Stonewall Park Cricket Club Description

We are Stonewall Park Cricket Club, a Cricket Club who are steeped in history; but as the game has evolved in recent years - we have too, where we have taken to the ever popular social media markets.

The club began over 150 years ago with the first record of a match being played on the present ground is in 1861 against Falconhurst when our club is titled Stonewall Club on the scorecard. The earliest appearance of our current name Stonewall Park Cricket Club is in 1864.

Stonewall Park House, which provides the backdrop to our wonderful ground, is a Georgian age house modified in Victorian times. It was at the date of this modification around 1860 that cricket transferred to the grounds of the present house.

The Fleming family who live in Stonewall Park House are both supporters and players of the club. Indeed Matthew Fleming, who captained Kent and played for England, quoted Stonewall Park as his favourite cricket ground.

Over the years, the ground and the pavilion has seen multiple changes; the original ground was very small and until 1964 the path from the pavilion to the cricket ground passed through a field.

In 1964 the current brick pavilion was built with the help of a grant from a local benefactor. At this time the playing area was extended to reach the pavilion. The pavilion was extended again in the early 1970s via a wooden addition with a flat roof.

The ground was extended again in the 1980s, which is why SPCC is one of a few grounds having a number of oak trees within the outfield; they were originally planted just beyond the boundary.

2011 saw a major extension to the pavilion facilities which has provided a more modern changing environment, and allowed the club to join the lKent Village Cricket Saturday League. We also celebrated 150 years of continuous cricket on our ground. We marked this achievement with a series of special matches and celebrations throughout the season.

We believe that Cricket is at the very heart of a village community and it is something that is very important to us at Stonewall Park. It is interesting and perhaps typical that some of the names on one of our early scorecards feature again from our present local community.

Last year brought a long awaited success for Stonewall Park, our first ever big trophy, as we became champions of the KVCL Division Five in only our second season in the league. This season we have done one better, picking up consecutive silverware as champions of Division Four for 2014, picking up more points than ever and winning a staggering 9 games in a row!

Our spiritual headquarters is The Rock Inn in Chiddingstone Hoath, our meeting place for committee meetings, post match drinks /discussions and the venue for our end of season dinners.

Through the use of our social media outlets in Twitter and this Facebook page, we endeavour to provide you with all the important information, such club news and match reports, keeping you updated with everything at SPCC.
