the staunch adults, the loyal seniors. The pedigree, the rescue, the booming big and yappy small. The son, the daughter, the heart, the family. Our bond is unparalleled. And for the most precious of reasons ❤❤❤

Following today's Featured Dog posting and the introduction of the SniffieSnootz Moral of the Month, I thought I would take a retrospective look at our 2 past champions and go over what their moral teachings were, for all of you who thought they had been unfairly stripped of a snippet of their limelight (ok maybe that was just me 🤭) So without further ado......
Sir Sass (Featured Dog: March) MOTM; "It's never too late to change your actions and reactions, particularly if thi...s promotes added zen" 🙌
Barli Bear (Featured Dog: April) MOTM; "When life throws lemons at you, dig deep, find your inner wolfy warrior and remind life who calls the shots. Use lemons as tennis balls" 🙌
Dogs: Life's best teachers ❤❤❤

***SniffieSnootz FEATURED DOG: MAY***
Up on the pedestal this month is our Greek rescue cross-breed King Henry ❤ Henry came to us about 7 months ago with reactivity and socialisation issues, and after a few trial walks we picked up on some lead reactivity/ frustrated greeting problems. As an ex-street dog, Henry has trouble returning to the pack if left off-lead, and as is often the case, this creates a catch 22 situation if they are also lead reactive! However after some int...ensive socialisation and desensitisation training on his flexi-lead we are very proud to say that this particular social flower has bloomed, to such an extent that he travels nose-to-nose with his chums in the Snootmobile without so much as a grumble! We wouldn't change Henry for the world and those that know him well will always tell you: "There's just something about Henry!" Well done Hen!
*Seeing as every featured dog so far has taught us specific life lessons, we will also be adding the Featured Dog Moral of the Month from now on. Henrys moral? Respect the world around you, but never lose your attitude! 🙌😁

We have the best clients 😍 Massive thanks to Sassy's Mama Nina for Etta's amazing homemade snuffle mat (the SniffieSnootz Snuffle, anyone? 😁). 15 minutes in and she's showing no signs of sniff-abatement! Love our clients (their hoomans aren't too bad either 😜)
