Stylorouge Description

This UK- based creative consultancy was founded in 1981 by creative director, Rob O’Connor, who studied Graphic Design both in Coventry and Brighton and began his design career in Brighton and then at Polydor Records in London. He has steered Stylorouge through various phases embracing design for print, web and multimedia, photography and video production. Predominantly an art director and film director, he has also been actively involved in the role of visiting lecturer and external assessor at Chelsea, Brighton and Camberwell Schools of Art. In 1997 he studied film direction with director Jim Pasternak and computer graphics at UCLA in Los Angeles. His passion for photography has led to regular commissions, in particular for artists such as Skin, Tara Blaise, Show Of Hands, The Cure, Kevin Mark Trail and the Ordinary Boys. Stylorouge also maintains its own library of images shot by its own designers.

Design and Art Direction. Memorable music packaging (sleeve designs) for artistes such as Paul McCartney, Blur, Tears For Fears, The Corrs, Van Morrison, Morrisey, Squeeze, Maxi Priest, Simple Minds, Alison Moyet, George Michael, Rolling Stones, Geri Halliwell, Katie Melua, Lighthouse Family, Crowded House, Soul II Soul, Enya, Morrissey, The Mystery Jets, The Subways and David Bowie.
They have established their own T Shirt range in Japan and Korea.
Stylorouge’s work has won numerous awards, and is frequently published in design books and magazines.
Stylorouge have also worked on various film, fashion, retail, merchandising, publishing and exhibition projects, as well as corporate identity.
Work for the film industry includes poster campaigns for HBO in New York. Packaging projects include 24 Seven bodysprays and fragrance packaging for Ted Baker. Fashion trade event Stitch Menswear has been branded by Stylorouge, and marketing campaigns for seasonal shows have been created for both Stitch Menswear and Pure London.

Film and Television. Rob O’Connor has directed promo videos for artists including Vangelis, Adiemus, Ronny Jordan, Sarah Brightman, Wild Ocean, Halo, All About Eve and Kula Shaker, and directed TV commercials for Universal, Decca, BMG and Sony Music and documentaries about Feeder, The Corrs, Enya and Kula Shaker which led to the commission by Channel 4 of the documentary Cowboys And Indians.
Live shows include David Gilmour and The Corrs. Their animated clip for classical crossover act ReMasterpiece was selected for screening at OneDotZero in 2005.

Web design and multimedia An important part of Stylorouge’s creative output. Numerous memorable sites in various areas including education, publishing and the public sector as well as in Music. Recent sites have been created for Chatto & Co, photographers Kevin Westenberg, Nels Israelson, Simon Fowler and Jeff Cottenden, musical artistes Sharon Corr, Skin, Robert Post, Sarah Brightman and The Brilliant Things. The subscription website for McFly was also designed by Stylorouge.
