About South Of England Agricultural Society

The South of England Agricultural Society celebrates farming, agriculture and the countryside through annual seasonal country shows and events

South Of England Agricultural Society Description

The South of England Agricultural Society is a registered charity that was founded in 1967 from a consolidation of agricultural societies that date back to the 1830s. The Society operates from the South of England Showground, a 150-acre site situated just outside Ardingly village in the heart of the West Sussex countryside.

Our aims and objectives are to promote agriculture and allied industries and to advance education in agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture and forestry

The Society organises and hosts shows and events that promote farming, agriculture and the countryside, including its flagship event, the South of England Show, which takes place in June each year.

The Society also delivers a wide range of educational events and services including conferences, seminars, school and college information days and competitions. It supports and sponsors educational projects, bursaries and awards and forges alliances with the European farming community through our International Farmlink scheme.

All our activities aim to celebrate, build awareness and develop understanding of the products that come from our land based and allied industries, and we always aims to use and support local suppliers.

The South of England Showground & Facilities is a major asset of the Society and is available for hire as a venue for large and small private and public events including conferences, exhibitions, shows, corporate events, training, product launches and special occasions. All profits from hire of the venue are donated to the Society to help fund our charitable projects.

The agricultural shows are so much fun. Food, crafts, farm animals and goods and then there is the unique furniture - what a great day out for the family. Even it is raining you get to shelter in the marquees and find amazing products. This year we are returning with HARLEQUIN chesterfield which hopefully will attract lots of interest. (Teme Valley Chesterfield) .

User

Need two days ! We didn't even stop for a meal this year and we still didn't get all the way round. We did however stay right to the end and watched the flag breaking ceremony. Darn good day. Even with the sunburn

User

Loved it, all good as always.

Except the stockmans dinner, showing livestock is hard and hungry work and that dinner was disappointing and meagre especially compared with years gone by.

But everything else excellent

User

I have been a member for several years and think it excellent value for the money ,three days with so much to share with family or friends .

User

Had a lovely day with my family once again, well done South of England Agricultural show , think it was the best yet.

User

Great to see shows evolving and the new initiatives on the show ground. Great venue and lovely shows.

User

Enjoyed the show today. Was really pleased not to see to many dogs being walked around in the heat. Good idea to put on the tickets to best leave dogs at home. More shows need to do this as far to many people take dogs to shows when it is far to hot. They are happier left at home. We have five and wouldn’t dream of taking ours. Well done.

Currently attending the Autumn Fair and Game Show at SEAS. The site is well laid out with plenty to do and see and something for all the family. Making scarecrows and other activities aimed at children are all included in the ticket price and as children under 16 go free, why wouldn't you want to turn up for a day out. Have a go at casting out for fly fishing, archery, clay pigeon shooting or just meander round the show ground at your own leisure.

The displays in the main arena were very entertaining and I particularly enjoyed the falconry and dog displays.

The highlight of the show for me was the falconry on horseback display by Jonathan Marshall which, for some reason, I found rather emotional.

User

wow how this show has grown its amazing but crammed into to small space I'm sure i would have brought much more if i could have seen the stalls properly get a bigger marquee.

Also although we got there just after 10am there was no availability to see father christmas until 1pm we had no intension on benign there that long, yes lots to see but not that much and in that crush not comfortable with small child.

User

Perfect venue for a concert. Well organised, plenty of parking which was reasonably priced at £10. The raised area around the arena was lined with benches which made a great vantage point if you're 'vertcally-challenged' 😀 - food and drink was a bit expensive but that's nothing new for large events. The one thing that could have been added was a shuttle-bus service from Haywards Heath station as it's quite difficult not to mention expensive to arrange cabs etc. On the whole a great night Little Mix was an ideal first outing for this venue ❤️

I went yesterday with my family and two grandsons. Had a great afternoon ,plenty to see and do. Bought some good merchandise from various stalls. The food area was varied and had something for everyone. We enjoyed pie mash peas and gravy, great value at £6:00 per head. My youngest daughter has a gluten free diet and was pleased to see they had gluten free for her, unfortunately she had sold out ,so it was good my daughter took her own sandwich in case there was nothing there for her She advised us she was the only stall offering gluten free and I would like that to be increased next year. There's obviously a demand as she sold out.

My eldest daughter new about booking for Santa from your website,Ive read other reviews of people complaining about not knowing about that,so perhaps you could have something posted at the entrance next year.

Lastly the entertainment in the food hall was good especially Fred Clark,he varied his songs and was great with the children that were near the front playing on the hay bales.

Will definitely go again next year.

4½ Stars. Fabulous day out. Strangely when I spoke with many of the retail stand holders they felt the show was not as a great success as either suggested by event organisers and/or previous years. Some mentioned expensive pitch prices meant they could not pass down savings to customers. I think £15 for a couple of lattes and 5 churros and £24 for 2 fish and chips in a box and £9 for a crepe and water is a tad steep...other than that a lovely day.

User

We have been members for many years but felt this year wasn't as good as previous years & very disappointing.Definitely not as much there this year & lots of the regular traders that have been supporting the show for many years to help make the show what it is were not there.

Tradestands are so expensive that regular traders & other ones have to seriously think if it is worth having a stand.

Grassmere need to be allowed to bring back there burger vans as the food is much better food & better value for money than the others that are there.

I went to the show on Saturday 30th September. I was extremely surprised to be greeted by a local Scout troop who were responsible for the parking of vehicles in such a busy car park. The weather had been poor and was improving but still far from nice.

Though they were all wearing hi-viz vests, they were all far too large for the child wearing it. I was directed to a row of vehicles by by small girl who was unsupervised and unsupported by an appropriately qualified adult. At a event such as this a professional traffic management company should've been involved from the planning stages to the end of the event.

I explained to the small Girl Scout that my vehicle was too large and heavy for where she was directing me to park and that I would be parking right at th back of the field where the ground was better. I received my blank stare gratefully and I parked as I indicated. I still need the tractor to help me at the end of the day.

Due to the large number of vehicle movements I would also have expected to see vehicle and pedestrian separation or demarcation.

I understand that a large portion of the Souts activity income would come from their activity at such events. However I would suggest that they were involved in more a supporting role rather than supervisory.

User

There was no sign posts to direct you around. No staff on hand to ask either and the only 2 we found were about as helpful as a bucket with holes in. Very few toilets. But the worst of all was one on the stall holders swore at my 13 year old autistic son and accused him of being a thief when he was showing my 9 year old autistic son his products.

Oh and the fair ground was extreamly over priced.
